Research notes

The file consists of miscellaneous manuscript and typescript research notes and drafts of writings, c.1930-c. 1950, by Goronwy Roberts.

Letters to Goronwy and Marian Roberts

The series comprises letters addressed to Goronwy O. Roberts, 1928-1981, together with a small number of letters, 1981-1995, addressed to Mrs Marian Roberts, later Lady Goronwy-Roberts. They are interspersed with a few drafts and copies of letters prepared by Goronwy Roberts in reply to the letters received. Many of the letters reflect Roberts's political career and the history of the Labour Party. Others relate to the wide range of his cultural and literary interests. A few are invitations to deliver speeches and lectures.

Constituency correspondence and papers

The series comprises correspondence and papers, 1946-1974, relating to Goronwy O. Roberts's work as Labour Member of Parliament for Caernarfonshire. They include letters from constituents asking for assistance and advice and drawing attention to problems and difficulties in the constituency, responses from government departments and ministries, letters concerning local events and activities, letters from organisations and societies within the county, and correspondence deriving from local government matters. The constituency correspondence is especially revealing in so far as it reflects local expectations from the Labour governments, 1945-1951, and later administrations.
