‘Security upon lands in Wales’

‘Security’ (mortgage) for £9412 by Sir Pryse Pryse to Col John Lewes, Henry Charles Fryer and Col. Edward Lewis Peyse, 1876, on lands in Wales not comprised in the family settlement of 1846, endorsed with a release back to Sir Pryse Pryse, 1879, and two further charges for securing additional sums to enable the transfer of mortgages on Cwmsymlog Ganol and Cwmsymlog Issa, 1877-1878.

‘State of the poll and other papers relating to Cardigan Election 1812’

Papers relating mainly to the election for the Cardigan Boroughs in which Pryse Pryse proposed Herbert Evans of Highmead against John Vaughan of Trawsgoed, 1812. The file contains printed notices of the state of the poll, resolutions of a meeting at Adpar in support of Col. Vaughan, election propaganda and the sheriff’s public proclamation of the election in the shire hall at Cardigan; part of a burgess list from Nancwnlle; letters of support to Mrs Pryse from Mrs Gilbertson of Dolyclettwr, Mrs Bonsall, and others; a letter to Edward Loveden Loveden of Buscot Park from Samuel Sellwood about the Lampeter books and questioning the rights of mayors and freemen; and the state of the poll in the Pembrokeshire election, 1812

‘Supplement Receipts’, building accounts

Large original parcel containing smaller packets of supplemental accounts, bills and receipts, mainly for building materials and labour at various properties belonging to the Gogerddan estate, including the Gogerddan gardener’s house and sheds, Pempompren Ucha, Clarach Schools, Blaendyffryn, Glan y mor, Cwmbwa house, Brysgaga, Cwmere buildings, Brynllys, Tynyrabbey, Henhafod, Penrhyn-coch farm, Henllys house, Cefncoch implement house and wool loft, Cynnull Mawr, Pwllglas, Tynohir, Glanyravon. Ystradeinion, Bryngwyn Isa, Bryngwyn Canol, Old Cwm (Cwmcynfelyn), Rhydypennau, Gloucester Hall and cow house, Lletty Llwyd, Brwyno, Bryngwyn Mawr, Tynyffynnon kennels, Bronygof and many other named properties, 1869-1881. Other items of interest are bills for the funeral expenses for the late James Lloyd, 1877; an account of the tithe rent charge, 1880; drainage at Tynllwyn, Neuadd March and Henhafod, 1871-1880, and at Lodge Marsh, 1871-1877; surveys and valuations by George Jones and James Green, 1880

‘Transactions of Manor Courts’ (presentments, etc.)

Court leet presentments of the manor of Genau’r-glyn, dated 1851-1856, and presentments and perambulations, 1889-1918. At the back of the volume are summaries of a case in Aberystwyth County Court and presentments, mainly concerning encroachments, 1852-1857; a list of Cardiganshire manors; an abstract of title of Our Lady’s Mill, Aberystwyth, compiled from papers at Woodstock, 1574-1742; routine notices issued by the steward, 1856; and copies of papers relating to the right of Pryse Loveden as lord of the manor to claim wreckage in the manor of Genau’r-glyn, 1854-1860

‘Various accounts and papers relating to the Island or Taliesin mine'

Original bundle in a nineteenth century wrapper marked ‘Various accounts and papers relating to the Island or Taliesin mine' including a tack note from Thomas Pryse to John Hugh, 1734’ [to work at Ynysgynfelyn]. The remainder of the file comprises bills, receipts, accounts and memoranda, 1740-1774; letters to Thomas Pryse, David Morgan of Tal-y-bont, Thomas Lloyd at Gogerddan and John Lewes of Carmarthen, from William Thomas at Tanyrallt, Garreg and Tre’r-ddol, William Rowe of Aberystwyth, Thomas Burton of Brynmoyle, John Lloyd of Rug and John Tilsley of Llandinam, 1741-1781; and loading bills for ore received on board the Eagle, the Rose and Crown of Aberystwyth, the Union, the Einion, shipped to Robert Morris of Swansea, 1751-1757

‘Vouchers for payments charged in the account of 1817’

Original bundle labelled ‘Vouchers for payments charged in the account of 1817’ but the title does not cover all the contents. There are several receipts for crown rents in Pembrokeshire and Cardiganshire, deriving from the manors of East and West Pembroke, Cilgerran, Iscoed Gwynionydd, the town of Pembroke, the commotes of Mavon and Mavenon, and Iscoed Gwynionydd, 1817; letters from Edward Jones of Llandovery to Evan Davies, solicitor, of Cardigan, concerning Mr Loveden’s business, and the stated account of Evan Davies, 1818, settled 1820.

Timber account book (‘Woods ledger’) of the Gogerddan estate, 1887-1917. Contains entries for sheep and lambs, 1887-1894.

Aberbechan estate title deeds

Title deeds of houses and lands belonging to the estate of Aberbechan, Montgomeryshire, in the parishes of Aberhafesb, 1609, Betws Cedewain, 1564-1596, Carno, 1238, 1584-1590, Llanllwchaearn, 1566-1595, Llanwnnog, 1650, and Manafon, 1669-1680, together with miscellaneous bonds and other documents, 1577-1635. Several of the deeds record transactions of John Pryse of Aberbechan and Gogerddan, Edward Pryse, Sir Richard Pryse and the family of his wife, Dame Gwen Pryse, particularly Rees ap Morys ap Owen of Aberbechan. This series contains the earliest document found in the Gogerddan estate records, a gift by Brother Hugh of St Asaph to the Hospital of Jerusalem in Carno, 1238.

Aberdyfi, Cefnrhos, Caethle, etc.

Title deeds of miscellaneous properties relating to the Caethle estate, mainly in the townships and parish of Tywyn, 1555-1668. The properties include personal goods and chattels of Edward Powel of Nannau, Merioneth, mortgaged to Lewis Gwyn of Tywyn, 1555; Bryn y Kellowydd and Brynnier Aber in Aberdyfi (Aberdovey), purchased by Hugh ap D’d Lloid ap Edward, 1562; premises in Cefnrhos, in a fine and recovery involving John Pryse, 1577; Tythyn Mawr yn Aberdyvi, leased by Sir Richard Pryse of Gogerddan to Edward ap Hugh of Cefnrhos, 1604/5; and Fadva or Ddufadva, purchased by William Vaughan of Caethle from Jenkine Price of Penmaen, Merioneth, 1668. Other documents show transactions of the Nanney family of Nannau, Maesypandy and Lanfendigaid, and John Lloyd of Maesypandy, comprising three bonds, one by Maurice Price of Ystrad Faelog, Montgomeryshire, 1650, and two of which are for payment to Eleanor and Mary Hugh of Aberffrydlan, Montgomeryshire, 1668. The file also includes the will of Rees Vaughan ap Will’m of Corsygedol (1580), devising mainly mortgaged properties in Gwrych, Tywyn, Bron-prys, etc., proved 1582/3
