Lists of Plas Power title documents,

Lists of deeds, leases and other documents, including: abstract of William Lloyd's title to lands in Montgomeryshire; abstracts of John Ellice's and Robert Ellice's titles, including that of Marchwiel; abstract of Edward Parry's title; a list of maps and leases; and abstract of the title of Hafodybwch.

Memoranda,

Memoranda relating to a wide variety of estate business, particularly relating to agreements, tenancies, rents, legacies and debts, and also including agricultural and maintenance accounts and tenants' petitions; the context in which these documents were found suggests that many of them were originally created for estate purposes and subsequently brought together as a consequence of being used for the purposes of evidence and record during numerous legal proceedings, while others were drawn up by lawyers during cases.

Letters,

Letters, including copies and drafts of letters, to members of the Lloyd and Myddelton families and households at or concerning both Plas Power and Chirk, together with some addressed to members of the Fownes family, relating to administrative, legal and financial estate and household business, as well as family and personal matters, with occasional references to politics. While the relationship of some recipients to either Plas Power or Chirk is clear, there are many cases where it is complicated or unclear. From 1720, Plas Power was rented by Rev. Thomas Lloyd, who was the sitting tenant there until his death in the following year. Meanwhile, Mary Myddelton left Chirk Castle in 1719 and rented Croes Newydd, where she lived for the rest of her life, despite purchasing Plas Power in 1733. In 1734, Thomas Lloyd was succeeded as the tenant at Plas Power by his son, William, to whom Mary Myddelton bequeathed the estate on her death in 1747.

Letters to Mary Myddelton at Croes Newydd,

Letters to Mary Myddelton at Croes Newydd, mostly relating to household, estate, personal and social matters, and also including a few letters from Jo[hn] Myddelton relating to election prospects with regard to the Denbigh county and borough seats, 1727; as well as a considerable number of letters from [Judge] Ro[bert] Price, London, containing references to notable events and people, amongst which are: the death of [Joseph] Addison, 1719; the South Sea Company's affairs, 1720-1722; the attainder of [Christopher] Layer, 1722; Jonathan Swift, 1724; parliament's action in depriving the Montgomery outboroughs of the right to participate in the election of a member of parliament, 1728; an incident relating to the Duchess of Queenborough and the 'new Beggar's Opera', 1729; and parliamentary news, including ministerial changes and references to Lord Sunderland and Sir Robert Walpole. Mary Myddelton rented Croes Newydd in 1719, and remained there for the rest of her life.

Letters to Sir Richard Myddelton,

Letters to Sir Richard Myddelton at Chirk, mostly relating to estate and personal matters, and also including letters from: Geo[rge] Bennet concerning his part in a battle against the French, 1709; Sir Henry Bunbury concerning the parliamentary election at Weymouth, 1711; Ro[bert] Harley concerning the vacancy in the see of Bath and Wells, 1703; John Meredith concerning rebels imprisoned after the 1715 rebellion; J. Robinson concerning the future of 'The Society of Merchant Adventurers of England established at Hamburgh', 1697/8; H[enry] Sacheverell concerning parliamentary and political news, 1710; Sir Will[iam] Whitmore concerning election prospects with regard to the county and borough seats in Shropshire, 1695; and Sir W. Williams concerning election feelers in Denbighshire, 1706/7.

Letters to 'Madam',

Letters addressed simply to 'Madam', all of which appear to have been intended for members of the Myddelton and Lloyd families and their associates. Many of them were meant for Mary Myddelton, but others were clearly not, and in most cases it is not clear which are which, even when annotated in Mary Myddelton's own hand (which sometimes appears on letters addressed to people other than herself); some letters are from Mary Myddelton herself; others mention her in the third person or date from after her death; and others are copies or drafts written on a sheet of paper from a previous letter, so that the real intended addressee is not always the apparent one.
