Letters from Lord John Russell to (a) to the Lords Lieutenant of certain counties, suggesting the protection of life and property; (b) to the magistrates in sessions, and to mayors of boroughs, in certain counties, directing them how to proceed for the preservation of peace in disturbed districts; (c) to Lord Viscount Clive, thanking his lordship and the Shropshire and Montgomeryshire Corps of Yeomanry for their services in restoring tranquillity in Montgomeryshire.

Letter from T. Edmund Marsh from Llanidloes, to the Earl of Powis,

Encloses the depositions against the five rioters recently captured, and also the evidence prepared against John Lewis. Desires to know if the latter is sufficiently strong to warrant a charge of sedition against Lewis. The magistrates are not anxious to multiply indictments, but would like to know whether charges should be preferred against those who assaulted Armishaw and Blenkhorne.

The owner of the building intended as a barracks is prepared to take any rent that may be thought proper. Considers that £18 or £20 per annum is sufficient. There will be convenient accommodation for fifty or sixty men. Was responsible yesterday for the capture of Abraham Owen. He was taken without any difficulty in a house on the outskirts of the town.
