An imperfect manuscript of the late seventeenth century in the hand of Huw Morys, with copious additions in a number of early eighteenth century hands. It consists largely of 'cywyddau', 'carolau', 'cerddi' and 'dyrïau' by Huw Morys himself, with a few poems in both strict and free metres by Owen Gwynedd, Humphrey Owen, Simwnt Vychan, William Miltwn [Midleton, Myddelton], Doctor Sion Kent, Roger Kyffin, Sion Sgrufen and John Davies ('of Rhiwlas'), and anonymous poems. The volume is lettered 'Barddoniaeth Huw Morys'.

Two volumes in the hand of Mary Richards, Darowen consisting largely of transcripts of poetry from manuscripts then in the Llansilin Collection (e.g. Cwrtmawr MSS 204, 206-7, 227, 238, 242-3). Other transcripts in the collection are items from 'copy o un [o] lyfrau Maesglase, Mallwyd', including 'Merddin ai dywaid', 'Taliesin ai traethoedd', Merddin ai Traethodd', 'Taliesin ai Traethodd', and 'Merddin a Gwenddydd'. Breese'. Owen Jones was for a short time a private tutor at BrynTanad (see The Dictionary of Welsh Biography). The spine is lettered 'Mannoethwy MSS'.

At the reverse end is the beginning of a Welsh translation of A Practical Discourse concerning a future judgment by William Sherlock, D.D. [pp. 1-11] ('Traethod bucheddol am y farn a fydd (sy' i ddyfod) o waith Wm. Sherloc y D.D.'), followed by englynion by Ed. Morys and Siôn Rhissiart, etc. and a note in pencil by St. G. A[rmstrong] W[illiams], July 8 1886: 'Cannot find a name for this note book, so as to identify it on the Catalogue'. In the list of Cwrtmawr manuscripts it is described as 'Llyfr W. Rowlands, 1700'. J. H. Davies has added in pencil: 'W Rowland see R. Ellis article on Lhwyd' [i.e. Trans. Cymm., 1906-7, pp. 26-8].

A small volume, originally with clasps, containing 'cywyddau', 'englynion', etc. by Evan ab Evan (lines from Anacreon), Taliesin, Dafydd ap Edmwnt, John Philipp, Richard Philip, Dafydd ap Gwilim, Tudur Aled, John Dafies (Dafis), Owen Gwynedd, W(illiam) Llyn, Sion Brwnog (Brwynog), Dafydd Trefor, Dafydd Llwyd ap Llywelyn ap Gruffydd, Iolo Goch, Thomas Prys o Blas Iolyn Esgwier, Hugh Llwyd Cynfal, Doctor (Sion) Cent, Tudur Penllyn, Edward M[orus], Sr. Morgan, Rowland Vaughan, Hugh ap Ev. ap Ro[ ] and Wmphre David. The contents appear to have been transcribed after 1744 from a manuscript annotated by Lewis Morris, and a note on p. 100 suggests a connection with BM Additional MS 14866, although none of the poems are to be found in that volume. There are a number of quotations in the margins and elsewhere from Pope, Homer, Dryden, etc. At the beginning, in a later hand, are an 'englyn' by Siencyn Thomas Morgan and an 'englyn' which is described as being on the tombstone of the Reverend Alban Thomas of Blaen y Porth, Cardiganshire. A note in pencil on the limp boards which were originally inside the vellum cover reads 'Gwaith hen Feirdd MS from Rev. Armstrong Williams'.

A volume of poetry, chiefly in strict metre, written largely in the autograph of Owen Gruffydd (?1638-1730) between 1677 and 1692. Most of the poems are by Owen Gruffydd, but the following poets are also represented: Robin Ddu, Dafydd Gorllech, John Roger, Sion Phylip, Sypyn Cyfeiliog, Dafydd ap Gwilym, William Phylip, Gyttyn Owain ('medd rhai' 'Meredydd ap Rhys' in another hand), Ifan Tew Prydydd, Huw ab Iva[n], Bedo Brwynllysg, Edmwnt Prys, Edward Morys, Matthew Owen and Hugh Morys. There is a list of contents at the beginning and the poems have been correspondingly numbered. There are 'penillion' by William Elias on p. 309b. John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') has supplied a lacuna in the manuscript from Peniarth MS 124. Almost all the 'cywyddau' in this manuscript, but not the 'englynion' and the poems in free metre, are to be found also in Peniarth MS 124, which is later in date than the present manuscript and written in a different hand. The pages have been numbered by Dr J. Gwenogvryn Evans and his report on the manuscript is in J. Gwenogvryn Evans MS 70a (under 'M[yrddin] F[ardd] 5'). If the information given on pp. 1 and 50 is correct, Owen Gruffydd was born in 1638. A note at the end (p. 238) of his elegy to Sir Roger Mostyn (d. 1690) states that the poet received fifty shillings for the 'cywydd'. There is a folio missing after p. 36 and another is wanting before p. 53.

A notebook in the hand of J. H. Davies containing a 'Glossary' - i.e. an alphabetical index - of first lines of poems of Dafydd ap Gwilym.

A manuscript in the hand of 'David ap Griffith effyriad' (see pp. 13, 14) containing medical precepts and prescriptions (pp. 15-27, 54-92), material of botanological (pp. 28-40), physiological (pp. 41-49) and theological (pp. 1-12) interest, and poetry (pp. 13-14, 50-53). The section on botany includes a Latin-Welsh vocabulary of plant names. Poetical works cited are those of Taliesin, Dafydd ap Gruffydd and Gruffudd Gryg.
There are traces of the hand of Sir Thomas Wilems (p. 40), and also of another hand on many folios.

