Letters (7), [c. 1942]-1944, to J. Lloyd Williams, relating to Edward Jones ('Bardd y Brenin'), including one from Iorwerth C. Peate relating to one of Edward Jones's triple harps. Notes and quotations are also included.

Welsh Music

Incomplete outlines of four series of lectures delivered by J. Lloyd Williams to classes at Aberystwyth, 1929, Bala, 1928-1929, Blaenau Ffestiniog, 1927-1928, and Trawsfynydd, 1928-1929. The topics include the history of Welsh music, congregational singing and folk singing. Two short essays by a member of the Trawsfynydd class, 1927, relating to the gypsies of Llangwm, are also included.

Lecture notes on John Parry ('Bardd Alaw'), delivered in April 1920; together with lecture notes on Joseph Parry delivered at Holywell, November 1941.

Welsh folk songs

Lecture notes relating to Welsh folk songs and folk tunes, including two series delivered at Bangor, 1934 and 1935, Coedpoeth, 1937, Llangefni, 1940, and a lecture entitled 'Neilltuolion Alawon Gwerin Cymru', undated but apparently delivered at Cardiff.

Congregational singing

A typescript copy of a lecture entitled 'Congregational singing in Nonconformist Wales', delivered by J. Lloyd Williams at Harlech in August 1941; an exercise book containing an address/lecture entitled 'Caniadaeth y Cysegr'; manuscript notes of a lecture on the same topic delivered at Trawsfynydd in 1929, Treherbert, 1940 and Ystradgynlais, 1941; notes of lectures relating to hymn tunes given in 1938 and 1942; and preparatory notes for the president's address at a singing festival in Aberystwyth, April 1917.

'Hwyl'

Notes of a lecture relating to the Welsh 'Hwyl', delivered at Denbigh, 1934; another recorded in Dr Walford Davies's musical 'At Home' programme; and a lecture entitled 'Pregethwyr a'u Lleisio', delivered at Bala, December 1922. Preparatory notes and other related papers include comments on the characteristics of contemporary Welsh preachers.
