This catalogue of Pitchford estate records (also known as the 'Pitchford MSS') was prepared by the Historical Manuscripts Commission in 1963, when the records were still housed at Pitchford. In 1983 the National Library of Wales purchased all the items offered for sale by C.R.A. Grant and the owners of the estate. However, not all the papers listed by HMC in 1964 were in fact offered for sale. Nos 2-12 are now held in the Liddell Hart Centre for Military Archives, Kings College London; they comprise military correspondence, 1805-1903, and military miscellanea, 1811-[post-1945]; the Liddell Hart Centre's online description of them is on AIM25, <www.aim25.ac.uk>. Nos 108, 111, 125, 127, 242 and 244 are also marked "Not in NLW" in the paper schedule, and Nos 143-156, 261-265, 270-271, 276, 303, 322-324, 359, 382, 386, 415-424 451, 461, 464-465 and 546-552 are marked "Not on [or in] Sale to NLW"; Nos 23, 31, 72, 113, 204 and 317 appear to be cross-references; No. 74 was not used; and No. 502 appears to be the dorse of 501, in which case both numbers refer to a single item.

Deeds relating to the estates of the Ottley family of Pitchford Hall, Shropshire, mainly in the areas of Bridgnorth and Pitchford, with some lands in adjoining counties, including almost a thousand medieval deeds.

Papers of Raymond Garlick, 1944-2005, comprising poetry, 1951-1999; letters, 1944-2003, from Elwyn Davies, Jonah Jones, Brenda Chamberlain, Cledwyn Hughes, A. G. Prys-Jones and others; and diaries and travel journals, 1950, 1956-1957, 1987-1998, 2000-2001. The diaries contain frequent references to his family, including his children Iestyn and Angharad, and to friends such as John Cowper Powys, Jon Dressel, R. S. Thomas and Roland Mathias.

Papers relating to the administration of the Plas Power estate and household, including some properties belonging to the Chirk estate, some but not all of which became part of the Plas Power estate; also included are some records from other properties in England that were owned by the Myddelton family.

Including: publishing detail cards; music stock cards, delivery notes, consignment notes and stationary; copyright; broadcasting and performance fee records; royalty drama fees and analysis book of royalties paid; stock and publication lists; advertisements and miscellaneous business papers.

Papers classified as financial papers by Hughes a'i Fab and have been filed chronologically or have been sequenced according to type of financial paper throughout the decades as follows: sales ledgers, 1891-1958; purchase ledgers, 1894-1925; trade ledger invoices, 1957-1974; orders, 1941-1965; wages, 1947-1973; cashbooks, 1947-1974; purchase ledger invoices, 1958-1967; purchase ledger invoices and overhead invoices, 1942-1972; invoices, 1967-1976; trading accounts, 1947-1959 + BBC + ITV remittance slips, 1956-1973 and accounts, 1931-1975.

Papers classified as correspondence by Hughes a'i Fab and have been filed chronologically or have been sequenced according to the author of the correspondence throughout the decades as follows: 1887-1933; 1932-1950's; 1937-1957; 1950's; A-Y, 1951-1952; 1959-1960; 1960-1965; 1964-1965; 1966-1975 and A-Z, 1968-1973.
