Twenty-eight notebooks and bundles, 1796-1815, consisting of travel journals and agricultural notes relating mainly to Iolo Morganwg's work for the Board of Agriculture in Glamorgan and Carmarthenshire in 1796 and his contribution to Gwallter Mechain's General View of the Agriculture and Domestic Economy of South Wales (London, 1815).
Also included are fragments of tours in parts of England (E5/13); a journal of his tour to North Wales in 1799, collecting materials for the Myvyrian Archaiology (E5/18, formerly 'IAW 144'); bundles of loose agricultural notes (E5/26-27); and geological notes relating to Glamorgan (E5/28).

A composite volume compiled by Owen Williams, Fronheulog, Waunfawr in 1857. It comprises: I. It contains 'cywyddau', 'englynion', 'penillion', 'carolau', etc. by Lewis Owen, Rowland Owen, John Vaughan, William Phylyp, Dafydd Nanmor, Robin Du o fôn, John Owen, Owen Gwynedd, Sion Tydder, Bedo Brwynllysg, Jon. Charles, Bala, 1790, a treatise on angling entitled 'Am Bysgota', an introduction to a text book on music ('Music Soniarus'), incomplete depositions of 'old men' (Hugh Jones etc.) touching the boundaries and rights and liberties of properties in Llan Mowddwy, Merioneth, 1788, household and medical recipes, an anecdote concerning the Prince of Wales (aft. King Edward VII), etc. Inset is a prospectus, 1822, 'For Publishing, by Subscription, in the Welsh Language, a book called The Reformation of Wales; containing the destruction of monasterys and a correct account of several Cambri Britons who suffer'd Martyrdom ... by William Owen' (See William Owen Drych Crefyddol, Lle'rpwll, 1824). Much of the volume was probably compiled during the late 1840's, but there are additions to the early 1870s.

