A collection of annotated documents bearing the autographs of Welsh bishops and others. They include a letter testimonial, 1683, from Humphr[ey Lloyd], bishop of Bangor; a holograph letter from W[illiam Fleetwood], bishop of St. Asaph, 1711; warrants, 1722, of A[dam Ottley], bishop of St. Davids, for the payments of dividends due to him upon stock in the South Sea Company's books; an acquittance, 1731, signed by Benj[amin Hoadley], bishop of Salisbury (bishop of Bangor, 1716-21); a decree, 1740, by R[ichard Reynolds], bishop of Lincoln (bishop of Bangor, 1721-3), concerning a University of Oxford fellowship; a holograph letter, undated, from Matt[hias] Mawson (bishop of Llandaff, 1739-40); an acquittance, 1757, signed by John [Thomas], bishop of Salisbury; an acquittance, 1771, signed by Edwd. [Willes], bishop of Bath and Wells (bishop of St. Davids, 1743); a holograph letter from J[ohn Ewer], bishop of Bangor, to Richd. Burn, Westminster, 1772; an acquittance, 1750, signed by J[ohn Gilbert], bishop of Salisbury (bishop of Llandaff, 1740-9); a certificate, 1791, from E[dward Smallwell], bishop of Oxford (bishop of St. Davids, 1783-8), to the treasurer of the Governors of Queen Anne's Bounty relating to the institution of a clerk in South Stoke, Oxfordshire; a certificate, 1795, by W[illiam Stewart], bishop of St. Davids, relating to the perpetual curacy of Talley; and a holograph letter from [George Murray], bishop of St. Davids, 1802; etc.

A letter, 1787, from Edward, second baron Clive of Plassey (afterwards Viscount Clive and first earl of Powis of the second creation) [1754-1839] to his brother-in-law George Edward Henry Arthur, second and last earl of Powis of the first creation [1755-1801]; a letter, 1791, from Thomas Pennant (1726-1798) to Thomas Bewick (1753-1828); a document dated 13 July 1720 and signed by Sir Littleton Powys [1647-1732], one of the Justices of the King's Bench, authorising Ambrose Powys [1692-1753] of Lincoln's Inn to 'subscribe' on his behalf 'into the Capital Stock of The Government and Company of Merchants of Great Britain Trading to the South Seas ...'.

Miles and Edwards, Oxford Street, London, 1843; [Edward Copleston], bishop of Llandaff, 1846 (declining support for a candidate at an election); Fitz Roy James Henry Somerset, 1st baron Raglan, 1853 (declining an invitation to dinner); Richard Henry Fitz Roy Somerset, 2nd baron Raglan, Great Malvern, 1865 (declining an invitation to dine); Lady Henrietta Anna Howard, countess dowager of Carnarvon, to Messrs. Hindley & Sons [1871] (an order for chintz for Pixton Park, Dulverton); Lady Mary Windsor Clive, St. Fagans Castle, Cardiff, to Messrs. Hindley [& Sons], 1872; Lady Elizabeth Herbert [wife of Sidney Herbert, 1st baron Herbert of Lea, P.C.], to Messrs. Hindley [& Sons], 1873; together with a certificate by William Cleaver, bishop of Chester [bishop of Bangor, 1800-06, and of St. Asaph, 1806-15], dated at Oxford, 1792, that John Marshall, clerk, was licensed to the curacy of Leek in Tunstall.

Holograph letters and miscellaneous papers of the families of Morrall of Cilhendre, etc., and Challnor of Plas Yolyn, etc. The writers include Dan. Morhall to his son John Morhall, Holborne Court [London], [16]59 (three houses in Hodnet, personal) (together with a note by John Beeston); E. Parry to John Morrall, 1687 (together with the latter's petition to the King for a grant of the reversion of the office of examiner in the Court of Exchequer in the County Palatine of Chester); D[aniel] Morrall, Portsmouth, to his brother Edward Morrall, Royal Oak in Elsmere, [16]97 (the writer's capture by the French and his enforced enlistment in the Duke of Bolton's regiment); John Aldersey to Edward Morrall, the New Hall at Penley, 1699 (financial transactions with Mr. Dymock and Mr. Jones); Jno. Morrall, London, Rochester, etc., to his brother Edward Morrall, Keelhendrey, 1733-1739 (8) (the writer's deputy purser, the purchase of S[outh] Sea Stock, brother Andrew's maintenance, the writer's illhealth, etc.); John Whitehall, Lincolns Inn, to Edward Morrall, Kilhenry, 1739 (comments on the recipient's arrears and his proposal to purchase a field); Thos. The miscellaneous papers include a bill of complaint of Richd. Pryce, gent., one of the clerks in the office of the pleas of the Court of Exchequer, against Edward Morrall and Thomas Aldersey for the payment of a debt due from John Morrall, deceased, 1698/9; particulars of miscellaneous disbursements, 1739-1741; a computation of the value of the late Mr. Murhall's estate in Dudliston, 1747; and an undated [eighteenth century] notice to beggars that no relief will be given at the door at Plas Yollen, but that any family recommended by creditable neighbours will be relieved, etc.
