Opus 1: Revised as Nocturne and Scherzo for Orchestra

Ink score with pencil annotations, of a 1959 revision of the work titled Opus 1: ‘Nocturne and Scherzo for Orchestra’, including parts for clarinet, violins 1 and 2, viola, violoncello, oboe, bassoon, timpani, flute, trumpet, and horns 1 and 2. The piece was first written in 1952 as 'Introduction (Quasi Notturno) and Allegro Scherzoso' for string quintet, based on the Welsh folk-melodies 'Hun Gwenllian' and 'Hela'r 'Sgyfarnog'. The original piece was awarded a prize in the composition section at the National Eisteddfod of Wales, Aberystwyth (1952), and was first performed at University College Wales, Aberystwyth, in 1953.

Facsimile copy of ink score, dated 8 June 1966 and titled Opus 23: 'A Little Cantata: Ten Traditional Rhymes for Children’s Voices and Piano'. Including works based on the rhymes 'Blow, Wind, Blow'; 'Wine and Cakes'; 'Peter'; 'Terence McDiddler'; 'Tommy Trot'; 'Three a-bed'; 'Pipe, Cat'; 'Grey Goose'; 'Barber'; and 'Four Winds'. Dedicated to Catrin and Ceri.

Opus 42: Dinas Gadarn

One facsimile copy and one ink copy of anthem, dated January 1977, and titled Opus 42: 'Dinas Gadarn'. Includes a typewritten note (unsigned) stating that the anthem was commissioned for the 700th anniversary of the Borough of Aberystwyth by Royston Harvard and the Madrigal Singers, University College Wales, Aberystwyth.

Opus 57: Antiphons for Cello and Piano: Meditations on the Antiphons for the Blessed Virgin Mary

Ink score, dated 1987, and titled Opus 57: 'Antiphons for Cello and Piano: Meditations on the Antiphons for the Blessed Virgin Mary'. Originally commissioned by the Lower Machen Festival in association with the Welsh Arts Council. Written as one of a sequence of three works celebrating devotion to the Virgin Mary which include his Opus 56 (4/8) and Opus 58 (4/9 and 4/10).

Opus 65: Gitanjali Song Offerings: Six Poems of Rabindranath Tagore for Soprano & Chamber Orchestra

Pencil score in five parts, [1995], titled Opus 65: 'Gitanjali Song Offerings: Six Poems of Rabindranath Tagore for Soprano & Chamber Orchestra'. Commissioned for the Llantilio Crossenny 31st Festival of Music and Drama in association with the Welsh Arts Council, and performed at the Festival by the Llantilio Festival Orchestra in June 1993 conducted by Charles Farncombe. The file also contains a programme for the Festival, 1993.

Opus 51: Canticle No.3 The Sleeping Lord

Facsimile copy of ink score for tenor, string quartet and piano, composed between February and May 1983, dated 27th June 1983 and titled Opus 51: 'Canticle No.3 The Sleeping Lord: Fragments of a Poem by David Jones.' The work was commissioned by the Guild for the Promotion of Welsh Music in association with the Welsh Arts Council for the Swansea Festival, 1983. The file also includes a typewritten copy of the poem 'The Sleeping Lord' by David Jones.
