A volume of transcripts of poetry by Dafydd ap Gwilym, together with a few 'englynion' and 'cywyddau' by Wm Morris, G[ruffudd] Grug, Dafydd ap Edmund, Rhys Gôch Glan Ceiriog, Dafydd Nanmor, Iolo Goch, R[obin] Ddu, and some anonymous 'englynion'. The transcripts are taken from UCNW Bangor MS 6. A note by Mary Richards, Darowen on p. 1 ascribes the volume to John William[s], musician ('Cyfansoddwr Tona'), Dolgelley, probably John Williams ('Ioan Rhagfyr') (see Thomas Parry (gol.): Gwaith Dafydd ap Gwilym (Caerdydd, 1952) pp. c1xviii-clxix). At the end of the volume is a table entitled 'Rhannau Monwent Dar-Owen megis y dosparthwyd ag y cyweiriwyd hwynt ar eiriol David Davies vicar yno, gan ddechrau, o barth dwyrain Ty'r Vicar ag felly diwygio oddi amgylch Mai yr 28 1636' (' ... carefully transcribed out of the original by me Lewis Jones Vicar of Darowen' - a Chopiwyd genyf inneu or Terrier Darowen. M. R. Dar[owen]'). Tipped into the volume are a bond, 14 February 1690/1, from David Jones of Cowarch, Merionethshire, gent. to John Thomas Rees of the same, yeoman for the observance of covenants, and a poem in free metre entitled 'Myfyrdod y Parchedig Mr [Roderick] Lewis Periglor Llanbrynmair Uwchben Bedd ei ddiweddar Wraig', 1829. Among a number of items laid on the inside lower cover is Ychydig o gynghorion buddiol i Bobl Ieuainc, Wrth fyned i wasanaeth (Treffynnon, n.d.).

An imperfect and badly mutilated volume containing sermons, some of which are transcribed from Edward James: Pregethau a osodwyd allan trwy awdurdod i'w darllein vmhob Eglwys blwyf ... (Llundain, 1606); proverbial sayings, triads and short tabular texts, many probably extracted from Robert Lloyd: Llwybr hyffordd yn cyfarwyddo yr anghyfarwydd i'r Nefoedd (Llundain, 1630) e.g. 'Wyth o arwyddion ansomedig o Iechydwrieth', '... arwyddion o ddamnadigaeth [sic] .... naw arwydd ... o golledigaeth dyn', 'Achosion seguryd ...', 'Naw o fariav i gav allan or nefoedd a naw porth i fyned i vffern', 'Naw ystyrieth buddiol', 'Geiriau gwir Taliesn [sic]', 'Attebion y seithwyr doethion yw gilydd ... ', '12 pwnc cas gyn dduw ar neb ai gwnelo', 'Pedwar peth a ddyle pob dyn i myfyrio ...', 'Naw arwydd o enaid holliach', 'Wyth arwydd St Peter o Iechvdwrieth', 'Saith o arwyddion difregusaf ag ansomedigaf [sic]', 'chwe pheth sydd gas gyn yr Arglwydd... A volume of 'cywyddau', etc. transcribed by W[illiam] H[enry] Mounsey in 1859 from manuscripts in the British Museum ('Barddoniaeth sef Casgliad O Waith Beirdd Cymru. Tynwyd allan y Casgiad hwn O Ysgriflyfrau yn yr Amgueddfa Brydeinig Genyf fi, Wiliam Henri Mounsey O Gaerliwelyd [sic] yn Sir Cwmberland. 1859'), together with annotations by D. Silvan Evans. The poets represented are Iolo Goch, Llywelyn Moel y Pantri, Gruffydd Gryg, Iorwerth Cyriog, Gutto'r Glyn, Iorwerth Vynglwyd, Lewis Morganwg, Sefnyn, Sippyn Cyfeiliog, Syr D[afydd] Trefor, Robin Ddu ('hynaf, o Fôn'), Rhys Goch Eryri, Doctor Sion Cent, Rhys Brydydd, Llawdden, Dafydd Nanmor, Dafydd ap Edmwnt, Guttyn Owain, Deio ap Ieuan Du, Llewelyn ap Guttyn, Gruffydd Hiraethog, William Cynwal, Sion Tudur, William Lleyn, Morus Kyffin, Mredydd ap Rhys, Robert Dai Llwyd and Sion Gruffudd ('o Llanddyfnan'). Among the illustrations and cut-outs mounted on the fly-leaves and in blank spaces in the manuscript are engravings of Montgomery Castle, the Fall of the Ogwen, Conway Tubular Bridge and Castle, Llyn Idwall, Rhaiadr Du near Tan y Bwlch, Moel y Gest, Denbigh, Snowden [sic] and Llanberis Lake, Valle Cruces Abbey and Pont Aberglaslyn. The spine is lettered 'Casgliad o Waith Beirdd Cymru. W. H. Mounsey. 1859'.