A manuscript consisting largely of transcripts and memoranda by Mary Richards and Thomas Richards of Darowen. The volume appears originally to have been used as an account book of receipts and disbursements in respect of the farms of Llwyn, Cafnmaelen and Byrthlwydd [parish of Dolgellau, Merioneth], 1799-1802, and also to record biographies of [James Crichton, 'The Admirable'], Sir Francis Walsingham, Sir Francis Drake and William Cecil, Lord Burghley. A composite volume comprising two notebooks originally used by the Reverend Thomas Richards (1754-1837) for personal and family memoranda and accounts (mainly 1821-37) of debts, wages paid to female servants, tithes, provisions, payments of interest and repayments of debts. It also includes accounts, 1816-24, between H. L. Eddes Gwynne and the Reverend Thomas Richards relating to Hirnant rents. The volume was subsequently used by Mary Richards, Darowen to record transcripts of letters, mainly between various members of the Richards family but including also letters from R. Silvan Evans containing transcripts of 'cywyddau' and 'awdlau' by Guto'r Glyn, Gutyn Owain, Sion Tudur, Dafydd ap Gwilim, John Rhydderch ('or Amwythig'), Tudur Aled, Lewys Môn, Owain Gwynedd and Wiliam Lleyn; 'Cedymdeithyas Amlyn ac Amic' (from the Red Book of Hergest), with notes and extracts on 'The Legend of the two faithful Brothers', 'englynion', etc. by [Walter Davies] ('Gwallter Mechain'), Hugh Evan ('Hywel o Eryri'), Rowland Hugh ('o'r Graienyn, Bala') and [John Jones] ('Tegid'), occasioned partly by bardic controversies at eisteddfodau held at Corwen and Bala in 1789 (extracted partly from a manuscript of Rowland Hugh); 'Ystoria Charles' (from the Red Book of Hergest); 'Cân am Orthrymderau'r Cymry' by Siencin Lygad Rhawlin (c. 1695) (transcribed 24 June, 1880, from Llanover MS[c]40 i.e. NLW MS 13127, pp. 399-401, and printed in Y Genhinen, 1883, pp 135-6); 'Marwnad y Tri Morwr o Aberporth -- ' by Evan Thomas Rhys; 'Hen ddywediadau neu ddiarhebion Cymreig'; an English translation by Walter Davies ('Gwallter Mechain') of 'Canu i Ddewi' by Gwynfardd Brycheiniog; etc. The spine is lettered 'Gwaith G. A composite volume written almost entirely in the autograph of Evan Prichard ('Ieuan Lleyn' or 'Bardd Bryncroes'; 1769-1832), with some additions by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'). The volume is in two parts, the first part (pp. 1-198) containing poetry mainly by Ieuan Lleyn, with some items also by John Jones, Glan y Gors (beginning wanting), R. Ll. Ddu, Cyllidydd, Pwllheli, 1821, Morrus Dwyfech alias Morrus ab Ifan ab Einion, Owen Gruffydd, Thomas Glyn Llifon, Rich[ar]d Hughes, Cadwaladr Cesail, Sion Roger, D. Drefriw and G. Felyn, y Parchedig Evan Evans 'Ieuan Brydydd Hir', Rod. Jones y Crydd, Dafydd Thomas ('Dafydd Ddu Eryri'), Rhobyn or Bettws [Robert Williams ('Robert ap Gwilym Ddu')], W[illia]m Llyn, W[illia]m Thomas y Llongwr, Ebeneser Tomas neu Cybi Eifion, [David Owen] 'Dewi Wyn', and [John Roberts ] 'S[ion] Lleyn'. Other items in the first part include a draft of a letter, undated, from Evan Pr[ichard] [i.e. 'Ieuan Lleyn'] to an unnamed correspondent (p. 89) (a request for [the mastership of] the free school belonging to the parishes of Rhiw, Bryncroes, Aberdaron and Llanfaelrhys if W[illia]m Owen is turned out), a (?)copy of a letter, 1791, from Ieuan Rich[ar]d, Ty Mawr to an unnamed correspondent whom he addresses as 'Enwog Fardd' (p. 95) (he was unable to attend the Eisteddfod held at Llanrwst; verse in strict and free metre), a (?)translation of a speech by Mr Hodgins [sic], an operative cotton spinner, respecting the Combination Laws, and a speech in Welsh on freedom ('From Walter Davies's Essay [Rhyddid (1791) ]'). The pages following (i.e. 191-8) appear to be in the autograph of John Roberts ('Siôn Lleyn'). Between part I and part II are some items (press cuttings, poetry, etc.) inserted by John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd'), including 'Gwaith Siarl Marc'. Preceding a number of blank pages are two letters from Ieuan Lleyn to Siôn Lleyn, the one undated (?copy), the other written in 1791 from Ty Mawr to Mr John Roberts at Rhyd y clafrdy, Lleyn, containing lines in the 'cywydd' metre by 'Ieuan Fardd Bryncroes' (another of the bardic names used by Ieuan Lleyn). Part II is in three sections, the first consisting of 90 pp. and containing poetry by Gronwy Ddu o Fôn, Robert ab Gwilym [Robert Williams ('Robert ap Gwilym Ddu')], Llanystumdwy, Hywel ab Reinallt, Hywel ab Daf. ab Ieuan ab Rhys, W[illia]m Lleyn, Rhys Llwyd ab Rhys ab Ricart, Deio ab Ieuan Du, Tudur Aled, H. ab O. Gwynedd, John Fychan o Gaergai, Thomas Llwyd or penman, M.D.(qr. This section was written c. 1797-99 at Llangian and at Llanddeiniolen, where it was completed 31 May 1799 (p.90). Part IIb comprises 38 pp. and contains poetry by Ieuan Lleyn, Huw Ifan Gynt o Lanllyfni alias Hywel Eryri, y Parchedig Evan Evans alias Ieuan y Prydydd hir and W[illiam Evans or Fedw arian, preceded by a list of contents. The final section (pp. 11-54) contains poetry by Siôn Dafydd Laes (John Davies alias Penllyn), Lewis Owain o Dyddyn y Garreg, Syr Rhys or Drewenn, Gutto Glynn, S[ion] Tud[ur], D. Gwilym [Dafydd ap Gwilym], Griffith Philyp 'o Ardudwy y' Meirion', Daf[y]dd Thomas alias Daf[y]dd Ddu or Eryri, Ieuan Deulwyn 'o blwyf Pendeulwyn Gerllaw Cydweli Caerfyrddin', Lewis Glyn cothi, Thomas Prys P[la]s Iolyn, Tomas Derllys 'am a wn i' and Rhys Ednyfed, followed by a sketch of a ship ('Debora'), verses entitled 'Brynau [sic] Iwerddon', etc. and 'Sylwiadau ar Wneuthyriad Dyn'. A notebook in the hand of J. H. Davies containing an alphabetical index of first lines of poetry by Huw Morys published in W[alter] D[avies] ['Gwallter Mechain'], Eos Ceiriog (Wrexham, 1823), with a few subsequent additions from Cwrtmawr MSS 222, 224 and from Carolau a Dyriau Duwiol ([Shrewsbury] 1696).

A notebook written in pencil by Edward Williams, 'Iolo Morganwg', and containing an account of his journey from London to Merthyr, 29 May - (?) 24 June 1802. A few of the pages are now very indistinct and almost illegible. The places mentioned include Tatsworth, Oxford, Woodstock, Enstone, Long Compton and Rollright circle, Tidmanton, Alderminster, Stratford upon Avon, Wooton [sic], Henly [sic], Birmingham, Bromwich, Westbury, Bilston, Wolverhampton, Tettenhall, Shiffnal [sic], Madley ? [Madeley], Colebrook Dale, Buildwas, Hatcham, Salop (Shrewsbury), Crew Green, Meivod, Llanfair, Newtown, Ceri, Felindre, Bugeildy, Llanfair Waterdine, Knighton, Norton, Presteign, New Radnor, Old Radnor, Glasdre [? Gladestry], Pain's Castle, Clirow, Hay, Glasbury, Llyswen, Capel (y) ffin, and Brecon. Among the individuals briefly mentioned are the Reverend Walter Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'], curate of Meifod, with whom, 14 June, Iolo Morganwg sets out on a survey of South Wales, Mr. Weyman 'at Griffin Ffloyd', Mr. Richard Williams of the Duke's Arms, Knighton, Thos. Grove, Esqr., of Cwm Elen, and Mr. [ ] Morgan, wool-stapler, of Knighton. There are also some notes on the Vale of Glamorgan, including an air, and hymn stanzas, e.g. 'Rhodio gyda Duw'.
