Much Wenlock collection

The collection comprises property in p. Much Wenlock, t. Stanwardine [p. Baschurch], and Oswestry, Shropshire. However, in RA2 & RA3 (1552/3 and 1580), several place-names are mentioned including the following: Weston Oxenbold, Shipton, Burton, Sturchley, Deuxhill, Sutton, Madeley, Presthope, Lushcot, Hatton, Stoke St Milborough, Downton, More, Caughley, Acton Round, Harley, Wigwig, Benthall, Posenhall, Atterley, Walton and Wyke, all in Shropshire. RA4 (1581) contains a rental of lands belonging to the Chantry of Wenlock, due unto Richard Modlicott, while RA5 [16 cent.?] contains a particular of all the lands belonging to the monastery of Wenlock. Collectors: Thomas Butler, vicar of Wenlock, 1643, Thomas Greene and Samuel Littlehales 1716-1718, Randle Jones, 1729-1738, John Croft, 1744-17767, and John Jones 1768-1771.

Manor of Valle Crucis and Wrexham Abbot

Property in p's Wrexham, Ruabon, Llangollen, Llandysilio-yn-Iâl, Llansanffraid Glyn Ceiriog, Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, co. Denb., is from R9/8 (1702) onwards combined with property on Llantysilio Commons, Bryneglwys Commons, Llanarmon Commons, the late lands of Nathaniel Williams in t. Wrexham Abbot, the late lands of Elias Price purchased in 1702 in t. Wrexham Abbot, and Oernant Slate Quarries. From R27/9 (1744) onwards property in p's Ruthyn, Llanfrothen is added. This had formerly been included in the Glasinfryn Collection. However, Llanfrothen is omitted from R29/9, R30/12, R40/6. It has been incorporated in R29/5 (1748), R29/6 (1748), R29/13b (1749), R29/13c (1749), R30/6 (1750), R30/9(1751), R40/11 (1772). R21/6 (1721) includes election bills. L1291 (1663), L1286b (1664) indicate that at that date the manors belonged to the Rt Hon. Baptist, Viscount Campden. Collectors: John Edwards (1702-1711), Randle Jones (1713-1748), Thomas Jones (1748-1770), Randle Jones (1772). Post 1772, property in co. Denb. is contained in Collection II and property in p. Llanfrothen in Collection I.

Glasinfryn and Gwydir estates

The Glasinfryn estate comprised property in p's Llanfechell and [Llangwyllog] (hamlet of Tresgawen), co. Ang, and in p's Conwy (t. Y Gyffin), Treflys, Pwllheli, Clynnog and Llanberis, co. Caern. R8/1 (1678) and R8/6 (1680) contain the Glasinfryn estate only. From 1683 (L1301) it is combined with property which formed part of the Gwydir estate, in p's [Waunfawr formerly Llanbeblig] (t. Treflan), Llanfair-is-gaer, Llandeiniolen, Llanrug and Bangor, and Caernarfon town, all co. Caern, p. Llysfaen in co. Denb., and p. Llanfrothen in co. Mer. From 1691 (R8/9) property in [p. Conway] (t. Y Gyffin) purchased from William Robinson, esq. is added. From 1684 (L1301) to 1737 (R24/6) one property in Ruthin is added. From 1697 (R9/6a) property in co. Ang. is omitted. In 1741 (R26/1) p. Llanfrothen is transferred to the manor of Valle Crucis collection. Rhiwgoch estate and other properties in co's Mer. and Denb.