A volume in the hand of D. Silvan Evans containing 'awdlau' and 'cywyddau' by Wiliam Lleyn. The transcripts were made c. 1869 and appear to be taken from more than one source, e.g. a manuscript of Paul Panton, 1779, and a manuscript of W. H. Mounsey based on a manuscript in the hand of [Owen Jones] 'Owen Myfyr'. At the end are 'Tri o'r Chwe Englyn a ddywedir i Ddafydd ab Gwilym wneuthur ar ei Glaf-wely' transcribed by D. Silvan Evans from a manuscript in the hand of ?D[avid] Ellis [Cricieth]. Beginning at the end are three pages of notes on 'Matter'.

An imperfect composite volume written in a number of hands but mainly in a late sixteenth century hand. The following note by J. H. Davies is written on one of the upper fly-leaves: 'This MS is supposed to be in the hand of Sion Brwynog (see Cwrtmawr MS 11.493). It was copied by the Rev. David Ellis, then of Amlwch in 1777 and was then perfect. The copy is now MS 11 in my collection'. This supposition cannot be correct since Siôn Brwynog died in 1562 and some of the poems were composed after that date. The hand also differs from that in Peniarth MS 61 which J. Gwenogvryn Evans tentatively attributed to Siôn Brwynog (See also Eurys I. Rowlands 'Llaw dybiedig Siôn Brwynog', Cylchgrawn Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru (The National Library of Wales Journal), Vol. VII, pp. 381-2). The volume contains 'cywyddau' and a few 'awdlau' by Mathew Bromffild, Tudur Aled, Jhon Brwynog, Lewys Mon, Jhon Tudur, Rys Goch Glynn Dyfrdwy, Morys ap Ieuan ap Einion [Morus Dwyfech], Gwilym ap Sefnyn, Gvttor Glynn, Howel Reinalld, Wiliam Llyn, Lewis Daron, Dafydd Pennant, Roger Kyffin, Gwilym ap Ifan Hen, Gvttvn Owain, Cynwig ap Dafydd Goch, Owain ap Ll[ewelyn ap y] Moel, Rys Goch yr Yri (Rys goch ap D'd), Robin Ddv Fardd, Tudur Penllyn, Rys Pennarth, Lewys ap Edwart, Lewys Daron, Lewys Menai, Robert Ifans, Lewys Morgannwg, Owain Waed Ta, Gruff. Among the pastedowns is a voucher to the Reverend David Richards from M. Monk, Chester Courant Office in respect of a Cymmrodorion Society [in Powys] advertisement, 1820-3.

