A scrap-book of John Jones ('Myrddin Fardd') lettered 'Cadw mi gei'. The manuscript items include a list in the hand of 'Myrddin Fardd' of family mottoes of North Wales interest; English translations by Henry W[illia]m Hewlett, 34 Great James Street, Bedford Row [London], c.1827-8, and Welsh translations by 'Myrddin Fardd', c. 1876-8, of public records relating to Pwllheli and Criccieth; glossaries by 'Myrddin Fardd' of Welsh words (e.g. obscure words, flower names); an explanatory list by 'Myrddin Fardd' of Caernarvonshire place-names; entries by 'Myrddin Fardd' of sales by him of manuscripts to D. G. Goodwin, Salop, 1893, and to J. H. Davies, Cwrt Mawr, 1899-1900; entries by 'Myrddin Fardd' of births, deaths and burials of members of his family; and a holograph 'englyn' ('Beddargraff Owen Jones (Manoethwy)') by E[llis] O[wen], Cefnymeusydd, 1866. The press cuttings cover a wide range of Welsh literary and antiquarian interests and include portraits of Welsh celebrities, prospectuses and reviews of publications by 'Myrddin Fardd', prospectuses of Arwest Farddol Glan Geirionydd, 1880, 1888-9, fragments of Y Beibl Cyssegr-Lan (1588), being the first complete Welsh translation of the Bible (with notes by 'Myrddin Fardd' on the disposal of two copies of this edition of the Bible once in his possession), etc. The volume is numbered '1' on the upper cover and on the upper end-paper.

A miscellany entitled 'Blwch Manion', largely of the period 1855-9, in the hand of Enoch Williams ('Llithrig Arfon'), tailor, Llanrwst. It contains strict- and free-metre poetry by the scribe and others; a copy of part of a letter from the scribe's brother, W. E. Williams, Trenton, New Jersey, to his uncle Richard Jones [Capel Curig], [18]56 (the writer's reminiscences of Capel Curig, the writer's church membership); the scribe's wages accounts and tailoring measurements; memoranda relating to eisteddfodau; an essay on 'Manteision Gwybodaeth'; an extensive collection of Welsh proverbs; etc. The titles of the poems include 'Englyn i Glogwyn yr Ogo. ger Llanrwst', 'Llinellau Ar farwolaeth Miss Margaret Jones, merch Mr R. Jones, Tuhwnt-i'r-Bont, Llanrwst. Bu farw Hytraf [sic] 31 1853', 'Englyn i Mari fy ngwraig', 'Englyn o anerchiad i aelodau y gymdaethas [sic] lenyddol yn Llanrwst', 'Englynion beddargraff....' The manuscript also includes memoranda correspondence, 1863-5, between David Evans, William Morris ('Gwilym Tawe'), secretary of Swansea [National] Eisteddfod (1863), [Morris Williams] ('Nicander'), and John Griffiths, rector of Neath, relating to the inability of David Evans to recover a 'Casgliad ... o Draddodiadau Gwirebau a Diarhebion Cymreig' submitted for competition at the Swansea Eisteddfod; and a catechism or play entitled 'Gwyddorydd neu Holwyddoreg Anudonaidd. A holwyd ac a Attebwyd yn ysgoldy Gonestrwydd Ar ol Alban Hefin'. Inset are a photograph of David Evans and his memorial card, 1883 (died 4 August, buried 8 August).

