The series contains a variety of poetry and prose works composed at various times during Maurice James's lifetime.

The file consists of an envelope containing material composed during Maurice James's college days. As well as several poems (including 'Forces' dated March 1938), there is a typed document in German entitled 'Wunder des Lebens' and an essay entitled 'The psychological interest in the poetry of Samuel Taylor Coleridge'.

The file contains testimonials from former school teachers and college lecturers and from acquaintances in Italy. There are also two newspaper cuttings relating to the Bellomo trial, 1945.

The series consists of notebooks used by Maurice James mainly as scrapbooks and diaries, 1937-[c. 1945]. The diary sections record, amongst other things, his reminiscences of Italy in 1937, his stay in Colwyn Bay while in the Royal Corps of Signals, 1941, and the sea voyage to Algiers in 1943. Numerous poems written by him are included as are copies of various letters sent by him. In addition, the volumes have numerous insertions. These include various letters, mainly relating to the period of his military service, as well as several military documents, 1940-1947. There are also some examples of poetry and prose inserted. A few items date from 1955 to 1956.

The series contains Maurice James's postgraduate work at the University of Wales Aberystwyth, including material relating to his Teacher's Diploma (1938-1939), his thesis, 1939-1940 and 1946-1948, as well as details of his extracurricular activities.
