A volume in the hand of Evan Evans (Ieuan Fardd) containing pedigrees of Cardiganshire gentry families (pp. 1-136), together with a few from Carmarthenshire (pp. 137-163) and Pembrokeshire (pp. 164-179).

A book of extracts

A manuscript containing various extracts, with copious information concerning their souces. The extracts include material from Henry Salesbury's Grammar as printed by T. Salesbury in 1593 (pp. 55-70) and extracts from Greek, Latin and English writers (pp. 71-110); the manuscript also contains a copy of a letter from Sir William Boswell to Archbishop William Laud taken from the Cotton MSS (p. 34); an account of Edmwnd Prys (p. 133); and an account of Edward Richard of Ystrad Meurig (pp. 134-136).

Extracts, &c.

A volume in the hand of Ieuan Fardd containing transcripts from the White Book of Hergest (pp. 83-113), 'the Book of Gildas at Margam Abbey', and the Extent of Powysland (temp. Richard II) (pp. 69-72). The volume also contains a poem by Guto'r Glyn dedicated to Sir Roger Kynaston which was translated into English by William Maurice in 1672 (pp. 25-44); a list of those who bear arms in Wales, arranged alphabetically with a brief description of the arms after each name (p. 45); and a copy of an indenture, 2 April 13 Eliz., between Robert Earl of Leicester and Ieuan ap Lewis Lloyd (p. 73); etc.
The 'Dream of Maxen' (pp. 1-24) appears to have been copied directly from Peniarth MS 16.

A manuscript in the hand of Ieuan Fardd containing translations of the songs of Llywarch Hên, with accompanying notes (pp. 5-19); notes on Welsh and Shropshire place-names, some taken from the work of Robert Vaughan, Hengwrt (pp. 19-36); 'Extracts apparently from the English Chronicle' (pp. 37-44); parallel quotations from Llywarch Hen and Shakespeare (pp. 45-46); a translation of Cynddelw's 'Song of Eva daughter of Madawc the son of Maredudd' (pp. 55-56); an index to the Red Book of Hergest (pp. 57-74); a Welsh-English vocabulary, dating from 1542 (pp. 75-128); and a list of Welsh words compared with allied forms in Latin, Gothic, etc. (pp. 129-133).

Poetry

A manuscript in the hand of Evan Evans containing poetry mostly derived, indirectly, from the Black Book of Carmarthen (Peniarth MS 1) and the Red Book of Hergest (Oxford, Jesus College MS 111). A table of contents, in a later hand, is on pp. 179-180.
This transcript was adopted by the editors of the Myvyrian Archaiology of Wales for their text or for their notes.

A manuscript in the autograph of Evan Evans (Ieuan Fardd) containing 'The Five Royal Tribes of Wales' (pp. 1-41); an extract from 'Llyfr Achau Guttyn Owain' (pp. 42-43); 'Sketches of British Etymology' (pp. 45-57); and the titles of Breton works (pp. 59-63).

Three copybooks, in the autograph of Evan Evans (Ieuan Fardd), containing a copy of Sir John Price's The Description of Wales (Oxford, 1673) (NLW MS 2017iB); the Officium Beatæ Mariæ in Welsh from a copy made by Dafydd Ddu Hiraddug (NLW MS 2017iiB, pp. 1-30); extracts from the library of Thomas Tanner (NLW MS 2017iiB, pp. 31-43); and material relating to Gerald of Wales taken from John Leland (NLW MS 2017iiiB).

Poetry and feasts

A manuscript in the hand of Evan Evans, containing mainly poetry by Bleddyn Fardd, Lewis Glyn Cothi, Goronwy Owen and others (ff. 1-49, 56-62); and a list of feast days (ff. 50-55).
This manuscript was used for the Myvyrian Archaiology of Wales, partly for text and partly for variant notes. Peniarth MS 111 seems to be the original of this manuscript. A note on f. 12 states 'Hyd yma ym tyb i yr yscrifennodd Roesser Morys allan or Llyfr Du o Gaer Vyrddin'.

A manuscript containing 'A Short View of the Long Life of Sir Rice [Rhys] ap Thomas K.G.'. The text of this manuscript is fuller and more correct than that printed in the Cambrian Register, 1 (1795), pp. 49-144, but breaks off with the appointment of Sir Rice ap Thomas as Justiciar of South Wales (pp. i-xviii, 1-139, 145-151).
There are marginalia giving, here and there, references to original documents. There is also a continuation to the manuscript by Evan Evans (pp. 139-144, 152-159), who states: 'There was another chapter of this curious history as appears by a shred of a leaf still remaining of the Author's autograph ... I have collated this MS. [i.e. 2038D] carefully with the Author's MS. which I am sorry to say is imperfect' (p. 158).
