Letters to Stuart Thomas,

Twenty-three letters, copy letters and telegrams, 1953-1975, eighteen of which are to Stuart Thomas of D.O. Thomas & Co., relating mostly to Dylan Thomas's death and funeral arrangements and to Dylan Thomas Trust business.
The correspondents include Graeme [Finlay], November-December 1953 (ff. 1, 19), David Higham, November-December 1953 (ff. 2, 17, 20-23), [Nicolette] Devas, 18 November 1953 (f. 3, telegram), Louis MacNeice, November 1953 (ff. 4, 9), Margaret Taylor, 1 December 1953 (ff. 12-14), Dan[iel Jones], resigning as a trustee, 25 January 1955 (ff. 26-27), and Florence H. Thomas, August 1956 (ff. 28, 30). There are also letters from Oscar Williams to [I. W.] Ungoed-Thomas, 22 November 1953 (f. 8), and Donald A. Kershaw to David Higham, 7 October 1953 (f. 11), and a carbon copy letter from David Higham to Ruthven Todd, 28 December 1953 (ff. 24-25). A letter from Paul [Ferris], 8 September 1975 (f. 32), encloses a Xerox copy, [?1975], of the script for Stuart Thomas' tribute to Dylan Thomas, transmitted on the Home Service as 'Portrait of Dylan Thomas' on 11 December 1953 (ff. 33-47). Also included is a copy, December 1953, of the New York funeral directors' account (f. 16); a copy, 1965, of Dylan Thomas' death certificate (f. 31) and a programme for a production of Under Milk Wood in Swansea in September 1956 (ff. 48-51).

Letters,

Thirty-four unpublished autograph letters and cards, together with a telegram, 1947-1984, from Caitlin Thomas; among the recipients are Paul Ferris, Daniel Jones (with a draft reply by him), Mervyn Levy, Andrew Sinclair, Stuart Thomas, Ruthven Todd, and Gwen and Vernon Watkins. Also included is a handwritten and typescript copy of a letter, dated 16 December 1953, to George Reavey and Irene Rice Pereira, with a photograph of Caitlin and baby Colm; a typescript copy of a letter, 1954, to David [Higham]; and photocopies of two letters, 1951 and 1962, sent to Helen [McAlpine], held at the University of Texas. Personal matters are mainly discussed in these letters, and Caitlin's life and relationship with Dylan Thomas; several letters are written during the months following her husband's death, and some relate to the trial concerning ownership of the manuscript of 'Under Milk Wood'.

[Prologue to an adventure],

Untitled typescript copy, [?1963], (4 pp.), of the beginning of 'Prologue to an adventure', published in Wales, no. 1, (1937), containing ink corrections in an unidentified hand; together with a letter, 1963, from Stuart Thomas to David Higham explaining that this is a copy of a manuscript found behind the drawer of the writing desk at the Boat House.

Printed material, 1966-1969, mostly copies of newspapers and cuttings of articles, reporting the trial concerning ownership of the original manuscript of 'Under Milk Wood', including the judgement in the case (1967) and an Account of an action to recover the original manuscript (1969); together with additional papers, 1962-1966, relating to the trial, among them a copy of a statement, 1962, and preparatory notes by Daniel Jones, and a copy of a letter, 1962, from Ruthven Todd to Stuart Thomas.
