Some of the notes have been written on the blank verso or in the margins of copies of printed leaflets advertising 'Sea Bathing' and 'Genteel Lodgings' at the Ball, Swanbridge, seven miles from Cardiff, the wares of Tucketts and Fletcher, Bristol (Tucketts and Fletcher, grocers and tea-dealers, no. 11, Corn-Street, Bristol ([Bristol], [1795?], ESTC T230410)), and the wares of E. M. Downing at his 'Grand Musical Repository', Bristol, and a printed copy of 'An Elegy on the late Reverend John Wesley'.

In addition the fly-leaf of the first volume is inscribed 'Collectanea relating to the Town and County of Caermarthen'. The contents include a printed copy of Cartularium S. Johannis Bapt. [recte S. John the Evangelist] de Caermarthen . . . A manuscript containing poetry by Cynddelw, Bleddyn Fardd, Dafydd Nanmor, Bedo Aeddren, Dafydd ap Gwilym and others. Pages 1-27 are in the autograph of James Davies ('Iaco ab Dewi'); pp. 29-121 were 'wrote by J. Morgan' (p. 121); pp. 122-126 are in the hand of Samuel Williams; pp. 127-41, 144-153 are in the hand of W[illiam] Maurice; and p. 154 is in the hand of the Reverend Moses Williams.

A facsimile manuscript in two parts mostly in the hand of William Watkin Edward Wynne. The first part comprises copies (some printed) of charters, public records, deeds, pedigrees, poetry, etc. of Merionethshire and Caernarvonshire interest, some of which are taken from transcripts made by Robert Vaughan, Hengwrt. The material includes records and pedigrees relating to the Wynn family of Peniarth; notes on the Maurice and Owen families of Clenennau, Penmorfa, Caernarvonshire, with related deeds possibly in the hand of William Maurice of Llansilin; deeds relating to the Porkington estate; an extent of the commote of Eifionydd, 1352; an extract from the Coroner's Rolls for Merionethshire, 1345; charters of Castell y Bere and Harlech Castle; pedigrees of Madog ap Dafydd of Hendwr, Llandrillo, Merionethshire; an ode to Einion ap Gruffydd of Corsygedol by Gruffudd Gryg; odes to Dafydd ab Ieuan ab Einion by Guto'r Glyn and Dafydd Nanmor; letters addressed to W. W. E. Wynne, the correspondents including Walter Davies ('Gwallter Mechain'); etc. The second part is also mostly in the hand of W. W. E. A manuscript containing the works of the medieval Welsh bards, being a transcript by William Maurice, Llansilin (see p. 492) of British Museum Addl MS 14869. Pp. 69, 119 and 141 bear respectively the dates 1September, 4 October and 6 October [16]66; however, according to an autograph statement by William Maurice at the end of Addl MS 14869 (p. 245b), he completed the transcript on 24 November 1662.
Maurice notes (pp. 473-474) that the original manuscript (now known as British Museum Addl MS 14869), from which this text was transcribed, was partly written temp. Edward II and Edward III and partly temp. Henry V. In an autograph statement on pp. 473-474 William Maurice notes that this original manuscript was once in the possession of Gruffydd Dwnn (c. 1500-c. 1570), Huw Llŷn (fl. 1532-1594) and Rhys Cain (d. 1614), and subsequently came into the possession of Robert Vaughan 'or Wengraig ger llaw Dolgellau' (i.e. Robert Vaughan, Hengwrt (1592-1667)). A later note by 'M. W[illiams]' (p. 474) dated 1728 states that this original manuscript was then at Hengwrt.

An incomplete volume (ff. 1-85, 176-243) consisting largely of cywyddau and englynion by Sion Kent, Sion Tudvr, Grvffydd Grvg, Meredith ap Rees, Will'm ap Sion ap D'd, Gruff' Hiraethog, Will'm Llynn, Huw Arwistl, D'd ap Edmwnd, D'd ap Gwilim, Rob't Leiaf, Rys Goch or Yri, Mastr Hari, Ifan Tew Brydydd, Gytto Glyn, Sion Philipp, Roger Kyffyn, Ievan Fychan, Sr. Davydd Trevor, Tudur Penllyn, Rowland Fychan, Tomas Prys, Evan Tudvr Owen, Ievan Brydydd Hir, William Elias, Tudur Aled, Gruff' ap Ievan, Rys Pennarth, Bedo Aerdrem, Bedo Brwynllys, Iolo Goch, Ellis Rowland, Howel ap D'd ap Ievan ap Rys, D'd Namor, D'd Ddv o Hiraddvc, Lewys Glyn Kothi, Howel ap Ievan ap Rys, Owen Gruffydd, Michael Prichard, Edmwnd Price, Hughe ap Ed'd Lloyd, Rice Kain, Richard Hughes, [Richard Davies] 'Escob Dewi', Ed'd Maelor, Ievan ap Tudvr Penllyn, Harrie Howell, Sion Kain, and Robin Ddv. Towards the end of the volume there are short texts such as englynion in Latin, 'llyma gas bethav Owain Kyveiliog', 'xxiiij gwell', 'Geirie gwir Taliesin', triads, proverbs, the nine grades of kinship, medical recipes, 'Llyma henwau y pedair Caingc ar ddeg Cydwgan a Cyhelyn', and 'Henwau'r pedwar Gosdeg Cerdd dannau'. The greater part of the manuscript was written in the seventeenth century; but there are additions and marginal notes to the nineteenth century. There is an index ('Tabl y llyfr') to ff. 1--76, in a seventeenth century hand. Between ff. 4 and 6 are inserted two leaves (pp. 129-30, 135-6) of David Jones (Trefriw) (ed.): Cydymaith Diddan (Caer Lleon [1766]).

