Llyfr Dolwar Fach, a volume of Welsh poetry.

A volume of transcripts by D. Pryse Williams, Troedyraur, of printed poetry by, and relating to, Peter Williams (1723-96), Gellilednais, Llandyfaelog. The titles include Cywydd [sic] o Goffadwriaeth, Ar Farwolaeth y Parchedig Mr. William Davies, o Gastell-Nedd, A Fu Farw y 17 o Awst, 1787; ... Two volumes entitled 'Llyfr o Hen Ganeuon wedi eu cyfansoddi ers 200 mlynedd. 1900'. The volumes are in the hand of J. H. Davies and contain transcripts, with annotations and collations, of 'carolau', 'cerddi', 'dyrïau', 'englynion' and 'awdlau' from the Welsh School and Cymmrodorion groups of manuscripts in the British Museum Additional Collection (MSS 14866-15089). A volume entitled 'Gweithiau Lewis Morris. Llywelyn Ddu o Fôn', being transcripts and extracts made by J. H. Davies, c. 1902, from manuscripts in the British Museum and the National Library of Wales. The collection also contains poetry in strict and free metres by Sion Tomas Owen ('y Gwehydd o Fodedern'), Michael Prichard ('mab chochydd [sic] Llanllyfni'), Sion Rhydderch, Rhist. Roberts ('clochydd Llanddeusant'), Huw Huws ('o Lwydiarth Esgob ym Mon'), and W. Rhydderch, and Tudur Penllyn; the Earl Roland tale from the Red Book of Hergest, and other extracts; a list of poets whose works are represented in the Red Book of Hergest and a list of contents of the manuscript; a note on the text of 'Monachlog yr Yspryd Glan'; a calendar of a text of the laws of Hywel Dda in MS 45 in All Souls Library, Oxford; extracts, 1760, relating to the parishes of Llangeitho and Nantgwnlle from the episcopal acts of the diocese of St Davids in NLW Add. MS 25; extracts from the vestry book of the parish of Llangeitho, 1757-77; an abstract of the trust deed of [Llangeitho] meeting-house, 1770; extracts from Phillip Dafydd: Marwnad y Parchedig Mr D. A volume containing two collections of transcripts of poetry, with copious annotations, in the hand of Owen Williams ('Owain Gwyrfai'), Waunfawr. The first collection, entitled 'Llwyn y Gell', includes 'cywyddau', etc. by Gruff. The sources used by the scribe for his transcripts of poems include 'L[l]yfr ysgrif Eiddo Mr. Owen Roberts gynt o Bentraeth Mon', 'L[l]yfrau Owen Gruffydd Llanystumdwy', and '[L]lyfrau M.S. pwdredig eiddo Mr. Jonathan Jones, Colector of Carnarfon 1855'. At the beginning is a list of poets whose titles were taken from Y Greal and a list of titles of poems transcribed in full. The collection was compiled during the period 1855-9, although the fly-leaf bears the scribe's name dated 1863. The second collection, beginning at the end, is entitled 'Y Gell Gynen, ('herwydd canau cynen sydd ynddo') and contains fliting poems ('ymrysongerddi') between Edmwnt Prys and William Cynwal and Sion Philip and Edmunt Prys, together with additional 'cywyddau' by Edmunt Prys. This section of the manuscript was compiled between 1844 and 1846, but there are some additions of the period 1859-61. Recorded on the upper end paper are timber purchase accounts of Owen Williams, 1844-5. The manuscript is lettered on the spine 'Owain Gwyrfai MS'.

An imperfect manuscript of 'cerddi' and 'carolau' of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, probably written for the most part by Jenkin David, Cmarch [sic], David Jones, and Evan David, Glaslwyn. The collection was compiled around the period 1765-6. The majority of the poems are anonymous, but the names of the following authors have been recorded, some in the last lines of the compositions: William Nicholas (pp. 4, 48), Thomas John (p. 16), Sion Havart (p. 41), Evan Evans ('o fydwellty yn Sir Feirionydd', p. 60), Evan Griffith (p. 74), Sion Dafydd Sion (p. 82), John Evan ab Evan, 1746 (p. 91), John David John ('o bant y moch mowr yn Llandisil (1631), p. 109). At the end of the volume are blacksmith's and other accounts from the Llandysul area, 1778 and undated, and a list of money gifts entitled 'The names of mens on my Mitting Day' (pp. 141-144). Beginning at the end is a 'halsing', 1722.

