Original parcel of vouchers labelled ‘Merionethshire and Carnarvonshire bills paid 1861’, containing separate packets for each of the two counties. Includes in Merioneth: bills for building repairs at Glyn Hall and farm, Friddfedw, Llechollwyn, Ty Cerrig, houses in Harlech, Glan y Mor, Singrig Mill and Hafod Ucha; and a subscription for the celebration at Barmouth of William Wynne coming of age. Includes in Caernarfonshire: building repairs at Braich y Saint, houses in Penmorfa, Ty Mawr in Treflys, Brynefail Isa, Maesyllech, Bwlchyfedwen, Clenennau, Tynlone, Fronolau, Blaen y Cae, Plas yn Pennant, Ystumcegid, etc.

Williams of Cwmcynfelyn, 1854, and Capt. W.T. Jones of Gwynfryn. Items of interest include Thomas Penson of Gwersyllt Hall and Oswestry about the new Llyfnant Bridge, 1851-1852, Llewellyn Davies of Llanidloes on mapping Nantyrarian manor, 1851, Charles Wilding of Powis Castle about the rent for Trwyngwningen near Aberystwyth Castle, 1851-1853, Lewis Roberts of the Feathers Inn, Aberaeron, about his profligate father’s illicit sale of Ty Quarrel, 1852, J. Bithell of Westminster on the lack of Welsh investmentt in the Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth Railway, 1852, and a letter to Capt. Gwynne of Glanlery, enclosing the resolution of a vestry to extend the road at Borth, 1854. The file also contains a valuation at Rhydypennau, 1853, a copy of an agreement between Pryse Loveden and the commissioners of the Turnpike Trust to widen the road from Aberystwyth to Ponterwyd near Parson’s Mill; and a small number of estate accounts and receipts, 1851-1853.

Original parcel labelled ‘Miss Loveden’s receipts 1833’, comprising bills and receipts, actually dated 1827-1841, mainly for building work, repairs and furnishings at her house in Bridge Street by various Aberystwyth tradesmen including Edward and John Lumley, Lewis Hopkins, William Williams, glazier and painter, and William Jones; some carriage and saddlery repairs; and the salary of William Williams for managing her affairs

‘Montgomeryshire Boroughs Election 1877 Papers’

Papers relating to the election of a member to serve in Parliament for the Borough of Montgomery, 1877, in which the candidates were Charles Stewart Vane-Tempest Viscount Castlereagh and Frederick Stephen Archibald Hanbury-Tracy. The file contains a printed register of persons entitled to vote, listing the boroughs and polling districts of Llanfyllin, Llanidloes, Machynlleth, Montgomery, Newtown and Welshpool, 1877, accompanied by vouchers and bills for election expenses, and letters mainly requesting and acknowledging payments, enclosed in an issue of the Mid-Wales Telegraph & Observer, and Cambrian General Advertiser, 21 July 1877, labelled ‘Election Expenses’

‘Mr Corbet’s mortgage’

Assignment by John Jones of London to Arthur Champness in trust for John Oldbury, of a judgement obtained in 1670 by Henry Rumsey of Dolwyn Eglwys, Cardiganshire, against Henry Vaughan of Gelli-goch, Montgomeryshire, for a debt secured on tenements called Moel y Coed, Ty Braich Ythellgam, and lands called Dolegau and Llechweth Dyrris, subsequently purchased by Humphrey Jones, then by William Corbett of the Middle Temple, 1695.

Papers of William Poole of Peithyll, comprising accounts, bills, receipts and relevant letters, 1829-1837. The bundle inlcudes bills and receipts for building work done at Troedrhiwgwine between 1824 and 1830; William Poole’s accounts with Pryse Pryse for Troedrhiwgwine and Peithyll, 1824-1836, settled in 1837; accounts of rabbit damage at Peithyll, 1826-1827; letters between the agents, Oliver Lloyd of Cardigan and William Williams of Aberystwyth, concerning Poole’s lease, rent arrears and the proposed sale of his property, 1830-1836; and a list of livestock and crops proposed by Poole to assign to Oliver Lloyd as security for his arrears of rent, 1833.

‘Mrs Baily’s Papers’

Letters and papers addressed to Pryse Pryse, labelled ‘Mrs Baily’s Papers’, concerning the application of Katherine E. Baily, widow of Richard Baily of the War Office Department, to the government for financial assistance in view of her husband’s service to the country, 1836-1837. The contents comprise a printed statement of Mrs Baily’s case, 1821, with a copy of a petition to Lord Viscount Melbourne, and letters by Katherine Baily at Aldersgate Street and King’s Bench, concerning the damage to her family’s reputation, her appeal to Lord Euston, naming various other government ministers with an interest in the case; and a reply to her from Pryse’s aunt, J.M. Gill (undated)
