Poem on his Birthday,

Worksheets, [1949x1951], (4 ff.), produced by Dylan Thomas whilst composing 'Poem on his Birthday', written to mark the poet's thirty-fifth birthday, and first published in World Review (October, 1951); an extended version subsequently appeared in Atlantic (March, 1952). The four separate sheets contain ink drafts of stanzas 9, 10 and 11, and variant workings of two lines in stanza 3; one leaf (f. 3r) includes two short lists of names, some of which appear to be creditors. In addition the file contains an extensive word list for the poem, (f. 5r), written in ink and consisting of numerous lists of rhyming and assonant words; "Under a hurled" inscribed on verso.

[Prologue to an adventure],

Untitled typescript copy, [?1963], (4 pp.), of the beginning of 'Prologue to an adventure', published in Wales, no. 1, (1937), containing ink corrections in an unidentified hand; together with a letter, 1963, from Stuart Thomas to David Higham explaining that this is a copy of a manuscript found behind the drawer of the writing desk at the Boat House.

Recording contract,

Contract, 1949, between Columbia Records Inc. and Dylan Thomas, signed by both parties, regarding his contribution to the record issued in conjunction with Lloyd Frankenberg's anthology, Pleasure Dome (New York, 1949). Also included is an amendment to the original contract, 1960, signed by David Higham, together with a typescript letter, 1949, by Lloyd Frankenberg, papers relating to the recording of the album, and a copy of Pleasure Dome.

Included amongst the papers are two notebooks containing research notes and draft letters, 1966, by the author; and a statistical study of words used by Dylan Thomas, with a paper entitled 'A word count for linguists. Script, 1954, (73 pp.), of the BBC production of 'Under Milk Wood', containing a note in biro on the front page from Richard Bebb, who played the second voice, to Richard Jones; together with three letters, 1995-1996, from the latter to Jeff Towns, and three press cuttings and a programme, 1958-1988, relating to the play.

Swansea Intermediate School exercise book belonging to Dylan Thomas and labelled 'D. M. Thomas IV A Physics', [1929x1930], mostly containing school notes, with doodles and a rhyme beginning 'Sewer rats as household pets...'.

Photocopy of a script, [1953], (72 pp.), of 'Under Milk Wood', annotated by Dylan Thomas, and enclosed in a box labelled ''Under Milk Wood' 2nd BBC script typed out by Elizabeth Fox. Oct. 1953'.

Second Preface,

Typescript copy, 1974, (5 pp.) of a revised Preface by Daniel Jones for Under Milk Wood, together with proofs of the edition published in 1975 which comprises the first and second Prefaces (1954 and 1974); both typescript and proofs contain occasional corrections in his hand. Also included is related correspondence, 1974, between Daniel Jones and the publishers, J. M. Dent & Sons Ltd.

South Bank exhibition,

Pocket book with black covers containing notes by Dylan Thomas, [1951x1953], for a radio feature on the South Bank exhibition, together with a list headed "Possibilities for the observer", observations on Persia, and a list of published and proposed works by him. The notebook may have accompanied Dylan Thomas during his third trip to America as it contains notes and contacts relating to the visit, some in the hand of Liz Reitell, in the back of the volume.

The burning baby,

A copy of Contemporary poetry and prose, no. 1, (May, 1936), including the story 'The burning baby' by Dylan Thomas, pp. 10-14; the front cover inscribed by him in ink, "This contains The Burning Baby", and the text of the story also including amendments in his hand.