Files 1-3: Transcripts of letters by Lewis and Richard Morris, mainly to Evan Evans ('Ieuan Fardd') and Dafydd Jones of Trefriw, almost all published in Hugh Owen (ed.), Additional Letters of the Morrises of Anglesey (1735-1786), Y Cymmrodor, Vol. XLIX, 1947-9, the remainder published in G. J. Williams (gol.) Llythyrau at Ddafydd Jones o Drefriw. Cylchgrawn Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru. Atodiad. Cyfres III, Rhif 2 (1942), and J. H. Davies (ed.), The Letters of Lewis, Richard, William and John Morris of Anglesey (Morrisiaid Mon) (Aberystwyth, 1907-9). The original letters or copies from which these copies were transcribed are in the British Museum (Add MSS 14929, 15021, 15024, 15029) and the National Library of Wales (mainly Panton 74 and NLW MS 476). There is also a transcript of a letter from the Reverend Thomas Ellis, Holyhead to the Reverend Humphrey Owen and the Reverend J. Hoare, 1742 (the original letter is preserved in NLW MS 478), and a copy of Evan Evans's elegy to Lewis Morris, with notes on the text. File 4: Transcripts of letters from Edward Richard, Ystrad Meurig, c. 1759-1766, to Evan Evans ('Ieuan Fardd'). There are also copies of two short letters to Evan Evans from Roderick Lewis, Trefeglwys, and William Howell, Llanidloes, which were written on the same sheet as Edward Richard's letter of 1 March 1766. The original letters are preserved in NLW MS Panton 74. A transcript of a letter from Edward Richard, 1766, to Richard Morris (from BM Add MS 15025), and extracts from letters from Edward Richard to Lewis Morris, 1759 and undated (from BM Add MS 15029). A holograph letter from Edward Richard, Ystradmeuryg, 1762, to Lewis Morris, Penbryn (published in Hugh Owen, op. cit. Part II, pp. 562-3). File 5: A holograph letter from [the Reverend] W[illiam] Davies, Llanwryn [Montgomeryshire], 1710, to Henry Newman at the Reverend Mr Shute's in Bartlet's Buildings, London (receipt of letter and a packet from the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, subscriptions from other parishes, has partly prevailed with a certain minister to become a corresponding member). The letter bears the number 2381 (see Mary Clement (ed.), Correspondence and minutes of the S.P.C.K. relating to Wales 1699-1740 (Cardiff, 1952), p. 35. Abstract No. 2381). The letters are addressed to John Roberts ('Sion Lleyn'), Pwllheli (4), 1791-1806 (corrections to addressee's poetry, tributes to writer's brother, Humphrey, after his death, some short poetical compositions by the writer), to Griffith Williams ('Gutyn Peris'), Llandygai (8), 1799-1819, (poetry, subjects upon which writer desired addressee to compose hymns, meetings of bards and eisteddfodau, comments and news of contemporary poets, writer's health and work), and one letter, addressee not named, 1804, (addressee's poetry which writer had received, desires addressee to render 2 Samuel XXII in strict metres and to ask other poets to do the same). The poetry includes verses entitled 'Y Cynauaf mawr diweddaf' subscribed 'D. T. a'i cant allan o'r Saesneg ar ddymuniad John Jones Llandwrog Medi 10d 1804 (cf. 'Ode to Charity', a translation into English [by Ebenezer Thomas ('Eben Fardd')] of the 'awdl' on the subject 'Elusengarwch' by David Owen ('Dewi Wyn o Eifion'). The translator's name is not given but a note at the top of the first page reads 'Rec'd a Sovereign from J. Maughan Esqr. for Translating this'. There are some notes and emendations in pencil in another hand. On the last page, following the translation, are thirty-eight lines of an elegy in Welsh, (?) incomplete, on the death of [Frederick, Duke of York]. Pasted in at the beginning is a press cutting headed 'Darlith i'r Saeson. Araeth Mr Lloyd George. Bywyd a Barddoniaeth Cymru' giving an account of an address Lloyd George gave as chairman of a concert at Llanystumdwy.

