The translation of Thierry's History of the Normans in England is just out - he is on the watch for an opportunity to send it to the addressee. He read the addressee's letter in this morning's paper with great pleasure and satisfaction - his own views on the subject (Welsh Bishops). The promised 'History of Glamorgan'.

Henry M. Stanley letter,

An autograph letter, 22 August 1872, from journalist and explorer Henry M[orton] Stanley, London, to Charles Ollivant, Sale, Cheshire, refuting the (correct) claim made in the Rhyl Journal that Stanley was not an American but rather a Welshman named John Rowlands (f. 19).
Also included is a newspaper cutting, from the Manchester Examiner and Times, 27 August 1872, printing the contents both of Stanley's letter and a covering letter by Ollivant, dated 24 August 1872 (f. 20). Copies of the letter were sent by Ollivant to several newspapers, including the Examiner and Times and the Manchester Guardian, and it was printed in these and several others over the following days.

Sending extracts which he copied while at Downing this morning from 'A catalogue of the British saints and such others whose memories are most celebrated in Wales, by the dedication of churches to their names.' He has a curious MS also called the 'Pentarchia' by Powell of Edenhope. The addressee's Achau'r Saint.

He can do nothing that will enable him to make up the money without the addressee's kind assistance; begging him to come to Cowbridge immediately. He has found the copy of a letter to Mr Thomas Williams, dated May 21 1808, proving that he (TW) had received the year's rent (£12) up to the first of that month. On the dorse are details of some ?pamphlets on the work of civilizing American Indians.
