Letters to and from Tristan Jones

The file comprises letters, 1929-1980, from Tristan Jones to members of his family, together with two stray letters, 1971-1975, addressed to him. The letters to his family give mainly personal, domestic and family news.

Elphin Lloyd Jones memoir

The file consists of messages of appreciation sent to Dr Thomas Jones CH and his wife Rene in response to the publication by the Gregynog Press of a memoir of Elphin Lloyd Jones, their son who was killed in an accident in 1928. There is also a copy of a report published in 1934 on the Elphin Lloyd Jones Memorial Fund.

The file is made up of letters mainly from Dr Thomas Jones to his daughter Eirene. Most of the letters are lengthy and detailed, giving an account of his activities and travels, with occasional references to national and political events. The file also includes a few other items, among them typescript drafts of a profile of James Griffiths MP as Minister of National Insurance and Social Security, and 'Instructions to Eirene' on 'Disposal of T.J.'s Papers'.

The volume contains a rich array of material relating to Dr Thomas Jones. There are many copies of articles, booklets, published lectures and press contributions written by him. The volume also includes the texts of television programmes, photocopies of extracts from later books which refer to Dr Jones, and press reviews of Jones's published diaries and other works. There is also a small number of Jones family photographs and various cuttings.

The file comprises letters from Eirene White to her parents. The early letters are written from Somerville College, Oxford, and describe her academic life and a wide range of social pursuits and activities. Later letters were written during travels in the United Kingdom and trips abroad; they include letters from Cumberland, London, New York, Virginia, Hamilton, Ontario, Boston and various places in Germany. Most of the letters are full and describe travels and events in some detail.
