The papers of Sir John Morris-Jones consist mostly of correspondence. There are over 600 letters addressed to John Morris-Jones from men of letters and Celtic scholars from Wales and further afield including Dr Gwenogfryn Evans, Sir John Rhys and Sir Owen Edwards (Reference numbers 3245-3250, 32496). This collection consists of war diaries, 1916-1918, of the 14th (Service Battalion), Royal Welsh Fusiliers. The diaries, with some entries written in the hand of Major Wynn Wheldon, give a day-to-day chronicle of the activities of the battalion on the Western Front including reports on operations and actions, particulars of casualties, etc.

The letter provides a poet's view of the life 'behind the line' and yet heroically does not reveal the actual horrors of the trenches, but focuses on the few small moments of beauty that the poet finds to contemplate and share with the reader.

Recruiting poster entitled ‘Y Darn Papur’ is a Welsh version of the famous ‘The Scrap of Paper.’ History of the poster included on wrapping, which reads as follows: Gift of R. H. D. who initiated it and had it produced as Clerk to the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee (R. Humphrey Davies, Museum of Welsh Antiquities, UCNW).
