Papers of the late Lily F. Chitty, OBE, MA, FSA, Pontesbury, Shropshire, relating mainly to her work in indexing Archaeologia Cambrensis, 1846-1900. Included are a typescript copy, in two volumes, of the index compiled; 4 notebooks, 2 log books, and a petty cash book, 1932-50, relating to the compilation of the work; a box file containing notes and correspondence and a file of correspondence, 1931-64, relating to the Index Committee which had been set up, the correspondents including Sir John Edward Lloyd, Sir Cyril Fox, H. J. Randall, T. Jones Pierce, T. E. Morris, J. D. K. Lloyd, V. E. Nash-Williams, and Willoughby Gardner. Also included are notebooks relating to Cambrian Archaeological Association meetings, 1952-5, 1962-7; personal correspondence and photographs, 1951-77; and various offprints, etc.

Additional papers consisting of First World War Honourable Discharge Certificates (right half only) found amongst the estate of Lily Frances Chitty, sister-in-law of Mary Derwas Chitty (née Kitson Clark), and transferred to the donor by the latter's daughter, Anna Georgina Chitty. Also included is research, compiled by Barbara Reardon, on the individuals named in the certificates; July 2023.

W. Wynn, 1820, composed in a field near Wrexham; transcripts by 'Erfyl', including the 'Substance of a Sermon preached at the Baptist Chapel in Oswestry, on Sunday, August 13th, 1815. By the Revd. J. Palmer of Shrewsb[ur]y', a translation (copied at Whittington, 1814) of a petition to Governor [Warren] Hastings by the wife of Almas-ali-can 'who was seized upon and put to death for political purposes in India', and extracts from printed sources relating to Bangor, Tegeingl, etc.; a draft in the hand of Richard Llwyd, 'Bard of Snowdon', relating to the slave trade; a short-title list of Welsh periodicals ('Rhwydd Restr o Gyhoeddiadau Cym[r]aeg a Chymreig Amseriadol') in the hand of Robert Davies, Llansannan; and holograph poetry by Robert Ellis ('Cynddelw'), John Jones ('Myllin'), Thomas Edwards ('Caerfallwch'), and John Owen, Liverpool (1835) (awarded the prize at the Holywell Eisteddfod, 1834), etc.

Manuscript, typescript and traditional printed material created as part of the interdisciplinary Layers in the Landscape project, which applied the concept of deep mapping to the submerged landscape of Cardigan Bay, and in particular the submerged forest at Borth. The papers relate especially to the theoretical side of the project (notably the geomythology of Cardigan Bay and the relationship between poetry and archaeology in the 'King of the Sea Trees' poem), as well as the 'Borth's lost legends' exhibition at Borth Station Museum.

A note on f. 8 states that 'Cerdd yn dangos meddyliau Morwyn Ieuangc ddydd ei phriodas' (ff. 8-10) was published in London in 1797 but there are no known copies extant. A further poem [?in a different hand] is on ff. 128 verso-129. Items found loose at the beginning of the volume have been tipped in on ff. i-iv; these include a list of contents of the manuscript (f. i), a printed elegy for William Owen Pughe by John Jones (Tegid), 1836 (f. iii), and a series of englynion by Siôn ap Morgan (f. iv).