A volume originally used fairly extensively by Thomas Richards, Darowen as a rentroll of tithes set in the parish of Darowen, 1824-31. Beginning at the end, also in the hand of Thomas Richards, are a note from the Shrewsbury Chronicle, 1829, on the 'Rearing of Apple Trees'; medical, veterinary and household recipes; and accounts of receipts and disbursements (tithes, road rates, rents, etc.) of Thomas Richards, 1827-31. The remainder of the volume was used by Mary Richards, circa 1850-4, to record transcripts of a list of books in the library of Thomas Richards, Darowen; letters from Evan Richards to Thomas Richard[s], curate of Eglwys fach, near Dovy furnace, undated (religious meditations, a pocket Bible), Ch. Meyer, Llanrhaiadr [ym Mochnant], to T[homas] Richards, Llangynyw, undated (news of W. Davies ['Gwallter Mechain'], an invitation to the recipient and Arthur [James] John[e]s), Thos Jones, L[eintwar]dine [aft. of Creaton], to Thos. Topham to [ ], 1786 (Mr Stocks's donation); an undated petition by William Davies, late of Cemmes, Llanegrin, Merioneth for a charitable contribution from Price Jones, Cyfronydd (petitioner claims that Cemmes, now in Pryce Jones's possession, was previously the property of his own father John Davies); and Hirnant rent accounts between T[homas] Richards and Captain Gwynne, 1816-18. One of the sources quoted by Mary Richards is a manuscript of Sir Thomas Llwyd, 'Person Cemes, Sir Drefaldwyn'. The outside upper cover is inscribed '1825 Tithe Book'.

A manuscript in the hand of Mary Richards, Darowen containing transcripts of poetry in both strict and free metres, especially 'cywyddau' and 'englynion', by Edward Urien, Gutto'r Glyn, Gruff. Llwyd ap D'd ap Einion, Ifan Tew Brydydd, Griffyth Owen, William Philip, Doctor Sion Kent, Robert Leia, Iolo Coch, Sion Brwynog, Meilyr Brydydd, Gwalchmai ap Meilyr, Hugh Morris, Ieuan Tudur Owen, William Llyn, Owen Gwynedd, Iefan Brydydd Hir, Davidd Nanmor, Tudur Penllyn, Huw Kollwyd [recte Cae Llwyd], Mr. Edmwnd Pris, Sion Cerri, S[y]r Owen ap Gwilim, Hugh Arwystl, D. Rowlands (Carno), Robin Du o Fon, David Wood (Darowen) and Elizabeth David Ellis ('o fowddwy'), and anonymous poems. The volume also contains personal memoranda by the scribe; an incomplete list of contents; an account of a joint dinner by the Gwyneddigion and Cymreigyddion Societies at Highbury to celebrate the birthday of the Prince of Wales, 1812; 'Principal Points of Religion' and extracts from a letter from Dafydd Evan to [ ... Wynn], undated (thoughts on religion, references to Wynn family and William Vaughan). The volume was begun about the year 1808 and completed in 1849, but the personal memoranda have been continued to 1875. Seven of the 'cywyddau' are said to have been transcribed from 'llyfr maesglase' and one 'englyn' from 'hen lyfyr Cadwaladr David'.

A volume originally intended as an arithmetic rule and exercise book but largely used by Mary Richards to record transcripts of fragments of 'Llyma ddeall y Pader Ynghymraeg', ['Breudwyt Pawl Ebostol'], etc., letters from Griffydd Jones (Griffydd Glan Gwynion'), Dolgelle to [Mary] Richards, undated (enclosing a gift of two books) and from Morris Jones ['Meurig Idris'], Dolgellau to the Reverend Thos Richards, Llangynyw, 1845 (a concert at Dolgellau, the double action Cambrian harp) and 'cywyddau' by Gruffydd Hiraethog, Guto'r Glynn, Tudur Aled, William Llyn, Ieuan Tew [Ieuanc], Tudur Penllyn, Huw Kae Llwyd, Llywelyn Goch Amheurig hen, Dafydd Nanmor, Gruffydd Hafren, Syr Owen ap Gwilim, Sion Philip, Bedo Brwynllys, Morys Dwyfech, Dafydd ap Edmwnd, Llowdden, Tomas Penllyn, Meredydd ap Rys and Sion Tudur. On the inside lower cover is an extract beginning 'E Mab Enogi a wnaeth dri ffug Lyfr Ynys Brydain ...' copied from a book of Sir Thomas Llwyd, 'Person Kemes', which later passed into the hands of Angharad Llwyd, Caerwys. Among a number of items pasted on the inside upper cover and fly-leaf is an engraving entitled 'Begging Devotees of China & Jugglers mounted on tame Tigers'.
