Deeds,

Original bundle of draft and copy deeds, including Ormathwaite’s mortgage of estates in Radnorshire, Berkshire, Cumberland and Middlesex for £23,000 to Messrs Drummond, 1886, his mortgage of estates in Radnorshire, Berkshire and Co’s Cork and Kerry for £5,000 to Andrew Montague, 1888, a transfer of mortgage on properties (not described) in p's Peasmarsh, Rye and Iden in co. Sussex, 1893, and transfers of mortgages on the Warfield Park estate (£33,485) and part of the Radnor estate (£31,000), 1906. Also memoranda and analyses of Ormathwaite’s income and incumbrances. The deeds include schedules of properties in Radnorshire, Berkshire and Co’s Cork and Kerry. The 1888 Montague mortgage includes schedules of properties including (1) the Radnorshire estates in the manors of Swydd (in p's Llanddewi Ystradenni, Llanfihangel Rhydeithion, Llandeglau, Nantmel, Llanbadarn Fawr, Llangynllo), Cefnllys (in p's Cefnllys, Llanbadarn Fawr, Llandeglau, Llanbister, Llanfihangel Rhydeithon and ‘Llandiadd’) and Busmore (in p's Llanfihangel Nant Melan, Gladestry and Old Radnor), (6) the Radnorshire estate in p's Llanfihangel Rhydeithon, Nantmel, Llangynllo, Cefnllys, Llandrindod, Llandeglau, Busmore District, Llanfihangel Nant Melan, Gladestry and Colfa, (8) properties in p's Warfield and Winkfield, Berkshire, (9) the Irish estates (see I), (10) properties in Middlesex, (11) Lord Ormathwaite’s incumbrances (£153,755), and (12) life policies (£27,800) and premiums (£1,505). Schedules 1 and 9 list the tenants in 1858, and schedules 6 and 10 list the tenants [in 1888?]. The deed is endorsed that a memorial of the deed was entered at the Register’s Office, Dublin, 20 April 1888 (book 20, no. 204).

Deeds re. the Warfield Park estate,

Original bundle of deeds re. the Warfield Park estate, mainly tenancy agreements, but also including agreements for shooting over the estate and the sale of timber, a deed of exchange and an employer’s liability insurance policy. They also include a draft agreement between Lord Ormathwaite and D. E. R. Griffith of Highbury, Llanyre, Samuel Morson of The Pines, Llanyre, and Captain Savours, manager of the National & Provincial Bank, Llandrindod, for sporting over 2,703a. of the Radnorshire estate. Deeds numbered 1-15.

Draft deeds,

Original bundle of draft deeds (numbered 1-15) relating to the sale of properties in the ancient p. of Crosthwaite, Cumberland, including Millbeck Hall farm and estate (1539a.) and Low Grove Farm (64a.) in the civil p. of Underskiddaw, and Scott Gate Farm (18a.), Bog House (80a.) and a joiner’s shop (formerly a tithe barn) in the civil p. of Above Derwent. Some at least of the properties were lots 4-5, 10-11 and 13 in the Scott Gate Farm auction, 12 March 1921. Plans attached to no’s 7 and 10.

Deeds and documents relating to 40 Lowndes Street,

Original bundle of deeds (mainly copies and drafts) and documents relating to 40 Lowndes Street, p. St George Hanover Square, Middlesex. In 1843 the parcel of land was let by William Lowndes of Cheshunt, Buckinghamshire, esq., to William Turton Newton and John Kelk of Cavendish Square, builders, for 86 years. The following year they sold the house that they had built to Henry William Barnard, lieutenant-colonel in the 1st Regiment of Grenadier Guards. After divers assignments of the residue of the term of years (including the will of Rev. William Midleton Snell, dated 1881, proved 1899), the lease was bought by Lord Ormathwaite in 1920. Lord Ormathwaite then spent £1,875 re-decorating the house.

Deeds and documents,

A six-inch Ordnance Survey map, Radnorshire XVI NE (second edition, 1904), and three undated plans, of Rhos Swydd, Canoldre House and Liverpool House, have been tranferred to the Department of Pictures and Maps (acc. nos 0200008303, 8307, 8311 and 8321). The last two plans were drawn by Addie & Son of Shrewsbury, and are only assumed to relate to Radnorshire.

Original bundle of requisitions on title relating to the sale by Lord Ormathwaite of premises in the Radnorshire estate, including in p's Colfa and Glascwm, including The Bailey, Bronllys, The Cloggy, Cwmkesti, an allotment on Llandeglau Rhos, part of Penllan Farm, and Rhos Swydd cottage and lands, and including lots 1-7, 11-12, 17, 19-23, 27-28, 30-32 and 35-36.

Bracknell, 1891 (E 2/2), lease for 5 years from the Duke of Richmond to Katherine Emily Mary, lady Ormathwaite, of a dwelling house in Strettington, p. Boxgrove, Sussex, 1897, together with letters relating to the same from the Duke, 1897 (E 2/3-6).
