Two letters, dated 1916 and 1925, were possibly forwarded to Myvanwy Rhys; an additional letter, 1953, was sent to Idris Foster by M. V. Taylor. Also included are letters, and fragments of letters, which are unsigned and undated.

Dawson (Carmarthen, 1910), and Manx publications, [1822]-[1836]; reprints, proofs and cuttings of published articles, addresses, letters etc. by various authors, 1863-1912; university manuals, 1869-1871; maps, 1880-1891, of Britain and Ireland, some of which contain manuscript notes; memorial cards of friends and family, 1872-1915; and press cuttings, 1867-1946.

Notebooks and notes, 1836-[1920x1945], mostly in the hand of John Rhŷs. They contain notes of lectures he attended as a student, and research papers mainly relating to philology, folklore and history, with a substantial group of diaries recording ogham inscriptions. Also included are accumulated notes such as Manx sermons, and rubbings of inscriptions.

Notebooks and papers, 1862-1911, of Elspeth Rhŷs, consisting mainly of translation exercises, some containing corrections and notes by John Rhŷs, and including rough drafts of an article by her published in Y Goleuad. Also included is a 'schoolmistresses certificate' containing reports of inspections; an undated verse about her in the hand of her daughter Myvanwy; press cuttings, predominantly 1882, containing references to Elspeth Rhŷs; and papers relating to her death, 1911, including memorial cards for her daughter, Gwladus, 1874.

The series comprises material relating to works by John Rhŷs, namely books, articles, addresses and letters, most of which were published; with an additional file comprising reviews of his books. The papers, 1864-1919, include manuscript and typescript drafts, proofs, reviews, photographs, and other related material.

Papers, 1869-1915, including reports, correspondence and notes, relating to the various commissions, committees and councils with which John Rhŷs was actively concerned. Included is material relating to the Departmental Committee appointed to inquire into Intermediate and Higher Education in Wales, 1869-1880; the Central Welsh Intermediate Education Fund and, in particular, the administration of the Meyrick Endowment, 1879-1901; the Royal Commission to inquire into the operation of the Sunday Closing (Wales) Act, 1881, including a Welsh translation of the report by John Rhŷs, 1890; the Royal Commission on University Education in Ireland, 1902-1911; the Committee on the University of Wales and its constituent colleges, 1872-1915; and the Royal Commission on Ancient Monuments in Wales and Monmouthshire, 1908-1915, which John Rhŷs chaired.

Research notes, 1869x[1940], compiled by Myvanwy Rhys, including transcripts of correspondence, among which is a group of original letters, 1869-1870, from John Rhŷs to Henri Gaidoz, with letters from the latter, and transcripts of letters from John Rhŷs to Edward Clodd, 1897-1900, in the latter's hand; notes relating to reviews of John Rhŷs's books, and letters etc. by him published in various newspapers and journals.

Seven small notebooks, 1862-1865, mostly listing John Rhŷs's expenses and accounts whilst headmaster of Rhosybol British School. The file also comprises two exercise books, 1862, which include the rules, the names of the officers, and members, of the Rhos-y-Bol Literary Society, of which John Rhŷs was secretary. Biographical notes, [1920x1945], in Myvanwy Rhys's hand, describing her father's movements between 1861 and 1864, are noted in the back of one of the notebooks used by the Rhos-y-Bol Literary Society.
