Wills, letters of administration and other documents associated with probate belonging to the familes of Vaughan of Llwydiarth and Llangedwyn, 1584-1718, a further copy of Edward Vaughan’s will, 1717-1718; Thelwall of Plas y Ward, 1599-1733; and Kyffin of Glascoed, 1633-[c. 1653].

The estate comprises property in p's Wrexham, Llanrhaeadr-yng-Nghinmeirch, ?Llangwyfan, [Llansilin] (t. Sycharth), and [Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant] (t. Cefn-coch), all in co. Denb., and in p. The estate comprises property in p's Ruabon, Llangedwyn, Llanfihangel-yng-Ngwynfa, Llansilin and Wrexham, co. Denb, in p's Llangurig, Llanbryn-mair and Pennant, co. 'Rental, freehold property'

A single, separate volume containing a rental which includes tenants from the following places: p's Wrexham, Ruabon, Llangollen, Erbistock, Gwersyllt, Marchwiail, Bryneglwys, Holt, Llandysilio[-yn-Iâl] and Llanarmon [-yn-Iâl], co. Denb., and p's Bangor Is-coed and Overton, co. Flint. Collectors: D. Parry, 1813, and E. Pickering 1814-1821.

'Rents for sporting'

The collection comprises lands in the manors of Cyfeiliog and Arwystli, and in p. Trawsfynydd, co. Mer. Lands in p. Llangurig, co. Mont., are mentioned from 1886 (R141/1c) onwards. Lands in p. Llangywer, co. Mer., mentioned from 1892 (R147/1c) onwards. Lands in p's Llangollen, Llandegla, Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd, Ruthin, and Llandysilio [yn-Iâl], co. Denb., and in p. Llanbryn-mair, co. Mont., and part of the Llwydiarth estate, contained in one or more of the volumes from 1894 (R149) onwards. Collector: Owen Hughes, 1874-1880. Rhiwgoch estate and other properties in co's Mer. and Denb.

This series of rentals combines: (1) property on the Rhiwgoch estate, acquired by Henry Wynn through his marriage with Catherine, heiress of Ellis Lloyd of Rhiwgoch, namely property in p's Trawsfynydd, Dolgellau, [Llanddwywe] (t. Is-y-graig) and Llanfair-juxta-Harlech, co. Mer.; and (2) property which had formed part of the Wynn estate in cos Mer. and Denb., namely property in p. Llandderfel in Penllyn hundred, and p's Llandrillo-yn-Edeirnion, Corwen (Ddwyryd) and Betws in Edeirnion hundred, all co. Mer., and p. Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr (t. Llysan), co. Denb. R7 (1669-1673) contains property in Trawsfynydd, Dolgellau, Llanfair-juxta-Harlech, and Abermouth only. From L1301/5 (1688) to R9/6e (1701), only property in Corwen (Ddwyryd), Betws, Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr (t. Llysan), Llanfor and Llandrillo is included, except for R8/6 (1680) which only includes property in Llanfor and Llandrillo. Collectors: Evan Lloyd 1669-73, Griffith Roberts 1707-1718, Randle Jones 1725-1751, John Evans 1728, Thomas Jones 1752-1772. From R11/8 (1707) the Rhiwgoch estate is resumed. R17/16 (1728) omits p. Title deeds relating to properties in the parish of Ruabon, namely Llwyn [?], Tyddyn yn y Kevyn, etc., Cristionydd Cynrig, 1435-1511; miscellaneous properties in Ruabon, 1465-1621; miscellaneous properties in Dinhinlle, 1518-1621, 1691-1794; Ty yn Pen yr Allt and Cae Howell Voyle, etc., Morton Wallicorum, 1624-1812; miscellaneous properties in Ruabon, 1641-1859; lands of Edward ap David, Cristionydd Cynrig, 1655-1667; Bryn Llywenydd, Dinhinlle Isaf, 1679-[c.1775]; a smithy conversion, Ruabon, 1707-1754; Plas Kynaston estate, 1711-1851; miscellaneous properties in Cristionydd Cynrig, 1718-1815; messuages and two meadows, Ruabon, 1723-1787; Belan, 1727-1755; Trefechan, Dinhinlle and Cristionydd Cynrig, Cefn y Fedw and Hafod, 1728-1858; and Bodylltyn leases, 1779-1782. Some of the properties belonged to the Watstay estate of the Eyton family and Sir John Wynn, but several more were acquired in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries to expand the Wynnstay home estate.

Schedules and abstracts of deeds,

Volumes containing original schedules of deeds compiled by the estate in 1710-1822, 1740-1789, 1770, and 1817, together with loose schedules and abstracts of deeds, [early 17th cent]-[c. 1910]. The original volumes list family settlements, wills and title deeds for estates gained though inheritance, marriage or purchase, although the order of the contents changes according to the cataloguing system adopted by the estate at the time. The total date range of deeds described in these schedules covers 1185-1910.

Settled Land Acts estate improvement applications

Papers relating to applications between 1887 and 1905 by Sir Herbert Lloyd Watkin Williams Wynn, Lady Louise Alexandra Williams Wynn and the trustees of the Wynnstay settlement of 1884, under the provisions of the Settled Land Acts, 1882-1890, for improvements on the Glan-llyn estate in the parish of Llanuwchllyn, Merioneth, Llwynymaen and Llanforda near Oswestry, Salop, the Llangedwyn estate in Llansilin, Llangedwyn, Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant and Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, Denbighshire, the Llanbryn-mair and Cyfeiliog estate, Montgomeryshire, and parts of the main Wynnstay estate in Bangor Is-coed and Wrexham. Typically the file contents comprise official application forms for the approval by the Board of Agriculture of a surveyor or engineer nominated by the Wynnstay trustees, orders issued by the High Court of Justice Chancery Division, building estimates, specifications, surveyors’ reports and certificates, accounts, agents’ receipts and relevant correspondence. Some files contain plans and elevations.

Title deeds for properties in the town and parish of Shrewsbury, in Castle Foregate, Meryvans Street, Corvisers’ Row, High Street, 1564-1680; St Chad, 1564-1778; Frankwell, 1578-1727; Whitley Hall, Benthall and Allesley estates, 1583-1773; Barker Street and Knockin Street, 1597-1674; Clarimond Hill, 1602, 1762; Fish Street alias Milk Street, 1603-1792; miscellaneous properties in Shrewsbury, 1604-1791; Coleham, Sturreyes Close, Abbey Foregate, etc., 1618-1692; a shop in High Street and stable in Rowshill Lane, 1629-1761; properties of the Nicolls family in St Mary and St Chad, 1634-1745; Abbey Foregate, 1730-1744; shops adjoining the guild hall, St Chad, 1748-1755; and Wyle Cop, 1762-1767. The deeds are highly informative for street names, inhabitants and buildings which have since been altered or demolished. Some of the deeds, at least, may have derived from the Purcell estate or the Mytton estate (see Wynnstay rental RA38).
