Owen Williams Collection

A letter, 1920, to J. Lloyd Williams, from John Griffith, Dolgellau, enclosing the tune book of Owen Williams, bearing the date 'Jany 17. 1808' and containing numerous folk tunes. Other papers containing miscellaneous hymn and folk tunes are enclosed, together with a letter, [?1887/1857], addressed to Mr Griffith Price, Llanfihangel-y-Pennant, apparently from his uncle, William ab Gruffudd, Plas Llanwnda.

Photographs of Joseph Parry (mistakenly identified as Pencerdd Gwalia on the back of the photograph), Edith Wynne and three unidentified individuals; together with the publicity leaflets of Mme. Laura Evans-Williams.

Plays

Typescripts of, and material relating to, a play entitled 'Y Deffro'; an operetta entitled 'Cawl Cymysg'; and the manuscript of the first scene of a play, 'Hwsmon Plas-y-Nant'; all apparently by J. Lloyd Williams. An untitled morality play in his hand is also included, together with a press cutting of his adjudication in a drama competition at Holyhead, 1927.

Publication of Journal, 1940-1943

Correspondence between J. Lloyd Williams and others relating to the publication of the Welsh Folk-Song Society Journal, [?1940]-1943. The correspondents include R. Humphrey Davies, Dora Herbert Jones, Ruth Lewis and W. S. Gwynn Williams. A carbon copy of the editor's report, July 1943, is also included.

Publication of Y Cerddor

Correspondence, 1915-1945, relating to the work of the National Council of Music, Cymdeithas Caredigion Cerdd (founded 1930) and, in particular, to the publication of Y Cerddor. The correspondence mainly reflects J. Lloyd Williams's contribution as editor of the Journal and his involvement with the National Council of Music. The correspondents include E. T. Davies, Sir Walford Davies, T. Hopkin Evans, John Griffith (co-editor with J. Lloyd Williams of Y Cerddor, 1930-1933), E. J. Grutchfield, Hughes & Son, J. Chas. MacLean, Jennie Williams and John Jones ('Ioan Brothen'). Copies of letters from J. Lloyd Williams are also included.

R. E. Vaughan Roberts Collection

Folk songs, with annotations, collected mainly in the Bala area by R. E. Vaughan Roberts. The songs were published in Phyllis Kinney, 'Songs of R. E. Vaughan Roberts', Canu Gwerin / Folk Song, 19 (1996).