A religious treatise (v + 213 pp.) entitled 'Elw Mawr am Boen Fechan. Neu Gyfarwyddyd i gael Bodlonrwydd', followed by a list of chapter divisions ('Tabl o'r Cynhwysiad'). The work was completed 27 May 1707. Preceding the text is a series of nine complimentary verses entitled 'Englynnion o Barch a Chanmoliaeth i'r Llyfr a elwir Elw mawr am Boen Fechan' by 'C. G.', 30 May 1707, and at the end is an 'englyn' on 'Bodlonrwydd' in a later hand by 'Dafydd ap Tywyn'. There is at the beginning a page partly in the hand of the Reverend John Jones, Tyn'llwyn, Car[ ] containing entries of the burial [at Llanarmon Mynydd Mawr], 9 [5 in bishop's transcripts] February 1808, of Edward Maurice Plas yn Glynn ('fy haen Gyfaill'), and of the birth, 27 December, and baptism at Llanarmon Mynydd Mawr, 29 December, of Edwd. Maurice, grandson of the said Edward Maurice.

A volume labelled 'Llyfr Cerddi William Morgan', being a collection largely of poetry compiled during the late seventeenth and early eighteenth century by William Morgan (died 1728), Plassegwynio[n], Llanymawddwy, Merioneth. It contains 'Yr Eisteddfod ynghaerwys ... y 26 o fis May yn y nawfed flwyddyn o deyrnasiad y fre[n]hines Elizabeth ...' Morris - II', being a collection of 'cerddi', 'englynion', etc. by Thomas Edwards ['Twm o'r Nant'], Hugh Jones ('o Langwm'), Dafydd Jones ('neu'n Gyffredyn y tailiwr hir') and Hugh Morris ('yr Englyn diwaetha medd rhai Ag nid annhebig a wnaeth ...'), and anonymous poems. There are copious marginal entries which are entirely irrelevant to the text.

An imperfect late seventeenth and early eighteenth century commonplace book of Howell Tanat (Tanatt, Tannat, Tannatt), Trewylan Isa, Llansanffraid-ym-Mechain, Montgomeryshire. It contains poetry in free metres by Oliver Rogers, Humfrey Dauyd ap Ivan, William Philips, Rolant Voughan [sic], Howell Tanatt, Edward Rolant and Hugh Moris, and anonymous poems; English verses; accounts, 1685-1707 and undated (household, farm, payments to craftsmen, assessments of lewns in Llansantffraid and Llandysilio, etc.); short depositions touching a suit in the Court of Chancery relating to Robt. Kinaston [of Trewylan Ganol, Llansanffraid-ym-Mechain] containing references to a plot and the keeping of a Jesuit priest; household and medical recipes; an incomplete dictionary of English phrases with their Latin equivalents; scriptural notes; a prayer; etc.

A manuscript of the third quarter of the eighteenth century largely in the hand of Richard Foulke of Penygraig [parish of Llansilin]. It contains 'cerddi', 'Ymddiddanion', 'carolau', 'dyriau', etc. by Hugh Morris, Humphre Ralph ('Gwas Mr. Richards Person Llanvyllin, 1756), Jonathan Hughes, Edward Rowland, Arthur Jones (1758), Hugh Jones ('o Langwm'), John Richard ('or bryn côch') (poem torn away), John Griffiths (1757), Evan Arthur, William Philip, Gruffudd Phylip, Robert Edward Lewis ('o Gwm Mynach'), Matthew Owen and Rowland Vaughan ('o Gaer-gai, Esquire'), and anonymous poems; 'englynion' and 'cywyddau' by Ed[ward] Morris, Hugh Morris, Moris ap Robert ('o'r Bala'), Hugh Llyn and Jonathan Hughes; and a prayer entitled 'Gweddi cyn mynd i Gysgu ... Dyma yr weddi y bydde yr hen Richard Foulke o Rhiwlas taid Richard Foulke o Benygraig; ar taid yma ai Gwnaeth'.

A collection of 'cerddi', 'carolau', etc. by Hugh Morris, together with a 'cerdd' by Huw Jones, Llangwm, a 'cerdd' by the Reverend Walter Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'], anonymous 'englynion, 'carolau' and some financial accounts, 1805 and undated. The volume is in the hand of Huw Jones, Llangwm, with a few later additions by Elizabeth Maurice and by Mary Richards, Darowen. It belonged to Thomas Powel, 1804, and Martha Powel, 1805, and also bears the names of Henry Powel, 1756, John Jones, carpenter, Pentregayr [Oswestry] and Martha Edwards.

A mid-eighteenth century collection of 'cerddi', 'ymddiddanion', etc. by H[uw] M[orys], together with a few poems by Thomas Edwards ['Twm o'r Nant'], Dav[id] Shadrach, David Thomas ('o sir Garen[ar]fon') Thos. Jones (Maes y Cernddi 'in Cowny' [sic]), and anonymous poems, farm accounts and memoranda, 1773-6, and a veterinary recipe. The volume is written in three main hands, of which the third is that of Dav[id] Shadrach.