An album compiled by John Lloyd James ('Clwydwenfro'), Congregational minister at March, Cambridgeshire, etc. The volume is almost wholly of Congregational interest, and relates for the most part to Glandwr Church, Pembrokeshire, and to the activities of John Davies ('Siôn Gymro' otherwise 'Siôn Llethi' otherwise 'Ioan Llethi'), who was ordained minister of the church in 1827. Transcripts and English translations by William Owen [- Pughe] of the 'Mabinogion' and other medieval prose texts, together with a few miscellaneous items. Most of the transcripts appear to have been made between 1826 and 1831, and the complete work was prepared for the press in 1834 but never published. The material comprises: (a) 'Math ab Mathonwy' (1805); (b) In three series, I 'Pwyll' (two copies, one incomplete), 'Bran the Blessed' [= 'Branwen ferch Llyr'], 'Manawydan', 'Math', II 'Culhwch' (see also N.LW MS 13232E, item 26), 'Peredur', 'Geraint fab Erbin', III 'Iarlles y Ffynnon', 'Breuddwyd Macsen', 'Breuddwyd Rhonabwy', 'Lludd a Llefelys'; (c ) 'Lludd a Llefelys', 'Iarlles y Ffynnon', 'Breuddwyd Rhonabwy', 'Saith Doethion Rhufain', an introduction to the prose texts, 'Trioedd', a discussion of Welsh poetry between 540 A.D. and 1600; (d) a file containing miscellaneous papers: pp. 11-44, notes on numismatics, pp. 45- 53 nine sketches by William Owen [-Pughe] (one in pencil and eight pen and wash) of scenes from the 'Mabinogion', possibly intended to illustrate the artist's translation, p. 54, a printed notice in which William Owen [- Pughe] requests that his name be inserted in the list of voters for co. Denbigh, 1832, and p. 55, a broadside containing Marwnad Evan Thomas, o D' wysog, ym Mhlwyf Henllan; A Gladdwyd yn Nantglyn, ger llaw Dinbych, 1801 by T.E. [?Thomas Edwards, 'Twm o'r Nant'] (Caerlleon: W. C. Jones, n.d.), etc. The following note is to be found on p. 124 of item (c)1 above: 'Gorphenwn hyn, ganoldydd Llun, Myhevin 11. 1827 yn Athrova Iesu, Rhydyçain: y vi yno, pan oedd Aneurin yn çwiliaw cysysgriv [sic] o gyvreithiau Hywel Dda yno', which suggests that the transcript was made from 'Llyfr Coch Hergest'.

A bundle of notebooks containing poetry mainly by Owen Lloyd which Sir Owen M. Edwards received from T. C. Jones ('Alonydd'), Liverpool. They contain miscellaneous 'englynion'; 'Rhiangerdd' composed for the Cemaes, Anglesey, Eisteddfod, 1870; 'pryddest: Crefydd, sef testyn cadair Eisteddfod Gadeiriol Eryri, 1879'; an elegy upon the death of Thomas Aubrey by Owen Lloyd; 'Pryddest: Marwolaeth Samson', 1872 'Pryddest: Rhyfeloedd y Groes'; verses: 'Melys yw hun y gweithiwr', 1872; 'Pryddest: Y Beibl'; 'awdl: Ffrwyth myfyrdod ar wlad Canan'; and a fragment of a poem entitled 'Elias ar ben Carmel'.

Transcripts by Owen M. Edwards and another of 'cywyddau' by John Cent, John Vaughan o Gairgai, William Phylip, William Wynn, Rowland Hugh, Thomas Prys, and Dafydd Llwyd ap Llywelyn ap Gruffudd (Dafydd Llwyd, Mathafarn); and 'englynion' and an elegy by Thomas Edwards ('Dochan Fardd').

A miscellaneous collection of poetry including an incomplete 'pryddest' on the story of Kulhwch and Olwen written on the backs of sheets of a Birkenhead list of voters, 1876; a carol by D[avid] Lewis ('Ap Ceredigion'); a poem entitled 'Sion fy Nhaid' and a hymn by Henry Rowlands ('Henri Myllin'); a poem entitled 'Trefaldwyn' by J. R. Williams ('Tryfanwy'); poems entitled 'Gwlaw Sdiniog' and 'Cyfrinach y Tannau' by Robert Roberts ('Isallt'); an elegy on the death of Evan E. Owen, Assheton House, Ebenezer, 1883; a fragment of a song entitled 'Priodas yr Oen'; 'englynion' on Pont y Benglog taken from Tywysog Cymru, 15 Tach. 1832; English poems entitled 'The Burial of Abel', 'America', and 'Go Forward'; and selections from the writings of Rhys J. Huws written on the back of circulars relating to his Testimonial Fund, 1917.
