Cases iof Lewis Lewis of Doleclettwr and other miscellaneous cases

Papers from miscellaneous legal disputes involving various individuals in Cardiganshire, 1727-1744. The most prominent of these involve Lewis Lewis of Doleclettwr, mainly in connection with debts and actions of trespass and ejectment, 1727-1732. One file contains cases against Thomas Powell of Nanteos at the time of the violent election at Cardigan in 1729. Other cases concern claims to the estate of Anthony Ball of Llanfair and late of Lodge Park, 1732-1734, matters affecting the estate of George Jones of Rhoscellan, 1732-1744, and a dispute over a seat in Llangynfelyn church, 1734-1736.

Seven vellum documents, 1736-1758, comprising accounts for land revenues to Sir Henry Fox, Lord Holland and Richard Bateman, Receivers General of the King’s Revenues in South Wales. Each multi-page document lists the annual land revenues from the counties of Pembroke, Carmarthen, Cardigan, Brecon, Radnor, Glamorgan and Monmouth in South Wales. Signed by Lt Gen. Thomas Farrington MP of Chislehurst, Auditor of the Land Revenues for Wales, 1739-1750, and subsequently Thomas Wynn, 1761. Declared before successive Chancellors of the Exchequer, Robert Walpole, Henry Pelham and William Barrington.

Probate records and family settlements of the Lewes family of Coedmor and Abernantbychan, together with other papers proving the title and possession of the Lewes and Pryse families to the Abernantbychan estate, 1599-1770; one file relates to trusts undertaken by Walter Pryse as executor of the wills of Thomas Earl of Thanet and others between 1721 and 1739.

The Priory, Cardigan, estate papers and title deeds

Miscelllaneous deeds and documents of the Priory estate, Cardigan, which was sold to Gogerddan by Edward Phillips in 1705, and was occupied by the Picton, Lloyd, Jones and Thomas families. It was conveyed to Albany Wallis in trust for John Pughe Pryse, 1770, and afterwards sold by the latter’s mother, Maria Charlotta Lloyd, to Thomas Johnes, 1774., The series comprises letters, [c. 1560], 1707, deeds, 1651-1721, an agreement to discharge debts, 1705-1708, a survey [c. 1705], rentals [1705x1774], and accounts and receipts, [post-1744] -1766.
