Press cuttings (and copies of cuttings) of articles written by, or about, Lord Chalfont, president of the Freedom in Sport Movement (FIS). Also material relating to the administration of the Trust set up to pay the legal costs and disbursements of Allan Rogers, MP for Rhondda and Vice President of the Wales Anti-Apartheid Movement, following legal action taken against him by Lord Chalfont. Contains letters and press cuttings. Some copies of press cuttings pre-date 1982.

Sport in South Africa,

Material relating to apartheid in sport, and to various sanctions and international campaigns against apartheid sport in South Africa, including the Gleneagles Agreement of 1979. Comprises circulars, pamphlets, press releases, statements and conference papers produced by a variety of organisations including the South African Non-Racial Olympic Committee (SAN-ROC), the United Nations Centre Against Apartheid, and the National Sports Congress (NSC).

Cultural boycott,

Material relating to boycotts against cultural events, such as concerts, film screenings, and artistic competitions, which included South African performers or promoted any links to apartheid South Africa. Also material relating to the opposition of UK artists travelling to, or performing in, South Africa. Events and artists targeted include the Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod, Simple Minds and Shirley Bassey, amongst others. Files may include letters, press cuttings, event programmes and other printed items.

Eisteddfodau,

Letters, bulletins, press-cuttings and petitions relating to the campaign against South African competitors in Welsh eisteddfodau, or those Welsh groups who have appeared in South Africa. Events targeted include the Llangollen International Eisteddfod, 1981-1984, the National Eisteddfod, 1981-[1988], and the Urdd National Eisteddfod, 1985.

Apartheid gold,

Material relating to a campaign to boycott the sale of South African gold in the UK, organised jointly by End Loans to South Africa (ELTSA) and the Anti-Apartheid Movement (AAM), comprising letters, reports, campaign kit and printed leaflets. Also includes letters concerning the AAM's support for the World Gold Commission and the use of the AAM symbol on jewellery made with non-South African gold.

Fair elections and independence,

Material relating to campaigns for democracy in South Africa organised and promoted by the Anti-Apartheid Movement and the African National Congress. Also contains material pertaining to campaigns assisting the struggle for freedom in other countries in the Southern Africa region such as Angola, Mozambique and Namibia.

South Africa freedom now,

Material relating to the Anti-Apartheid Movement campaign 'South Africa Freedom Now!' comprising reports, campaign briefings, newsletters, briefing on the tour of the South Africa Freedom Bus, and campaign conference papers.

Namibian uranium contracts,

Material relating to the Campaign Against the Namibian Uranium Contracts (CANUC), which opposed the export of uranium to the UK from Namibia. Includes a copy of "Namibia's Uranium Implications for the South African Occupation Regime" (1975), printed flyers, campaign circulars and briefings, collated statistics and Namibia Support Committee letters.

Nelson Mandela,

Material relating to Nelson Mandela, covering his early life and imprisonment in South Africa through to his role as Deputy Leader, and then President, of the African National Congress (ANC). File comprises leaflets, copies of speeches, newsletters, copies of public statements, news cuttings, a printed history of the trial leading to his imprisonment in 1964, the Order of Ceremony for the Honorary Freeman of the Borough of Islwyn, 1986, and 70th birthday tribute at Wembley, 1988.

Day of protest,

Campaign briefing marking the anniversary of the massacre by South African troops of 26 people on a Soweto-bound commuter train on the 13th of September, 1990. The event became known as the 'Inkathagate Scandal'.

South Africa Freedom Day,

Material relating to the "South Africa Freedom Day Concert on the Square", held at Trafalgar Square 29 April 2001, comprising a programme of events and a copy of the invitation from the African High Commission.

WAAM rallies,

Material relating to the organisation of Wales Anti-Apartheid Movement rallies and demonstrations in Cardiff including correspondence, applications to local authorities, instructions for participants, and publicity material.

Consumer,

Letters received by WAAM in response to the petitioning of local stores and businesses regarding the sale of South African consumer goods, and similar activity carried out by affiliated organisations such as Cymdeithas Yr Iaith Gymraeg and the Barry Anti-Apartheid Group.

African National Congress,

Circulars and routine mailings sent by the African National Congress (ANC) office in London to its UK membership. Also included are a small number of ANC Regional Political Committee (RPC) newsletters, and discussion papers and draft resolutions for the National Conference in June 1991.
