The file comprises manuscript drafts of 'The Book of Balaam's Ass' of the passage 'On the Dux Pacis--- yn y Caregl Rhagorol' (see The Sleeping Lord and other fragments, pp. 108-9).

Manuscript

The file comprises three manuscript pages, one entitled 'The Dream of Pte Crixus', and the galley proofs of Poetry, Volume XCVII, Number 4, January 1961 which includes 'The Tutelar of the Place'.

Galley proofs

The file comprises galley proofs (uncorrected) of 'The Tutelar of the Place', 'A, a, a, Domine Deus' and 'The Wall'. There is no clear indication as to the identity of the publication in which this material was to appear.

Introduction

The series contains a manuscript draft of the introduction by Harman Grisewood, with notes on the contents of the volume for Fabers and an early typescript list of contents with seventeen pieces.

In illo tempore

The series comprises manuscript and typescript drafts of various autobiographical writings, collected together by Harman Grisewood while preparing the article published as 'In illo tempore'.

'Crucifixus etiam...'

The file contains a manuscript draft of an autobiographical piece, relating to David Jones's childhood beliefs, entitled 'Crucifixis etiam pro nobis: sub Pontio Pilatus passus', with also an inscription 'Bonum et ens convertuntur'.

Manuscript

The file comprises a complete manuscript for typing with numerous marginal notes and drawings on the reverse side of the paper. There is also a note from David Jones to Anna Kallin of the Third Programme, 17 February 1959.

Art in relation to war

The series comprises a typescript draft entitled 'Art in relation to war and our present situation', dated 'c. 1942' by David Jones on the first page, and dated '1942-3, 1946' in The Dying Gaul.

Manuscript

The file comprises manuscript drafts of 'An Introduction to The Rime of the Ancient Mariner' (numerous drafts, but none of the beginning of the work).

The Roman Quarry

The group contains manuscript and typescript drafts of most of the poems which appear in the volume with also some material which was unused.
The Roman Quarry and other sequences was edited by Harman Grisewood and René Hague, and first published by Agenda Editions in 1981. (See the foreword and introduction for information on how the material was selected from the archive for publication in this volume.) The volume is made up of some unpublished poetry, but also poetry which may have been part of The Anathemata (1952), The Sleeping Lord (1974), The Kensington Mass (1975) or The Narrows (1981). Most of the papers are from Group B.
