Mark & Mandy stories,

Typescript copies of eight Mark and Mandy children’s stories including some extracts from ‘Sunny Stories’ magazine as published. Some stories were also published in the ‘Fishguard County Echo’ and ‘The riding lesson’ is endorsed ‘Published Mag. For handicapped children - 1962’. ‘Mrs. Cluck’s brown eggs’ as published in ‘Sunny Stories’ has the title of ‘Mark and Mandy and Mrs Cluck’ on the typescript.

Mr Squiggles stories,

Typescript copies of four Mr Squiggles children’s stories including some extracts from ‘Sunny Stories’ magazine as published. Also a note stating that two stories were sent to New Zealand, 23 June 1962.

Peter and Paul the penguin twins stories,

Typescript copies of six children’s stories (1955-1956). They were published in the ‘Fishguard County Echo’ between November 1958 and April 1959. See also ‘Peter and Paul the penguin twins’ correspondence in file 94.

Sammy the seagull stories,

Typescript copies and extracts of two children’s stories that appeared in ‘Sunny Stories’, ‘Fisherman Sammy‘ (1953) and ‘Sammy the seagull’ (1955); and correspondence from the BBC’s ‘Children’s Hour’ (1953).

Scripts and correspondence for picture strip stories,

Correspondence with publishers and typescript from which an artist could work to produce picture strip stories. The stories are ‘Wilberforce J (Jonah) Whale of the Sea Rescue Service’, ‘Peter and Paul – the penguin twins’, and ‘The hovercopter patrol’ (all 1961); ‘Bunny Cuddles’, Gulliver Guinea Pig’s travels’, and ‘Pixie Pip’ (all 1964). Some scripts were written for existing characters in ‘Jack and Jill’ and ‘Playhour’ comics.

Predominantly short story typescripts submitted to various publishers, especially ‘Sunny Stories’ and the ‘Fishguard County Echo’, including many extracts, particularly from ‘Sunny Stories; and correspondence.

Stories submitted to ‘Story Teller II’,

Correspondence and typescript copies of three children’s stories submitted to Marshall Cavendish Partworks Ltd. for inclusion in their ‘Story Teller II’ magazine and tape; none were published. The stories are ‘The dragon with toothache’; ‘Pandora’ [the seaside donkey] and ‘Tell me a story’ (including handwritten notes).

Timothy the tractor stories,

Correspondence (1955-1956, 1961) and typescript copies of seven Timothy the tractor children’s stories although ‘Timothy’s good deed’ and ‘Timothy does a good deed’ are slightly different versions of the same story. These were submitted to various publishers but most were rejected. ‘Timothy goes to Island Farm’ was broadcast on BBC Wales’ ‘Junior Time’ (1961) and ‘Timothy finds a home’ published in ‘Our Magazine’ (May, 1963). ‘Timothy goes haymaking’ has two versions of the story.
