Petition, Aug. 15 1787, of Edward Wiliams, confined for debt in Cardiff Gaol since 7 Aug. 1786, to the Honourable George Hardinge and Abel Moysey, esquires, HM Justices of Great Sessions for Glamorgan, for redress against Thomas Morgan, keeper of the said gaol. On the dorse are a few noted based on Joshua Thomas: Hanes y Bedyddwyr (Caerfyrddin, 1778), etc.

W. Williams, Aberpergwm, to Mr Taliesin Williams, Glebe land, Merthyr. He feels convinced that no one can produce a history of Glamorgan but the addressee - he has therefore been endeavouring to forward it by infusing his sentiments into others. Requesting that the addressee will as soon as possible reflect maturely on the subject so as to be in a condition shortly to answer the following queries, as correctly as present circumstances will admit. Time is precious, particularly now, as Greenwood is going about, &c.

There are several reasons which induce him to think that the plan of publishing the history in separate volumes issued at distinct periods would be the easiest for the addressee. Yesterday Mr Greenwood called: he (WW) declined subscribing, informing him there was a prospect of a general history of the county being given. Relating to drawing out and issuing a prospectus with as little delay as possible.

Acting on the permission given when he was for the first time introduced to the addressee in the house of Mr Verity at Bridgend and sending a statement of his circumstances. It grieves him very much that he has become so much a burden on his eldest daughter, a bonnet-maker at Bridgend, and it is her distress that has at last stimulated him to make this application.
