Tails East, Heads West

Tails East, Heads West, a performance combining dance, music, word and image, was inspired by Jessica Cohen's study of t'ai chi ch'uan in Taiwan in 1984. Items comprise printed theatre programmes and flyers; press notices; printed arts magazines; and reviews.

Earthfall

Material relating to the first production to be staged by Jessica Cohen, Jim Ennis and their colleagues in the spring of 1989. Earthfall incorporated dance, martial arts and film media and its success prompted Cohen and Ennis to found the company named after their debut show. Items comprise printed theatre programmes; printed performance ticket; creative notes; overview of show, with cast biographies; and reviews.

Orchid Flower Blanch

Material relating to Earthfall co-founder Jessica Cohen's second solo work, Orchid Flower Blanch. Items comprise printed theatre programmes and flyers; printed booklets containing poetry in Mandarin with English translation; reviews; and postcards showing still photograph of Jessica Cohen.

Hodē Galatan

Material relating to Hodē Galatan, a multi-media production which combined ancient Greek song with contemporary images and movement in depicting a narrative of love and war. The show, premiered in Wales in 2003, was the product of a collaboration between Earthfall and Polish performance company Chorea which began a long-standing partnership between the two groups. Items comprise printed theatre programme and flyer; stage notes/directions; and creative notes.

Bakkus

Bakkus, an exploration of fanaticism and cultism, was Earthfall's third collaboration with Poland's Chorea theatre company and toured in both Wales and Poland. The production drew mainly from Euripides' The Bacchae and incorporated choral music derived from traditional and ancient sources. Items comprise printed theatre programmes, booklets and flyers; creative notes and notes on Euripides' Bacchae; song lyrics; and credit listing.

Correspondence

Letters, emails and postcards of appreciation, 1990-2007 + n.d., to Earthfall from audience members from Britain and Europe; and letters, 1997-2005 + n.d., to Earthfall from more official sources, including Glenys Kinnock, MEP and Taliesin Arts Centre, University of Wales, Swansea.

Gravitas

Material relating to Gravitas, a multi-media performance of dance, film, text and live music set against a backdrop of urban dereliction. Items comprise printed theatre programmes, flyers and posters; details relating to film accompanying production entitled Gravitas - Postcards; printed invitations to reception and showing of Gravitas - Postcards; copy of Golwg magazine; creative notes; audience feedback; and reviews.

Gig

Produced in 2009/10, Gig chronicles the turbulent events in the life of a rock band, incorporating dance, live music and film. Items comprise printed theatre programmes, tour programme and flyers; creative notes and stage notes/directions; and musical score.

The Factory

Influenced by the underground arts scene of late 1950s/1960s New York City, The Factory utilised a multi-media approach of dance, image, film and live music. The production was premiered in 2010. Items comprise printed arts programmes and flyers; stage design notes and creative/background notes; and previews and reviews.

Workshops and residencies