This series of rentals combines: (1) property on the Rhiwgoch estate, acquired by Henry Wynn through his marriage with Catherine, heiress of Ellis Lloyd of Rhiwgoch, namely property in p's Trawsfynydd, Dolgellau, [Llanddwywe] (t. Is-y-graig) and Llanfair-juxta-Harlech, co. Mer.; and (2) property which had formed part of the Wynn estate in cos Mer. and Denb., namely property in p. Llandderfel in Penllyn hundred, and p's Llandrillo-yn-Edeirnion, Corwen (Ddwyryd) and Betws in Edeirnion hundred, all co. Mer., and p. Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr (t. Llysan), co. Denb. R7 (1669-1673) contains property in Trawsfynydd, Dolgellau, Llanfair-juxta-Harlech, and Abermouth only. From L1301/5 (1688) to R9/6e (1701), only property in Corwen (Ddwyryd), Betws, Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr (t. Llysan), Llanfor and Llandrillo is included, except for R8/6 (1680) which only includes property in Llanfor and Llandrillo. Collectors: Evan Lloyd 1669-73, Griffith Roberts 1707-1718, Randle Jones 1725-1751, John Evans 1728, Thomas Jones 1752-1772. From R11/8 (1707) the Rhiwgoch estate is resumed. R17/16 (1728) omits p. Carno collection

The collection comprises property in p's Trefeglwys, Carno, Llanwnnog, Penegoes, Llanbryn-mair, and Aberbygan [?t. Aberbechan in p. Llanllwchaearn], all co. Mont. R6/2 (1714-1715) includes land tax in Tir y Mynech in p. Llanbryn-mair, and in Carno collections for 1712. R6/9 (1714-1715) includes land tax for Carno and Llanbryn-mair collections for 1713 and 1714. The collection comprises property in p's Penystrywaid, Llandinam (t's Maes-mawr, Trewyddan, Gwerneirin, Carnedd, Hengynwydd, Deddenydd), Carno, Llanwnnog (t's Surnant, Wig and Ystradfaelog, Esgob, Caer-sws), Trefeglwys (t's Bodaeoch, Mastregymer, Dolgwden, Glyntrefnant), Llanidloes (t's Brithdir, Glynhafren Iscoed, Treflyn and Rhydfaes, Cefncroesllwybr, Morfodion, Cilmachallt, Cefn Penarth, Ystradhunod), Llanidloes Town, Llangurig (t's Cefn (yr) hafodau, Llanifyny, Glyngynwydd, Glynhafren Uwchcoed, Glynbrochan); and the Berthllwyd estate in p's [Trefeglwys] (t's Maestregymer, Glyntrefnant), [Llanwnnog] (t's Surnant, Esgob, Uwchlaw'r Coed), Penystrywaid, Llandinam (t's Deddenydd, Maes-mawr) and Llangurig (t. Lordship of Cynllaith Owain chief rents

The collection comprises property in p's Llansilin (t's Lloran, Moelfre, Estynallan, Priddbwll, Sycharth, Rhiwlas) and [Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog] (t. Llywarch), all in co. Denb. Collectors: John Humphreys, 1719, Peter Lloyd, 1725-1726, Randle Jones, 1736-1738, and Thomas Jones, 1739-1772. For the continuation of this collection post-1772, see Collection IV.

Stanwardine collection

Property in Stanwardine, [p. Baschurch], co. Shrop., and p. Holt, co. Denb. From R10/1 (1707) onwards, property in p's Wrexham and Broughton is added; from R10/9 (1712) onwards, property in p. Is-y-Coed, previously contained in the Wynnstay Home Rents Collection, is also added. R9/6a and R9/6b contain property in Holt only. Maenan lordship and other properties in co's Caern and Denb.

Maenan lordship, co. Caern, and properties in p's Eglwys-bach and Llangernyw, co. Denb., are combined from 1683 (L1301) with property in p's Llansanffraid Glan Conwy and Betws Abergele, co. Denb., and p. Penmachno, co. Caern. Property purchased from William Robinson, esq., in p's Llansanffraid Glan Conwy and Llandrillo-yn-Rhos (t. Eirias) is added in 1691 (R8/9). A property in Wrexham is also added from 1684 (L1301) to 1691 (R8/9). R3/5 (1629), R6/7 (1671), R4/7 (1671) and R4/9 (1680) contain property in Commote of Isaf. Collectors: John Jones, 1675-1701, Edward Lloyd, 1710-1752, William Owen, 1759-1769, William Griffith, 1770-1771. For continuation of this property post-1772 see Collection V.

