T. H. P[arry]-w[illiams], Wern, North Road, Aberystwyth. Has received the englyn. Thanks for the letter The programme Pnawn Da Blant is coming to an end. Finds the Manchester idea quite appealing, and is most grateful to Huw T. Edwards for taking an interest in the possibility. Huw T. Edwards is still a matter for discussion. They both send him their best wishes, and would make him welcome at any time. Welsh.

T. H. P[arry]-w[illiams], Wern, North Road, Aberystwyth. It was most pleasant to meet and talk with Huw T. Edwards recently. Thought that Huw T. Edwards might like to receive a copy of an English book which the writer published some years previously. Only a few friends have previously been given copies. The volume contains English sonnets which he wrote during 1919-20. This was the time when he had resigned and had enrolled for a course in medicine with the intention of becoming a doctor. Most of the sonnets have a sad note, but they are totally sincere. Has not seen a review of Tros F'Ysgwydd. Welsh.

T. H. P[arry]-w[illiams], Wern, North Road, Aberystwyth. Thanks Huw T. Edwards very much for the reminiscences. They were very sorry to learn that Mrs Edwards had undergone treatment, but are pleased that she is recovering rapidly. Hears and sees reports of Huw T. Edwards's activities regularly, but he should certainly not over-tax himself. Huw T. Edwards has never called at Y Wern; he should do so soon. Welsh.

T. Hughes, 70 Parc-y-dre, Ruthin, Honorary Secretary of the Ruthin Local Labour Party, Denbigh Constituency. Robyn Lewis has resigned as the prospective Labour parliamentary candidate for the Denbigh division. Members of the local committee and other supporters are very anxious to nominate Huw T. Edwards in his place. 'The feeling here is that you are the man who could, bearing in mind the present political situation, win this seat for Labour'. Hopes that Huw T. Edwards will allow the local party to nominate him. For reply see A2/131.

T. Hughes, Denbigh Constituency, Ruthin Labour Party, 70 Parc-y-Dre, Ruthin, Denbighshire. Is grateful to the local committee for the invitation to allow his name to go forward as prospective Labour candidate for the Denbigh division. Has consistently refused to stand for Parliament over the last twenty years as he has always felt that he could do more for Wales outside Parliament. But he is still most grateful. Written in reply to A1/513.

T. I. Ellis, Secretary of Undeb Cymru Fydd (The New Wales Union), 13 Great Darkgate Street, Aberystwyth. They are grateful for the work undertaken by the small working party which met at Aberystwyth on 19 March. A report presented to the Council the previous week was gratefully accepted, and a request was made to the working party to continue in existence. They are delighted to know that they are prepared to publish Baner yr Ifanc as a supplement to Y Faner three times a year. Suggests a meeting in the near future to make the necessary business arrangements. Could Huw T. Edwards let him know when he is likely to be in Aberystwyth? Welsh.

T. I. Jeffreys-jones, Coleg Harlech, Harlech, Merionethshire. Is grateful to Huw T. Edwards for his assistance in finding a home for the Industrial Eisteddfod Fund. Has just returned from a fortnight's holiday in Devon, and this was indeed an inspiring beginning to the work of the new session. Thank you for the kind letter.

T. J. Morgan, Tyla Teg, 16 Heol Isaf, Radyr, Cardiff. Congratulations on Tros y Tresi. Was greatly impressed by the contents and the style. Huw T. Edwards should certainly proceed to publish more. Huw T. Edwards should also publish his reminiscences of Ernest Bevin. Has written to Alan Bullock, who is writing Bevin's biography, to say that Huw T. Edwards has materials which would prove valuable to him. Corrects one factual error in the book. Welsh.

T. L[lew] Jones, T'r Ysgol, Coedybryn, Maenllyn, Llandysul. Thanks for the cheque for Emyr [Llew]. They all much appreciate Huw T. Edwards's support for him. They do not know exactly where he will be during the next few days. A further difficulty is that he can send and receive only one letter a week. They are still hoping that he might be moved to an open prison where life is much more pleasant. The writer has telephoned the prison at Walton, and it appears that the five days which he endured without food have not affected his health. It would seem that he is coming to terms well with his imprisonment. Does Huw T. Edwards believe that the Welsh nation is at last awakening? A letter has arrived from Saunders [Lewis], who certainly believes that such is the case. Welsh.

T. Lloyd Roberts, 23 North Drive, Rhyl. Congratulations on Tros y Tresi and on the favourable reviews which it is receiving. Refers to the reviews in the Herald of Wales and other newspapers. The writer and others have defended the quarrymen in an article published in Y Cymro shortly before Christmas in response to an attack by Ernest Jones. Was in correspondence on the subject with Sir Wynn Wheldon who sent the writer a copy of his address to the Cymmrodorion Society. Reflects on his childhood at Ffestiniog. Found the whole of Huw T. Edwards's autobiography interesting. The references to Ro-wen and Gillea chapel within the book. Discusses Ernest Bevin's career. The writer's article in the Christmas number of Y Faner, and the place which he accorded the Welsh language in the Pension Appeal Hearings. Reflects on the subsequent changes which have taken place. The use of the Welsh language in government and administration. Welsh books are very few in the local library. Welsh.

T. Lloyd Roberts, 23 North Drive, Rhyl. Regrets that he is late in congratulating Huw T. Edwards on his resignation. Totally agrees with Huw T. Edwards's sentiments: 'The Whitehall mind cannot see the point of view of Wales'. Gives examples from his personal experience of the way Wales has been mistreated by Whitehall. The Government seems to have completely ignored the recommendations of the Report chaired by Sir Frederick Rees to which William Thomas acted as secretary. Does Huw T. Edwards recall his meeting with Emrys Pride? Pride was moved to Yorkshire 'to shut him up' because of his repeated demands for the introduction of light industries into Anglesey, Caernarfonshire and Merionethshire. Notes in the press that Huw T. Edwards now lives at Mold, but the writer has a Shotton address for him. Welsh.

T. Mervyn Jones, Chairman, Wales Gas Board, Snelling House, Cardiff. The writer wishes, on the occasion of his retirement from the Board, to tender his grateful thanks for the friendliness and comradeship of each member and officer who serve the Board from time to time in various ways. The recipient was the ideal leader of the nationalised gas industry within Wales. Regrets that many of his old friends are no longer in the service of the Board. Feels very privileged in the colleagues with whom he has served on the Board. Hopes that he will still be able to attend special occasions as a guest. Written in reply to A1/760.

[T.] Mervyn [Jones], Dyffryn, Ely Road, Llandaff, Cardiff. Gordon and the writer were both much impressed by the Television Awards Programme the other evening, especially by Huw T. Edwards's part in the programme. Also appreciates Huw T. Edwards's contribution to the success of the parties in North Wales recently. Has seen the copy of the Minister's official letter, and is delighted to know that Huw T. Edwards will continue to serve with the Wales Gas Board. The 'not over 70' rule is currently being strictly enforced on all the boards.
