Llansilin (Sychdyn) , title deeds,

Title deeds for properties lying in the township of Soughton or Sychdyn in the Shropshire portion of the parish of Llansilin, and consistently listed with the Oswestry estates in the Wynnstay rentals. Expired tenancy agreements and associated papers, Merioneth estate,

Bundles, which may be original, of numbered and unnumbered expired tenancy agreements of the Merioneth estate, predominantly Glan-llyn, for properties situated mainly in Bala, Llandderfel, Llanfor, Llangywer, Llanuwchllyn, Llanycil and Trawsfynydd, and associated papers. There are 10 files of numbered expired tenancy agreements nos. 1386-1689 (with gaps) dated 1841-1936; expired unnumbered tenancy agreements, Mallwyd, 1839-1854; tenancy agreements relating to the trust of Llanuwchllyn almshouses, 1858-1880; notices to quit tenancies, 1867-1876; expired boat agreements, Bala, 1873-1903; and sporting leases, 1873-1926.

Sir Watkin Williams Wynn, 6th bart, died on 9 May 1885, and from 1885 (R141/1a) onwards, the properties in the preceding series are arranged as follows: (i) The estates of which Lady Williams Wynn is seised for life with remainder in tail male, consisting of property in Oswestry, Bishop's Castle, Wrexham, Gresford, Ruabon, Bangor Is-coed, Tilston, Holt, Llangollen, Llandysilio-yn-Iâl, Llanarmon-yn-Iâl, Llandegla, Llangedwyn, Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, Llansilin, Llansanffraid-ym-Mechain and Pennant [i.e. Llangedwyn estate]. (ii) The estates of which Sir Herbert Lloyd Watkin Williams-Wynn is seised for life with remainder in tail male, consisting of property in Erbistock, Bangor Is-coed, Ruabon, Wrexham, Gresford, Marchwiail, Overton, Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd, Llanfwrog, Llanbedr Dyffryn Clwyd, Llanynys, Ruthin, Llanhychan, Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, Llanfyllin, Hirnant, Pennant, Llanwddyn, Llanfihangel-yng-Ngwynfa, Llangadfan, Llanfair Caereinion, Llanerfyl, Garthbeibio, Cemais, Llanwrin, Machynlleth, Penegoes, Darowen, Llanbryn-mair, Carno, Trefeglwys, Llanidloes, Llangurig, Llanbadarn, and the Glan-llyn estate, consisting of property in Pennal, Llanfor, Llanycil, Llanuwchllyn, Llangower and Trawsfynydd, and details re boats on Bala lake [i.e. Wynnstay and Ruthin estate, Llwydiarth estate, Cyfeiliog/Llanbryn-mair estate, and the Glan-llyn estate]. From 1890 (R145/1a) onwards, property in p. Llanfihangel-y-Creuddyn, co. Card., is included. The rentals for 1897 and 1898 (R152/1a and R153/1a) contain only the estates of which Sir Herbert Lloyd Watkin Williams is seised for life with remainder in tail male, together with property in p. Llangollen, co. Denb.

'Rental, freehold property'

A single, separate volume containing a rental which includes tenants from the following places: p's Wrexham, Ruabon, Llangollen, Erbistock, Gwersyllt, Marchwiail, Bryneglwys, Holt, Llandysilio[-yn-Iâl] and Llanarmon [-yn-Iâl], co. Denb., and p's Bangor Is-coed and Overton, co. Flint. Collectors: D. Parry, 1813, and E. Pickering 1814-1821.

Pardons,

Pardons by Elizabeth I, James I, Charles I, Charles II, and the peers who had jurisdiction in the lordships of Oswestry and Ruthin, issued to David Lloit ap M’ed, Edward Eyton and Gruffith Kyffin, 1458-1626; to Richard Wynn and various other individuals in Caernarfonshire, 1604-1690; to members of the Thelwall family of Plas y Ward, 1486-1626; and to the Vaughan family of Llwydiarth, 1584, [1625x1649].

Arbitration awards,

Arbitration awards, bonds to abide by arbitrators’ and other related papers. Two files relate to disputes of miscellaneous individuals in Shropshire, 1449-1565, and in North Wales, 1517-1604. The rest derive from disputes of specific families and individuals, namely the Thelwall family of Plas y Ward, [1476]-1598; Owen ap Ieuan ap David in Merioneth, 1517-1543; David ap John ap Tuder in Anglesey, 1532-1535; William ap Gruffith ap Gwillim and family of Glyn Gronant and Castell, 1533-1569; and the Wynn family [of Gwydir], 1612-1710.

A near-complete series of extracts of presentments, with fines and amercements made at the court leet, view of frankpledge and court baron of Sir Watkin Williams Wynn in Much Wenlock, 1786-1792, 1793-1799, 1800-1810, 1811-1825, 1826-1837, 1838-1849, 1850-1857.

Glasinfryn and Gwydir estates

The Glasinfryn estate comprised property in p's Llanfechell and [Llangwyllog] (hamlet of Tresgawen), co. Ang, and in p's Conwy (t. Y Gyffin), Treflys, Pwllheli, Clynnog and Llanberis, co. Caern. R8/1 (1678) and R8/6 (1680) contain the Glasinfryn estate only. From 1683 (L1301) it is combined with property which formed part of the Gwydir estate, in p's [Waunfawr formerly Llanbeblig] (t. Treflan), Llanfair-is-gaer, Llandeiniolen, Llanrug and Bangor, and Caernarfon town, all co. Caern, p. Llysfaen in co. Denb., and p. Llanfrothen in co. Mer. From 1691 (R8/9) property in [p. Conway] (t. Y Gyffin) purchased from William Robinson, esq. is added. From 1684 (L1301) to 1737 (R24/6) one property in Ruthin is added. From 1697 (R9/6a) property in co. Ang. is omitted. In 1741 (R26/1) p. Llanfrothen is transferred to the manor of Valle Crucis collection. Glascoed and Llanforda estates

The Glascoed estate was acquired by Sir William Williams (d. 1700) through his marriage with Margaret, daughter and coheiress of Watkin Kyffin of Glascoed, and the Llanforda estate was purchased by Sir William from Edward Lloyd of Llanforda in 1676. They comprise property in p's Llansilin (t's Moelfre, Bodlith, Priddbwll, Lloran, Sycharth, Lledrod, Estynallan, Rhiwlas), Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, [Llangadwaladr] (t. Tregeiriog), Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant (t's Henfachau, Prys Fechan), [Glyntraean formerly part of Llangollen] (t's Grogeniddon, Hafodgynfor), [Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog] (t. Llywarch), [Llangollen] (t. Dinbren), [Ruabon] (t. Cristionydd Fechan), Llanynys and Derwen, all co. Denb. The following property has been added at various times:.
