Copy of a letter sent on Jumada I 16 1171 [26 January 1758] in reply to a letter received from the East India Company. It was a great joy to have Colonel Clive Sabitjang Bahadur join with me in chasing Siraj al-Daulah, punishing him and then receiving the Diwani of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa. I consider Nawab Sabitjang Bahadaur who has bestowed gifts of a kind which are not available in this country as my own son. I regard our friendship with the Company with great satisfaction and pray for the well-being and strengthening of the power of the Company

As far as other matters are concerned, I will be able to discuss these when we meet in the near future. I left my capital on 22 Safar and am staying in my tent now. Here I will be able to wait for a few days until your arrival. Here we will be able to discuss various issues, including the request of Zubdat al-Tajjar, Mr Scarfton to receive help
P.S. I pay a lot of respect to our friendship and whatever problem I face I always take action after consulting with you

Thank you for your letter informing that you have received news from Azimabad that that the enemies were having some bad thoughts and that Zubdat al-Tajjar / chief trader Mr Watts would be giving me a detailed report on this matter. As a matter of fact this is the first time I have heard of this as Mr Watts had already left for Calcutta before I received your letter. If I hear or receive any bad news from there I will inform you at once and seek your help.

I came to know from a communication from Nawab Nasir al-Mulk Bahadur that on the 8th of this month he went to meet you in the Bagh-i Karhate and cleared up some of the misunderstandings which had been created by our enemies. This has given us a lot of satisfaction and I hope this will bring back the trust we had before and disappoint and disgrace our enemies. Thank you for your letter of love and sincerity and informing that the ill-wishers have opened up communications with you again and trying to create mischief and help the Prince and that you are well aware of their tricks and fully ready to meet any challenge from their side. Before the previous encounter with the Prince, you had sought my advice and I informed you about his ill designs and I was delighted when you and your brave associates were victorious. Now the Prince is intending to bypass the fort of Azimabad and by marching around this region join the forces of Kamgar and then attack our forces. I believe Kamgar is also planning in the same terms
You have sought my advice regarding the way Nawab Nasir al-Mulk Bahadur should come and join me after he had seen you. In this regard I am sure you will know what is best but my sincere advice is that you send him with the support of one thousand European soldiers and two thousand Tilangas. I am day and night engaged in keeping the army happy and arranging for its salaries and for this purpose have given two Lac rupees to Nawab Nasir Mulk Bahadur. I have allocated further sums for this purpose and will be sending it to you in due course
