Manuscript notebook, [?1818], containing copies of prose and poetry by Ann of Swansea (Ann Julia Hatton) connected with her novel Chronicles of an Illustrious House (London, 1816) which caused controversy for satirising Swansea polite society as the fictional 'Gooselake'.
Included are extracts from the novel, specifically sections relating to Gooselake, beginning at vol. 2, p. 74 (ff. 1-18 verso), dated 5 July 1818 (f. 18 verso); two poems responding to the furore surrounding the novel, the first addressed 'To the Great Dons of Swansea' (ff. 19-20), the second beginning 'Arms, Arms I sing! and many battles dire' (ff. 20 verso-26); 'Elegy on the Death of Mr Bamboo', dated January 1817 (ff. 26 verso-28 verso), and a single verse beginning 'Now lost in dust is Cambria's boast', dated 1816 (f. 29). A leaf identifying some characters from the novel with their real-life counterparts has been tipped in on f. i; this suggests that the unknown compiler of the volume had a close connection with Swansea.

Papers, 1839-1931, relating to the Naylor family and the Leighton Hall and Brynllywarch estates, comprising accounts, rent schedules, valuations and sale catalogues, together with correspondence and other material relating to the family, and in particular to their activities as high sheriffs for Montgomeryshire.

Additional papers were received in July 2021, this material mainly comprising correspondence and newspaper cuttings, which trace the history of and events within the Naylor family and the Leighton Hall estate from the mid-nineteenth century to the near present day. The material includes a memorandum book, 1848-1856, belonging to John Naylor (1813-1889) of Leighton Hall.

Deeds and documents, 1719-1855, relating mainly to the Peniarth estate in Merionethshire and Caernarfonshire, mainly leases, bonds and mortgages, 1728-1767.

Records of Messrs David and David, comprising records of valuations of properties in South Wales and the adjoining counties of England made during the period 1846-1933, including Breconshire, 1872-1912; Carmarthenshire, 1865-1884; Glamorgan, 1846-1926; Monmouthshire, 1867-1933; Gloucestershire, 1875-1880; Herefordshire, 1874-1881; and Somerset, 1876-1885. The records include surveys, reports, valuations, correspondence, notes, plans, valuation schedules, sale notices and copy agreements. Many of the records reflect the industrial and urban development of South Wales and quite a number of the individual valuations are of land subject to compulsory purchase by railway companies and public utilities.

Parry Hughes, 1918-36; typescript evidence prepared for the Merioneth Gold Mining Inquiry, 1930, and a report of the proceedings; memoranda relating to the formation and development of the Merioneth Mining Development Committee, 1930; copies of printed reports by Professor Henry Louis on the possibilities of gold mining in Merioneth, 1930; notes on diamond drilling and its possibilities in Merionethshire; together with a few printed items, two photographs, press cuttings and miscellanea.
