A group of poetry and miscellaneous papers from the collection of, and partly in the autograph, of David Griffith (Clwydfardd). They include englynon by Clwydfardd, e.g. 'Ar ymweliad ei rasusolaf Fawrhydi Tywysog Cymru an gwyl Genedlaethol yn Nghaernarfon Gorphenaf [1894]'; 'Ir diweddar barchedig Edward Anwyl Cadeirydd y Dalaith Ogleddol', etc.; englynion addressed to Clwydfardd by Richard Parry (Gwalchmai) and John Cadvan Davies (Cadvan) (1891); copies of the proclamations of meetings of Gorsedd Beirdd Ynys Prydain at national and provincial eisteddfodau; a letter, [c. 1891], from Clwydfardd to B. Morris Lewis, Chelsea, giving particulars of nineteenth century national and other eisteddfodau; notes on the key to 'Coelbren y Beirdd', etc., by T. H. Thomas (Arlunydd Penygarn); incomplete notes on the Epistle to the Hebrews; and an incomplete eulogy of the writing pen, 1872.

The file comprises correspondence, 1930-1932, including letters relating to the music examinations of the Gorsedd of Bards, 1930, and subjects for the music competitions at Bangor National Eisteddfod, 1931. Amongst the correspondents are T. Hopkin Evans and D. Rhys Phillips.

Adjudication by Rowland Williams ('Hwfa Môn') on the poems submitted for competition at the Bethesda 'eisteddfod', 1876, on 'englynion' at the Salem (Bethesda) competitive meeting, 1879, notes of an address on 'Henafiaeth yr Orsedd' at the Llandudno St David's Day Festival, 1896, an ode on the opening of the Chicago International Eisteddfod, 1893, and the order of proceedings at the opening of the national 'eisteddfodau' held at Llanelli, 1895, and Llandudno, 1896.

Letters to Gwilym Cowlyd,

General letters, 1859-1907, to Gwilym Cowlyd interspersed with a few other papers. Many are on literary and poetic themes and some refer to the publication, sale and purchase of various monographs and journals. A number relate to the holding of national and local eisteddfodau, several inviting Gwilym Cowlyd to act as adjudicator. Some concern the publication of his adjudications. Some poets submit their work to Cowlyd for his opinions. Many also contain references to the affairs of Gorsedd Beirdd Ynys Prydain. Many of the letters from 1904 concern the offer made by Gwilym Cowlyd to hand his personal library of books and other materials to the Llanrwst Urban District Council. The correspondents include George Osborne Morgan MP (2), 1878-1885.
