The series comprises notebooks kept by O. M. Edwards as Chief Inspector of Schools in Wales, 1907-1920, recording details of his visits to Welsh schools: classes, teachers, notes on individual subjects taught, and premises and equipment. There are also some general observations and recommendations.

Letters from Ellen Edwards to O. M. Edwards

The series contains personal letters written from the Edwards family's various local homes at Llanuwchllyn, giving family, domestic and local news, and also referring to national events, and to O.M. Edwards's wide-ranging activities and pursuits. Many of the letters refer to the activities of the children Ifan and Haf, and to other members of their families. The tensions and problems within the marriage are ever close to the surface because of the long enforced absences, but there is also clear evidence of a deep bond and affection between husband and wife.

O.M. Edwards: letters to his wife Ellen Edwards

The series comprises personal letters written from Oxford, Cardiff, London and other places discussing his career and professional activities, as well as illuminating the complex relationship, full of tensions and problems, between husband and wife. The letters also refer to many members of the family and to a host of prominent contemporary figures, amongst them Sir Edward Anwyl, Thomas Edward Ellis, Sir John Morris-Jones, Sir John Rhys and Daniel Lleufer Thomas. There are many references to Llanuwchllyn and Penllyn more generally and to O. M. Edwards's wide-ranging services to Wales, including his editorship of a number of journals and his work as Chief Inspector of Schools in Wales after 1907.

O.M. Edwards: letters to his children Ifan and Haf

The series comprises letters written mainly from the Board of Education offices at Whitehall, the family home at Neuadd Wen, Llanuwchllyn, and various locations which O.M. Edwards visited whilst Chief Inspector of Schools in Wales to his son Ifan ab Owen Edwards and daughter Haf Edwards. They contain family and domestic news, advice, and some of the letters include vivid descriptions of events in London and Llanuwchllyn.

O.M. Edwards: letterbook

The series comprises a letterbook containing copies of letters written by O.M. Edwards to various members of his family including his parents and brothers. They were all written whilst he was a student at Aberystwyth. Some of the letters are lengthy and describe in detail events at the college and locally at Aberystwyth. They also contain references to Llanuwchllyn and to members of the Edwards family.

The series contains letters with a mixture of personal and professional news. Many of the letters refer to matters relating to the University of Wales and the individual colleges: academic matters, research, appointments and buildings. There are also numerous references to developments in secondary education in Wales and to relations between the schools and the university. Some of the letters arrange meetings with O. M. Edwards. The series comprises letters addressed to O. M. Edwards as Chief Inspector of Schools in Wales, drafts and copies of some letters despatched by him, together with other related papers. There are many letters from prominent Welsh figures. Most of the early letters relate to the establishment of the Welsh Department of the Board of Education. Most letters relate to inspections of individual schools, the policies and activities of the Board of Education at Whitehall, local education authorities, the appointment of teachers, and the teaching of individual subjects.

The series comprises notebooks kept by O. M. Edwards recording details of circulation figures for Cymru and Cymru'r Plant, sales of volumes produced by ab Owen Publishers; lists of subscribers to Clasuron Cymru, reference works, volumes on Welsh history, journals, Hwiangerddi Cymru, and Cyfres y Fil.

Letters from Haf Edwards

The series comprises letters to her father O.M. Edwards as he travelled around Wales in his capacity as Chief Inspector of Schools in Wales, giving domestic and local news, and news about her brother Ifan and other members of the family. Most of the letters to her mother Ellen and brother Ifan are written from Dr Williams' School, Dolgellau, describing family news and her activities.
