A volume entitled 'Cyfrol V. Nodion Cyffredinol', covering the period January-27 September 1928. The entries relate to domestic and international politics, Welsh orthography, the death of Thomas Hardy and of Herbert Henry Asquith, 1st Earl of Oxford and Asquith, emigration to Australia, the National Eisteddfod held at Treorchy, reminiscences of persons who played a prominent part in the public life of Llanelly, etc.

Miscellaneous papers and a ? note-book of Edward Williams ('Iolo Morganwg') bound together in one volume. The contents include pp. 28-62, an essay or article entitled 'Some Account of an Ancient Welsh Colony in America' containing an introductory section on the discovery of America by the Welsh prince, Madog, in the late twelfth century, and copious evidence collected by the writer from oral, manuscript, and printed sources concerning the existence in North America of 'Welsh Indians' who spoke the Welsh language (for Edward Williams's interest in Madog and the 'Welsh Indians' see David Williams: 'John Evans's Strange Journey', The American Historical Review, vol. LIV, Nos. 2-3, and The Transactions of the Honourable Society of Cymmrodorion, 1948, pp. 105-46, and Richard Deacon: Madoc and the Discovery of America . . . Glam. 1820', drawn on the blank verso of a folded copy of a printed election pamphlet containing a letter, 7 March 1820, from 'Rhys ap Thomas' to Sir Christopher Cole, one of the candidates in the parliamentary election for the Glamorgan county seat. Also included are miscellaneous lists of Welsh words and other miscellanea, these in some instances being written on the blank verso or in the margins, etc., of copies of printed proposals for publishing Edward Williams's volumes of English verse Poems Lyric and Pastoral, copies of a printed circular dated 16 August 1820 in which Taliesin Williams appealed to Unitarian ministers to contribute towards the fund for completing the erection of a Unitarian chapel in Merthyr Tydfil, an autograph letter from Messrs. Johnson, Prichard, and Johnson, Bristol, to Mr. Hopkins, Bridgend, 1815 (a business appointment), and a transcript (probably not in the hand of Edward Williams) of an English poem by ? Thomas Redwood.

Welsh emigrants in Africa and South America,

Letters to Daniel Lleufer Thomas, 1894-1896, and other papers relating to Welsh emigrants who formed part of the Albany Settlement near Cradock, Cape Colony in 1820, also papers relating to a Welsh settlement in Brazil, together with a copy of A Sketch of the Public Career of Col. A notebook used by Joseph Jenkins to chronicle his journey from Trecefel, Tregaron, December 1868, to Liverpool, and from Liverpool to Melbourne, Australia, March 1869, on board the SS Eurynome, including his observations on the sailing conditions, many poems inspired by his experiences at sea, and his early impressions of his adopted country .

Ceir nodiadau ynglŷn â Phatagonia mewn Sbaeneg, a hynnu mewn llaw wahanol, ar f. 4 (testun â'i wyneb i waered). = The diaries comprise an account, [2]-5 December 1889, of a trip on board a steamship to the regional capital, Concepción, to meet with the immigration supervisor (ff. 1-3 verso, 4 verso), and a diary detailing everyday life on the family farm at Nueva Imperial, 17 August-16 October 1891 (ff. 5-16 verso). English translations of the diaries (f. 11 recto-verso excepted) can be found in Huw Watkin Williams, The Watkin Path to Patagonia (Neath, 2006), pp. 97-101, 105-119. There are also notes on Patagonia in Spanish, and in a different hand, on f. 4 (inverted text).
