Pre-WPA political pamphlets and records

The group consists of printed items, 1837-1991, including election addresses and leaflets deriving from parliamentary and local elections, other circulars, annual reports, and other political pamphlets deriving from the Liberal Party (later the Social and Liberal Democrats), 1837-1991, the Labour Party, 1890-1985, the Conservative Party, 1852-1987, Plaid Cymru, 1929-1983, Independent candidates, 1919-1987 and the Tom Sherratt Collection 1918-74.

How Red Was My Valley

"How Red Was My Valley" was a 3 part documentary on the history of the Labour Party in Wales to mark its centenary in 2000. It was originally entitled "Though Cowards Flinch", it was directed by Colin Thomas and written and presented by Deian Hopkin. It was broadcast on BBC2 Wales between 14th and 28th October 2000. The files contain correspondence leading the the commissioning of the series, correspondence between the producer, director and presenter, drafts of scripts, the final running order, contracts, details of viewing figures and some background material.

Devolution Campaign

Comprises material relating to the the campaign to ensure that devolution proposals for Wales were included in legislation and the financial affairs of the pro devolution campaign in Ceredigion.

Correspondence

David Jones was a prolific letter writer, and his correspondents were multifarious. He was part of a circle of young Catholic intellectuals, and was connected with artistic and literary circles, as well as a more aristocratic circle. He would often write many drafts of a letter before completing it, especially when writing to the press or to a scholar or critic. The correspondence deals with matters relating to religion, art, literature, history, Wales and more personal matters. -- The group comprises letters to David Jones from friends, acquaintances, publishers and art galleries; drafts letters from David Jones to friends, draft letters to the editors of newspapers; and copies of letters published in Dai Greatcoat : a self-portrait of David Jones in his letters, edited by René Hague.