An imperfect manuscript probably of the second quarter of the seventeenth century in the hand of David Elis. It contains 'cywyddau' and 'awdlau' by Gruffydd Hiraethog, Guto r Glynn, Tudur Aled, William Llyn, Ieuan Tew, Tudur Penllyn, Huw Kae Llwyd, Llywelyn Goch amheurig hen, Dafydd Nanmor, Gruffydd Hafren, Syr Owen ap Gwilim, Sion Phylip, Bedo Brwynllys, Morys Dwyfech, Dafydd ap Edmwnd, Llowdden, Tomas Penllyn, Mredydd ap Rys, Sion Tvdur, Dafydd Llwyd Llywelyn ap Gruffydd, Llywelyn ap Gutun Delynior, Syr Rys Karno, Wiliam Kynnwal, Dafydd ap Gwilim, Gwilim ap Ieuan hen, Lewis Glynn Kothi and Ierwerth fynglwyd, together with anonymous poems and fragments. A few 'cywydd' couplets and 'penillion', some by Thomas Owen, have been inserted in blank pages in later hands. The spine is lettered 'Llyfr Dafydd Elis 1630' but it has apparently been ascribed to this year not on internal evidence but on the analogy of Cwrtmawr MS 27, which is in the same hand.

A manuscript largely in the hand of Mary Richards, Darowen containing 'Llyma ddeall y pader ynghymraeg' ('o lawysgrifen ar femrwn cyn 1600'); 'Copi o Ramadeg Gymrae[g] rhai a ddywed Gramadeg Coronwy Owain y dechreu yn eisie'); 'cywyddau', 'englynion' and some 'penillion' by Robin ddu, Dafydd Gorllech, Guttun Owain ('Meredith ab Rhys medd eraill'), Sion Philip, Sypyn Cyfeiliog, Edmund Prys, William Philip, Howel Bedo, Owen Gryffudd, Edward Morys, Owen Robert, Hugh Morys, William Elias, Dafydd ap Gwilim, John Rogers, Ifan Tew Brydydd and Bedo Brwynllys, and anonymous poetry, the greater part of the poetry by Owen Gruffydd and copied 'o Lyfyr Owen Gruffydd'; there are later verses by 'Dewi ab Ioan', (Blaen Afon), David Charles [Carmarthen], Thomas Jones (Maes y Cerndi), J. Blackwell ['Alun'] and [David Richards] ('D[ewi] Silin'); and a copy of a letter from W[alter] Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'], 1817 (the establishment in Montgomeryshire of an Auxiliary Society in aid of the British and Foreign Bible Society). The manuscript is in the form of two books, of which one was partly used, c. 1820, by 'J. H. M. L.' to record 'Adnotationes quaedam admodum miscellaniae', including a list of titles of Welsh airs, a list of Welsh expressions and their English equivalents and notes on the accidence of the Welsh language. Used as the upper end paper is a fragment of an 18th century answer of Christopher Welcker the elder, one of the defendants to the bill of complaint of Wm. Sherlock and Frances, his wife, and James Blundell and Mary, his wife, complainants.

Inside the lower cover is a printed announcement of the formation of Chester Cymmrodorion Society, 1822.

A volume of Crogen Iddon (Pontfadog, Denbighshire) provenance, written mainly during the second half of the seventeenth century. There are copious additions to the original volume made during the second half of the eighteenth century, many being in the hand of Margaret Davies (c. 1700-85?), Coetgae-du, Trawsfynydd. At the beginning of the volume there are a subject classification of the contents and an incomplete contents list in the hand of the original scribe ('Llyma dabal i amlygv pa ryw gywydd[av] owdlav ne englynion, ar bara achosion, i bwy y canwyd hwy ag ymha ddalen y maent yn scrifenedic, megis y gwelwch yn y drefn isod'), and lists by Margaret Davies of Welsh poets and their supposed floruits ('Llymma Henwau part or Beirdd Gynt sef y rhai mwya hynod ac amcan or pryd yr oeddynt yn canu') and the children of Lewis ab Owen 'y Barwn Or Llwyn' [?Dolgellau]. The volume is divided into seven parts, the first lacking a title but containing religious poems and 'Kowyddau ir byd', and the remainder being successively entitled '... Moliant i wyr a ffendefigion Gwynedd ...', '... Kowyddau Kynghorion ...' and 'Kowyddau Kymod, '... Kowyddau erfyniadau neu ofynion ...', '... Kowyddau ymryson rhwng Beirdd ...', '... amryw gowyddau i ferched', and 'marwnadau'. The spine is lettered 'Llyfr David Elis, 1630'.

An imperfect and mutilated manuscript containing 'cywyddau' and 'englynion' by Sion (Jo.) Prichard (a Prichard, ap Risiart), Sion Cent, Morvs ap Howel ap Tvdvr, Huw Morys, Gwerfyl Mechain, Risiart Esgob Dewi [Richard Davies, bishop of St Davids], William Llyn, Huw Llyn, and William Cynwall, and anonymous compositions in strict and free metres, etc. The volume was written c. 1665. On the original brown paper cover is a fragment of a Welsh-English dictionary in the hand of William Gambold (1672-1728), rector of Puncheston and lexicographer.

A volume of papers of David Jones ('Dewi Fardd'; 1708?-85), Trefriw, of which many are in his own hand.
