I am delighted to have received your letter conferring the title of Sardar on me. This has been our desire for a long time and it has given us great joy and happiness.

In your recent letter you informed me that you have not received the letter of the Nawab Vazir along with testimonials of honours and high office. Secondly, he has also not given his views on the case of Genda Mall. Jagat Seth Sahib and Maharajah Sahib had also promised that they will make sure that you receive the testimonials of honours and grant of land and office within one month. As a consequence of this, testimonials with their copies attested by Qazi were received by us from his Majesty. Our enemies were no doubt disappointed when Jagat Seth Sahib and the Maharajah Sahib sent the kharita containing the reply from the Nawab Wazir and copies of the testimonials attested by Qazi to you. At the same time Genda Mall and Najib Rai were exiled from the city. --- I will appreciate if you acknowledge the receipt of these testimonials after you have had them examined by your judges.

I would like to bring to your notice the following two cases. -- The first one concerns the parvanah received from the Nawab Vazir al-Mumalik in reply to your request for the grant of appropriate honours and titles to you and the second is about your annoyance at the troubles created by Genda Mall and the bad intentions of Ranjit Rae. As you very well know, I do not have the resources or power to resolve these issues but you will be pleased to know that I have now received documents relating to the grant of honours and status duly signed and sealed by the Qazi. As far as the cases of Genda Mall and Ranjit Rai are concerned, both have been exiled from their territories [see entry no 500 in CR8/1]. In addition, I can assure you that you will soon receive a firman from His Majesty, along with original documents relating to your awards.--Another, contemporary translation of the contents is CR8.1, entry no. 526.

I was very pleased to have received your letter of 9 Ramadan, reg.yr. 5, which is 20th of June through an unknown messenger informing me that you reached safely at Murshidabad. After this letter, the only other communication I had from you was when you reached Khaligam. As I did not receive any communication since then I was worried about you. Now I came to know from Mr Amherst that you have left for Calcutta. I am most anxious to know about you wellbeing. Thank you very much for your letter informing that you were going by high-speed coaches to the border areas of the province to subdue some of the zamindars there and that you have arrived at Manz/ Manar[?]Thursday and that you will be reaching Sarodha soon. With the grace of God you will achieve victory soon. Because of this news Nawab Nasir al-Mulk Bahadur [i.e. Miran] has decided to wait here today. I, too, am longing to join you but it is necessary that I too wait here

Thank you for letting me know that you have reached Calcutta safely and that you have started taking the medicine which, after fifteen or twenty days, will give you a perfect health. I have also received copy of a letter from Shiv Bhatt, along with a number of letters from some other people. In Shiv Bhatt's letter it is mentioned that Raja Januji Bhonsalah is demanding four Lac and fifty thousand rupees from Masabih al-Din Muhammad Khan. This is a mischief from Bhatt. In order to settle this case we have written to Januji Bhonsalah that he should appoint someone trustworthy to send and to negotiate and settle this affair. Now Rajah Januji has written to us that he has put Shiv Bhatt in prison He has already deceived Bejnath and now wants to create trouble for us. -- Another, contemporary translation of the contents is CR8/1, entry no. 523.

I had sent letters of Maharajah Sahib, Jagat Seth Sahib and Maharajah Sarupchand Sahib, along with my report on 25th Ramadan, reg.yr. 5. I will be grateful if you could send their replies so that I can pass them on to the above-mentioned persons. Maharajah Sahib had written to you and Amir Beg Khan regarding the return of papers and staff of the districts of Hoogli and Panjali[?]. I hope you will be able to reply to them soon.

I have not received any communication from you regarding your health for some time. During this period I have come to know that you had fallen ill but with God's grace and care of the doctor you have now recovered from your illness. Amir Beg Khan, with your approval, had agreed that after reaching Hoogli he would send all accounts with their papers to me but until now this has not happened. As the financial year is coming to a close, and the payment to staff from the Company are now due, I will be grateful if you could send instructions to the staff at Hoogli, Sulaiman Beg and Basant Ram and Jagan Nath Das, etc., that they should send relevant papers as soon as possible. -- Another, contemporary translation of the contents is CR8/1, entry no.525.

I had gone to pay my respect to Sri Sahib and from there I came to Pir Bhum and after travelling continuously I reached Banglah Banaspore, Chaklah Bandar Balsar on 15 Ramadan. Here I came to know that the followers of Maharajah Modaji [Madhuji] Bhonsalah have entered Benares and are intending to march to Azimabad. At the same time Samaji Bhonsalah with his army and Bakhu Pandit will soon be entering Jhans[?] Garh and from there they will come to the city of Gang. As the case of four Lac and fifty thousand rupees owed by Masabih al-Din Muhammad Khan is not settled yet and he has escaped to Nagpore I am requesting you to help in this matter. -- On verso are details of the properties owned by Masabih al-Din together with their respective values so that the above amount can be realised by their sale, etc. -- Another, contemporary translation of the contents is CR8/1, entry no.506

Thank you very much for your letters. As I have explained to you in my previous letter, I have moved here to look after the affairs of Bhojpur and adjoining districts. You must have been informed about this by the Kothi as well as by Mr Amayatt Sahib that I have been managing affairs here for the last one year. I was completely unaware of the fact that you were becoming angry at the worsening of the situation here.
