Thirteen letters, 1957-1967 from Vernon Watkins to his wife, his mother and his sister, reflecting the poet's family and public life (ff. 1-25). Also included are 30 letters of the same nature, 1938-1967, addressed to Vernon Watkins from various correspondents, including poet Charles Causley, 1962-1967 (ff. 26-32), lifelong friend Eric V. Falk, [1938]-1963 (ff. 35-47), and wife, Gwen, 1945-1947 (ff. 59-66). The correspondence includes a photograph of Vernon, Gwen and Rhiannon Watkins, [1945] (f. 65).
The file also includes 34 letters and cards, 1965 and 1967-2004, addressed to Gwen Watkins from various correspondents, including Roy Fuller, 1976 (f. 74), Michael Hamburger, 1972-2004 (ff. 75-78), John Heath-Stubbs, 1998 (f. 79), Andrew Motion, 1987 (f. 81), Leslie Norris, 1974-1980 (ff. 82-86), Peter Redgrove, 1977 (f. 88), and David Wright, 1971-1988 (ff. 101-106). Most of these letters relate to Vernon Watkins's poetry.

Eleven letters, 1991-2002, from Kyffin Williams, Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, Anglesey, to his friends and near neighbours the broadcaster Ian Skidmore and his wife, the writer Celia Lucas, mainly offering thanks or congratulations, with most containing pen and ink self-portrait cartoons.
The correspondence includes four letters addressed to Celia Lucas (ff. 2-4, 10, the first two in French), three to Ian Skidmore (ff. 1, 9, 11) and two addressed to both (ff. 6, 8); together with a poem concerning the writer and critic A. A. Gill (f. 7) and a limerick addressed to Skidmore (f. 11). The cartoons portray Kyffin in a dunce cap (f. 1), as a Frenchman (f. 2 verso), as a 'naughty little boy' (f. 4 verso), celebrating (f. 5), with an ear trumpet (f. 6 verso), as [?'a fox-hunting man'] (f. 8), dancing with Ian Skidmore (f. 9) and waving a handkerchief (f. 10). There are also cartoons of A. A. Gill being grilled by Old Nick (f. 7) and Ian Skidmore waving a flag (f. 11).

The fonds comprises papers accumulated by Bert Pearce including the minutes and papers of the Communist Party Great Britain, 1921-1998, Communist Party Wales, 1884-2002, and the Democratic Left, 1978-1999. Also included are papers relating to elections, devolution in Wales and Scotland, industry, miners strikes, anti-apartheid, international affairs, peace movement, Peoples March for Jobs, and the poll tax campaign. The accumulated papers reflect Bert Pearce's life work for the Communist Party in Birmingham and Wales, as well as the active part he played in the campaigns listed above. The archive does not contain personal material.