This manuscript is apparently in the same hand as large portions of the Red Book of Hergest and Peniarth MS 32. The contents, with few exceptions, are manifestly taken from Jesus College MS 2 and Peniarth MS 5. Pp. i-vi belong to the fifteenth century and contain pedigrees (p. i) which are somewhat difficult to decipher; triads (p. ii); and poetry by Dafydd ap Gwilym and Ieuan Dew Brydydd (p. iv-vi).

Peniarth MS 12, p. 124; for f. 163 (Dy gygor ath gyssul yw ...) see ibid., p. 125. For f. 164b (Llyma ual y treythir o gynghoreu catwn ...) cf. Peniarth MS 3, p. 31 and 27, ii (pp. 16-20). For f. 172b see Peniarth MS 14, pp. 1-20, omitting items under pp. 6, 7, 14; there are slight verbal differences in the text and a tendency to insert passages about the 'Catholic faith' and the 'virgin mother'. The end of the manuscript is missing: the final words are 'Lleidyr oed gynt . ae enw ebbo ... tebygu na ladyssei y magyl arnaw . yn y lle nessau attaw aorugant ar uedyr'. A letter dated at Talgarth on 19 September 1719 and addressed to 'the Rev. Moses Williams att Dyfynnog in Breconshire' is bound in at the end of the manuscript.

Welsh poetry transcribed by Moses Williams from Llyfr Coch Hergest (the Red Book of Hergest), cols 1026, 1028-1031, 1034, 1039-1049-1056. At the end of the manuscript is a copy of a letter (f. 60), dated at Oxford, 7 September 1708, relating to the burning of Irish and British manuscripts by Jesuit missionaries in Brittany, 'excepting such as tended to Devotion'.

There is some controversy as to whether f. 137 contains work by Llewelyn ab Ieuan or by Deio ab Ieuan Du. The volume is labelled 'Odlau a Chywydda. A. 4°'.
Ff. i-ii, 137-143b are not in the same hand as the rest of the manuscript, and ff. 144b-146 are in a modern hand. Ff. 1-56 may be copied from Peniarth MS 109; the order of the poems is the same at first, but the readings do not always agree, and there are four poems in this manuscript which are not in Peniarth MS 109. Pp. 11-96 of Peniarth MS 77 are copied from this manuscript. William Salesbury or Sir T. Wiliems has written what looks like 'rhyderch ap Howel ap Dauyd' on f. 136b.

The manuscript is written in the same hand as that in Peniarth MSS 48 and 134 and Llywarch Reynolds MS. The leaves are in good condition. On pp. 565-580 is an index to the authors of the poems compiled by Richard Morris for William Jones, London, 1747.

A manuscript containing poetry of Bedo Brwynllys, Dafydd ap Gwilym, Guto'r Glyn, Huw Cae Llwyd and others (pp. 1-136, 149-159); a vocabulary (pp. 137-149); Dafydd Ddu [Hiraddug]'s Grammar (pp. 161-198); the statutes of Gruffydd ap Cynan (pp. 199-206 (at the end of this extract is the note 'Dyma y maint a gebhais o'r Statut yn lhybhyr Meistr Sion ap Edward gam o drebh newydd, o blwybh Dewi yn Sir bhracheiniog . 1579 .'); a translation into Welsh of Genesis I (pp. 230-245); Biblical extracts and history (pp. 246-264) (a note on p. 252 records that the Biblical extracts were taken 'o lybhyr Mr Edmond Morgan o Bhedwelhty'); &c. All but pp. 256-259, 265-268 and part of p. 198 are in the autograph of the grammarian Dr John David Rhys (1534-1609); his peculiar orthography begins on p. 13, l. 21. The poetical extracts vary in length from three to fifty lines. The lines selected are not always consecutive; they are even occasionally fragmentary, and many words are explained or glossed. The awdl on p. 256 is in a different but contemporary hand from that of Dr John David Rhys. For p. 265, cf. the text on pp. 22-24, which agrees in part. For the dating of this manuscript see p. 207.

A manuscript written c. 1648 (see p. 658) containing poetry, the poets cited including Taliesin, Iolo Goch, Dafydd ap Gwilym, Wiliam Cynwal and Siôn and Rhisiart Phylip. An index, with the poets' names arranged alphabetically, has been added at pp. 659-672 by Richard Morris for William Jones in London, 1746.
Many lines and half lines are wanting throughout the text owing probably to the imperfection or illegibility of the originals.

A manuscript containing an 'Important Corpus of Welsh Poetry' compiled by the Reverend Samuel Williams and Iaco ab Dewi [James Davies], with the first lines of the poems given alphabetically in an index. The volume also contains 'Histori Pren y Fuchedd', and a (non-autograph) letter from Siôn Mawddwy to Meurig Dafydd. Added at the end of the volume is a fifty-page index to the authors of the poems compiled by Richard Morris in 1747. Ff. 196-243 (containing poems numbered 632-737) are in the autograph of Iaco ab Dewi, while the remainder of the volume, excluding the end index, is in the hand of Samuel Williams. The poets cited include Taliesin, Iolo Goch, Dafydd ap Gwilym, Siôn Mawddwy, Gruffudd Hiraethog, Tudur Aled and Siôn Phylip.

Four leaves, more or less fragmentary, by a later hand, have been bound between pp. 82 and 83, the end wanting from the text on the last leaf of this section. At p. 112b, c is a misplaced leaf containing English poetry.

Baxter in Totnham Highcross near London'. Item 168 is a piece entitled 'A true Character ... of the Gentry within the Counties of Carmarthen, Pembroke and Cardigan during the Commonwealth'.