Chwaen Isaf estate

This is the ancestral estate of the Williamses of Chwaen Isaf, co. Ang., inherited by Sir William Williams (d. 1700). It comprised property in p's Llantrisant, Llanfihangel [Tre'r Beirdd?], Llechylched, Llanfaelog, Trewalchmai, Llanrhuddlad, Llaneilian, Llandrygarn, Llangristiolus, Llandysilio, Penmynydd, Pentraeth, Beaumaris, Llanwenllwyfo, Amlwch and Llan-faes, all in co. Ang. The estate disappears from the rentals after 1692.

Plas-y-ward estate

The estate originally comprised property p's Llanynys (t's Maesmaencymro, Gyffeilliog), Llanfwrog (t. Bodangharad), Ruthin, Llanbedr Dyffryn Clwyd, Bodfari (t. Aberchwiler), Llandyrnog, Llanhychan, Llangwm in commote of Dinmael, the lordship of Llwynydd and Rhisgog, all in co. Denb. In 1697, property in p's Derwen, Llanelidan and Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd, co. Denb., and p. Llandrillo-yn-Edeirnion (t's Garthiaen, Branas Isaf), co. Mer., is added. In 1701, property in p's Penmorfa, Beddgelert, Dolwyddelan, Capel Curig, Penmachno, Llanberis, Dwygyfylchi and Llanfairfechan, co. Caern., is also added. Sir William Williams bought the Glantant estate in 1679, and it appears in the Glascoed collection in 1680. The Plas-y-ward estate is combined with the Glascoed collection, 1704-1715 (R12-R13). From 1712 (R13) property in p. Llanynys (t's Trefechan, Ysgeibion) and [p. Llanrhaeadr-yng-Nghinmeirch] (t. Pentrellech) is added. RA8 (1653) contains property in p. Oswestry (t's Trefonnen, Treflach), Shropshire. R4/8 contains an inventory of the goods and chattels of Edward Thelwall of Plasyward, co. Denb., esq., appraised in Jan. 1677. Collector: Matthew Jones, 1689 [1715?].

Gwydir estate

The Gwydir estate proper did not become part of the Wynnstay estate, but passed to the Dukes of Ancaster through the marriage of Robert, Lord Willoughby of Eresby, duke of Ancaster, and Mary, sole daughter and heiress of Sir Richard Wynn, 4th bart (dec. 1674). However, a rental for 1680 of the Gwydir estate and two rentals for 1671 of Gwydir property in co. Mer. are found amongst the general rentals of the Wynnstay estate. The rentals comprise property in p's [Aber] (t. Y Wig), Betws-y-coed and Llandudno, co. Caern; p's Llanrwst, Llanddoged, Gwytherin, Llanfair Talhaearn, Llaneilian-yn-Rhos, Llansanffraid Glan Conwy, Llanrhaeadr-yng-Nghinmeirch and Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr, co. Denb.; p's Llangar, Llandrillo-yn-Edeirnion, Gwyddelwern, Llanfor and Llandderfel, co. Mer.; and p's Isleworth, Heston, co. Mddx. L1311 (1671) contains only property in p's Llandderfel and Llandrillo-yn-Edeirnion, co. Mer. R4/6 (1671) contains only property in p's Llandderfel, Gwyddelwern, Llangar and Llanfor, co. Mer. Wynnstay home rents

Property in p's Ruabon (t's Dinhinlle, Cristionydd), Marchwiail, Erbistock (Eyton Park), Holt and Is-y-coed, co. Denb. Collectors: Mr Stowing (1693-1694), Thomas Wattall (1694), John Jones (1695-1706), Robert Simon (1715-1723), Thomas Jones (1732-1770) and Randle Jones (1772). From R5/8 (1700) onwards p. Ruabon (t. Morton Wallicorum) is added. From R5/11 (1702) onwards p. Wrexham is added. It had been incorporated previously in R9/6a-e (1697-1701) and R9/7 (1700). From R5/1 (1709) onwards p. Is-y-Coed is omitted. It is incorporated from R10/9 (1712) onwards in the Stanwardine Collection. From R11/6 (1718) onwards p. Holt is omitted.
