Records of the Welsh estate of the Crosse family of Shaw Hill, Lancashire, comprising records of the Thelwall family of Nantclwyd, Bathafarn Park and Plas Coch, Denbighshire, and of the associated families of Parry of Nantclwyd and Ruthin, Gethin of Cernioge, and Kenrick of Woore, Shropshire, London, and Chester, all of whose estates the Crosse family appears to have acquired. The archive includes Civil War papers, 1642-1644, illustrating some of the activities of the sheriff of Denbighshire- John Thelwall of Plas Coch- and of the Commissioners of Array between November 1642, and April 1644, letters, mainly 17-18 cent., and deeds and miscellaneous documents, 1441-1796, relating mainly to Parry and Thelwall estates in Denbighshire.

Estate and family records of the Vaughan family of Crosswood (Trawscoed), Cardiganshire, later the earls of Lisburne, including deeds, 1527-1940, for lands mainly in northern Cardiganshire, but including also in Devon, Middlesex, Durham, and Northumberland; rentals, 1661-1947, (which run with many gaps), including rentals for Cwmnewidion estate; manorial records, [c. 1560]-1900, including Anhuniog, Blaenaeron, Cwmystwyth, Cwrt, Hafodwen, Mefenydd, Morfa-mawr, Pennardd, and Ysbyty Ystrad Meurig, all in Cardiganshire; lead mining records in north Cardiganshire, [1771], 1839-1930; and Crosswood Hospital papers, 1939-1945.

Collectively called the Crosswood Manuscripts after their Montgomeryshire home, this collection consists of three groups of manuscripts known as the Walter Davies (Gwallter Mechain) Manuscripts, the John Jenkins (Ifor Ceri) Manuscripts, and the Frances Althea Trevor Manuscripts.
