School History

History of the school which gives a timeline for education for the deaf in Wales, the background to the establishment of the school at Llandrindod Wells, and the development of the school building and interior spaces in relation to the wider provision of education for the deaf. The document also lists school clubs and activities, and details of the classes provided.

Records of the School, 1950-1975, and of TG Richards, Headmaster 1965-1973. The records comprise a school log book, 1950-1969; a pupils' leaving book, 1957-1968; newspaper cuttings, [1965x1975]; notes compiled by the donor about his father, TG Richards, [2016]; photocopy of a short history of the School, written in 1967; and a CD containing scenes of school events and activities, compiled from 8mm cine film taken by TG Richards in the 1960s.

Pupils’ leaving book

Volume containing entries dated 18 December 1956 – January 1968 which give details of each pupil including birth dates, school admission dates, leaving dates and current address. Most entries also include a small photograph of the pupil, and details (if known) of post-school employment. May also contain letters from parents.

School log book

Volume containing entries dated 17 October 1950 – 19 February 1969. Includes information about the opening of the school, official visitors, student activities (trips, rehearsals, sports, exams, holidays), notes of medical examinations or treatment for students, staffing arrangements, student and staff illnesses and absences, governors’ meetings and other council and staff meetings, meetings with parents, and matters of general school administration.
