Papers relating to private family interests,

Papers relating to the intellectual and social interests of the Williams Wynn family or their relations by marriage, comprising catechisms, [17th cent, first ½]; printed almanacs, 1656; a manuscript notebook of Edward Lhuyd, 1698-1699; and the Llangedwyn Club book, 1797-1799.

Papers relating to careers of family members,

Papers accumulated by members of the Wynn and Williams Wynn family in the course of their legal and political careers, namely Henry Wynn and Sir John Wynn, 1631-1663; Sir William Williams, 1673-1675; and probably Sir Watkin Williams Wynn, 1732-[1749].

Oswestry/Llanforda estate

The collection comprises property in p. Oswestry (including t's Trefarclawdd, Maesbury, Cynhinion, Pentre-gaer, Trefonnen, Llanforda and Treflach), p. Selatyn, p. St Martin's, p. Baschurch, (t. Soughton) p. Llansilin, and Tancoedygaer, all in Shropshire. Collectors: Richard Croxon, 1809-1838, John Croxon, 1839-1851, Nathan Burlinson, 1852-1860. From 1855 (R110/1a), the collection includes the Llwynmaen estate (see the Llwynymaen Estate collection, 1839-1854). After 1860, the property will be found in R116/3a, then in R117/2a, both of which are rentals of co. Salop. and co. Denb., estates of which Sir Watkin Williams Wynn is seised in fee simple; then they will be found in the collection entitled Farm and Cottage Rents. Oswestry, Selatyn (Brogyntyn) and Whittington, title deeds,

Title deeds relating to houses and lands in the parish of Oswestry and its townships, the township of Brogyntyn (Porkington) in Selatyn and in Berghill, Daywell and Hindford in the parish of Whittington. Many of the files refer to properties in various combinations of these places, arranged as follows: Whittington, 1435-1625; Oswestry, Selatyn (Brogyntyn) and Whittington, 1513-1568; Oswestry, Selatyn (Brogyntyn) and Whittington, 1529-1613; Selatyn (Brogyntyn), 1532-1574; Whittington (outsize folder), 1597-1735; Oswestry and Selatyn (Brogyntyn and Ifton Upton), 1598-1671; and the estate of John Jones, Whittington and Oswestry, 1671-1695. The series includes two original deed boxes.

Title deeds for properties in the townships of Trefonnen, Trefarclawdd, Treflach, etc., in various named streets in Oswestry, and in Sychdyn, Llansilin. Many of them are known to have belonged to the estate of Richard Edwards of Trefonnen. The files describe the lands of Richard ap Hugyn, Y Garthe, etc., 1416-1594; miscellaneous properties in Trefonnen, 1552-1634; Ty ym Hen y Lan, lands in Maes y Myver, etc., 1561-1604; the capital messuage of Trefonnen and lands in Trefarclawdd, Sweeney and Sychdyn, 1606-1618; lands in Trefonnen, Treflach, and Trefarclawdd, purchased from the Thelwall family, 1614-1654; Maes Pwll Helig, Erw yr Gwynt, etc., 1625-1642; the will of Richard Edwards, 1647; the purchase by Watkin Kyffin of the capital messuage of Trefonnen, Pentre yr Hyven, etc., 1649-1663; Trefonnen, Trefarclawdd, Bailey Street and Church Street, 1649-1744; Erw Fedw, etc, 1671-1696; Moilith Farm, 1723-1771; the purchase of two houses, 1747-1766; and Trefonnen, Trefarclawdd and Oswestry town, 1788, 1820.

Oswestry (Trefarclawdd), title deeds,

Title deeds for miscellaneous properties in the township of Trefarclawdd, mostly purchased by Watkin Kyffin and Sir William Williams of Glasoced; some of them may have belonged previously to the estate of Richard Edwards of Trefonnen (q.v.). Recurrent names include the Lloyd family of Llanforda, and ap Howell/Powell, Jennings and Griffith of Trefarclawdd. All the files have assorted contents, so readers may need to examine several bundles to locate deeds belonging to the same property. The files are as follows: 1379-1583; 1380-1633; 1606-1641; 1643-1656; 1658-1676; 1677-1681; 1682-1701; 1694-1810.

Title deeds for properties in the township of Cynhinion in the parish of Oswestry, comprising four files, three of them containing miscellaneous deeds, 1344-1657, 1656-1666, and 1670-1677, and one file relating to the fulling mill at Cynhinion, 1756-1808.

Non-Wynnstay trusts

Papers relating to other estates and families for whom the Williams Wynn family acted as trustees, namely the Wynne family of Peniarth, Merioneth, 1846-1881, the Rug estate, 1868-1874, and the Cornwallis West family, 1870.

The 'non-Wynnstay rentals' described below (RA 30-40) are mostly strays. Where known, the reasons for their presence among the Wynnstay archives are indicated. Cross-references are given where there appear to be links between 'non-Wynnstay rentals' and the general series. Included with the 'non-Wynnstay rentals' described below are stray rentals which are to be found in the general series (R 3/3-5 and R 3/10-12).
