The miscellaneous estates either had connections with Wynnstay or Gwydir but did not form part of the main estates, or they refer to non-Wynnstay lands. The abodes of the parties are generally in the parish to which the file relates, unless otherwise stated.

Election papers

Papers deriving from elections in Denbighshire, 1868, and in Montgomeryshire, Merioneth and miscellanous counties, 1813-1877. The papers from the Denbighshire election of 1868 include two good series of poll books and clerks’ check books, and a substantial file of vouchers, bills and correspondence, 1868-1869. The Montgomeryshire section contains papers from lawsuit of 1863 relating to the parliamentary election of 1862; and an electoral register of 1877.

Legal papers

Legal papers from the office of Longueville and Co. comprising miscellaneous documents resulting from the routine administrative work carried out by the solicitors on behalf of the Wynnstay estate, 1782-1925; and papers deriving from lawsuits mainly about trespass and property disputes involving members of the Williams Wynn family, [c. 1817]-1904. Notable items include an eighteenth century account book for the Court of Great Sessions, Merioneth, 1782-1784, and substantial papers from a lawsuit concerning trespasses at Moelfre Pool, Llansilin, in the manor of Cynllaith Owain (Watermark 1836)-1884.

Estate letters

Loose letters and other associated papers, 1777-1948; and 15 volumes containing outgoing letters from the office of Longueville and Co. relating to the Wynnstay estate which was one of their major clients, 1928-1957. Many of the letters concern purchases, sales and exchanges of land in Denbighshire, Montgomeryshire, Merioneth and Salop, and they incidentally provide a record of contemporary conveyancing practices. Other recurrent topics include the Williams Wynn family settlements and trusts; the development of the railways; mining and mineral rights; fee farm rents and chief rents. The letter books provide a record of the Wynnstay estate in financial decline during the first half of the twentieth century, referring to the sales of land for housing development and the provision of local amenities. They also show how life on the estate was affected by defence regulations, requisitioning and evacuation during the Second World War.

Estate administration records

Records from the office of Longueville and Co. relating to the administration of the Wynnstay estates, which supplement those in the main part of the Wynnstay catalogue. They comprise particulars and rentals (Watermark 1857)-[post1882]; leases, tenancy agreements and other papers relating to tenancies, 1815-1892; fishing and shooting papers, 1877-1928; tramway and railway agreements, 1878-1891; a petition and Act concerning Liverpool Corporation water supply, 1880-1893; applications for estate improvements under the Settled Land Acts, 1887-1905; mining and quarrying papers, 1814-1886; and a miscellaneous series consisting of one file each for enclosure, manorial and taxation records, 1858-1886.

Financial papers

Financial papers of the Wynnstay estate comprising mortgages and related papers, 1770-1921; accounts of Sir Watkin Williams Wynn, sixth Baronet Wynnstay, and his trustees, 1844-1886; and financial reports of companies offering investment opportunities, together with miscellaneous other papers, 1870-1880.

Deeds and documents

The deeds and related documents appear to fall naturally into three main groups. Firstly there are the deeds and financial papers for land purchases in Montgomeryshire by Charles Watkin Williams Wynn, which were found as a physically discrete group in the archive, 1582-1853; secondly there are deeds relating to various property purchases and exchanges made by the Wynnstay estate in Caernarfonshire, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Merioneth, Montgomeryshire and Salop, [1782]-1945; and thirdly, conveyances, particulars, conditions of sale, abstracts of title, etc. recording extensive land sales by the Wynnstay estate, [1771]x1938.

Settlements, trusts, abstracts of title and probate records

Papers relating mainly to the inheritance and settlement of the Wynnstay estates belonging to the Williams Wynn, comprising marriage settlements, various family trust papers and abstracts of title, 1771-1933, and an inventory of the Wynnstay settled chattels [1948]. A separate series describes the Williams Wynn family probate records, 1710-1924. Both series contain a large amount of information, in the main content of the deeds and in the recitals, about the individuals concerned, the other families into which they married, their trustees, the operation of the trusts, investments in land purchases and the purchase of stocks and shares, in accordance with the terms of the trusts. A further series describes a small number of non-Wynnstay trusts, 1846-1881.
