Folk song indexes

Two card indexes. The first and longer sequence is arranged alphabetically by title of songs/airs with detailed references to printed collections such as the works of John Parry, Edward Jones and Nicholas Bennett, and some manuscript collections such as Ifor Ceri's 'Melus Seiniau'. The sol-fa notation of first lines is often included. The second sequence, again in alphabetical order by title, includes references to various sources in which the songs or airs are named, including J. H. Davies's 'Bibliography of Cerddi' and Bangor Library holdings.

Hymn tune index

A card index compiled by J. Lloyd Williams, listing the titles of hymn tunes, including sol-fa notation and sometimes the words of hymns. This sequence is followed by an index to journals relating to Welsh music and collections of early Welsh poetry, together with cards noting historical landmarks, 178-949 AD.

Ifor Ceri MSS

Material relating to the manuscripts of John Jenkins ('Ifor Ceri'), compiled by J. Lloyd Williams and including a list of some 258 tunes which Ifor Ceri sent to Bardd Alaw, 1820 and 1826; a catalogue of Ifor Ceri papers at the National Library of Wales; and an index comparing the location of tunes in the Ifor Ceri Manuscripts, The Welsh Harper and Alawon fy Ngwlad.

Nicholas Bennett

An index on paper slips, in J. Lloyd Williams's hand, of folk tunes and songs found mainly in the work of Nicholas Bennett. References supporting his candidature for the Chair of Botany at Aberystwyth in 1903 appear on the verso of some slips.

Hymn tunes

A number of hymn tunes, psalms and related notes and press cuttings, [1840], [1906x1930], mostly in J. Lloyd Williams's hand but also including notes by Mary Davies and a few related letters, 1918-1929, from others. Notes of a lecture entitled 'Caniadaeth y Cysegr', delivered at Aberystwyth in 1926, are also included, together with a reference to a folk song in the Ifor Ceri MSS.
