Order Viscount Clive to the magistrates of Newtown that the infantry stationed in the town be not quartered in bodies of less than from thirty- five to forty.

Carbon copy letter from Viscount Clive from Welsh Pool, to Lord John Russell. In consequence of arrangements with Lt Col Wynn, has caused the South Salopian Yeomanry Cavalry to march towards Welsh Pool on their return to Shrewsbury. Encloses copies of Nos MB1/124, MB2/137-9,MB2/142. Will dismiss his troops tomorrow.

His corps has left Newtown and is en route to Welsh Pool. Encloses copies of Nos MB1/124, MB2/137-9.

Directs that the pensioners be allowed to return to Welsh Pool, where they will surrender their arms. The l2th Regiment is on its march from Aberystwyth.

Has written to Major Harrison directing that the Montgomeryshire Militia and the pensioners be transferred to Welsh Pool and there dismissed. Thinks it desirable that a sentry box be made for the guards of the gaol, as a precaution against any attempt to rescue the prisoners.

Encloses an extract from No. MB1/129, the reward for Ingram's arrest, and also the lenient treatment of those who shall have surrendered their arms.

Has been informed that Lord John Russell has dispensed with the inspection of his corps. The conduct of his men during the disturbances in Montgomeryshire has been most exemplary.

Must not leave the county without expressing thanks for his valuable assistance in the 'unfortunate business'.

Ingram has been captured by one Samuel Pugh, who is presumably entitled to the £50 reward. Thomas Powell has been remanded, but the evidence against him is sufficient to ensure a committal. Was afraid that Mr Robert Temple might be opposed to a committal, and therefore gave him a retainer against Powell. A large number of the working classes around Newtown have come to realise the folly of their ways.

The South Salopian Yeomanry Cavalry have returned to their quarters at Shrewsbury, as well as the pensioners and the staff of the Shropshire Militia. His deepest gratitude is due to Capt. Mortimer and Paymaster Boyce, both of the Shropshire Militia, and Lt Edwards of the W. E. India Company's Native Cavalry.

Thanks him for his report on the state of affairs in Montgomeryshire. Approves of his suggestion that the 14th Regt move to Brecon, and has conveyed the same to Lord Hill.

Expresses appreciation of his assistance in the 'harassing service' in which he has been lately engaged. 'I never before' he proceeds 'had a responsibility which for the time pressed so heavily upon my mind'.
